dull as ditch water!

Your Views seems more popular when Jono is around, Yesterday it was fairly busy but nothing happened today. I think maybe someone should be elected to help keep YV active (keep posting to encourage responses) if Jono is at Uni or wherever.

And TOWDS said that the livechat should happen after they had finished covering breakfast the last time. You should take that up with him ;)

i think nihal and greg visit more than scott does now

and Aled and TOWDS...

I agree with everything above. 'Tis a shame that YV/UM appears to be so dependent on Jono's presence, as fond as I am of him, I wish we could get on without him when he's busy or otherwise occupied.

Problem is I think most people on here are getting stuck into their studies at the moment, and far be it for me to stand in their way.:|

Yeah I get what you mean, it used to be busier in the (g?)olden days. Back when JJ was posting in your views especially.

Sadly these days I am busy busy and am only on here when I'm procrastinating. As enjoyable as Scott's show is, I find it distracting when I have serious work to do, which is a lot of the time now unfortunately, but I do listen when I get the chance.

isn't the phrase supposed to be "dull as dish water"? :D

Possibly. I don't find ditch water particularly exciting myself though, so the phrase works. I can guarantee there'll be a Journal of Ditch Water Research out there and lots of ditch water obsessed academics who get very excited by it. Probably some in my geography department who do actually.

I may have been on the wine at the time of this post...

whats happened to unofficial mills? no one posts much about the show and scott never mentions us. we never did end up with that chat we were going to have either! :( i think nihal and greg visit more than scott does now

in the last two months UM ran out of bandwidth as it had been so popular & maybe it has been moving away from just being about Scott, which i think is a good thing i would rather it be based around the whole of radio-1 & not just one show (what would happen to us if Scott left radio-1 :( )

i don't see why it should be dependent on Jono being around all the time, & im not having a go here but i think that Jono should just relax a bit & let the site evolve, the site is here for the members after all :)

But the whole point of this site is supposed to be that it's a Scott Mills fansite... if Jono had intended it to be based solely around R1 he would have called it 'Unofficial Radio 1' or something along those lines.

I think it would be a good idea to have someone to keep Your Views up and running in Jono's absence, I can't as I'm very busy with uni work and don't get a lot of chances to listen but maybe someone who isn't quite as bogged down with school/college/uni work could.

yes i know that, but the site must evolve,

just lets say that Scott left Radio-1 & went to Capital, would everyone listen to Scott on there ?

i couldn't listen to him at my work or in the car, i could only do that at home either online or DAB, therefore i wouldn't listen to Scott anymore, not out of choice but i wouldn't be able to.

i have often thought about what would happen if Scott went.

i currently admin & mod a few sites, but i doubt Jono would want my help :(

Defo, I'd follow Scott onto any station. Capital only broadcasts to London on FM doesn't it?

judging by the quality of your arguments i think thats a scary thought for us all :D i am sure i am not alone in spotting the excessive usage of "&" !

It's a dangerous path, criticising other people's posting styles. Especially spelling, grammar and capitalisation.

I'm not sure what would happen to the site if Scott left to go to another station. I guess the Scott Mills section and the Radio 1 section would be independent of each other but would hopefully still continue.

If he left to retire or something, it would be a little weird to continue a forum about specifically him.

I've been finding the actual show with Scott a bit repetitive lately, so it's difficult to come up with topics. That will no doubt all change, I guess.

Actually, I've notised the show discussion has slowed dow, even when the shows on

I attempted to encourage posting to make a discussion, but no-one seemed to bother at all so I gave up and don't do it anymore. If we're using well known phrases: "I can lead you horses to water, but I can't make you drink..." ;)

Hence the name 'Capital' ;)

I'm not sure if i'd follow Scott on to another station, especially if it was commercial. He would probably only go for a breakfast slot and i'm not turning on the computer in the morning!

Nah I wouldn't do a morning show, I'd get his podcasts though if he still did them

    • Less so with 5 Live. But with Nihal, Nicky Campbell and Mark Chapman get what you are saying.6 Music does have that with Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe
    • Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.
    • To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?
    • It’s Jamie’s dream of a lifetime to be a full time Radio 1 presenter apparently, but he can only do it 2 or 3 days a week.
    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
