sounds like a maidstone voice over they used for one big weekend, they did the same thing after a while with the current male voice, he was used for one big weekend and then about this time last year i think he changed to all voice over work. saying that the old lady is back from time to time,

Cringe, Is it Holly from Maidstone?

I think I still prefer Becky the old lady but i'm sure she will grow on me.

They changed the male V/O this time last year so is it on a rotation of change - change the female one year, change the male the next year etc...

seems now like if you do voiceovers for the big weekend, you get the 'big' gig eventually. Didn't the current male one start off as a big weekend voiceover.

It would be quite funny if all the ID's were 'HI I'm Holly from maidstone..this is vernon kay.'

I suppose we'll grow to like her. But I agree Jono, her voice sounds a bit confused on the newsbeat stuff.

I can't work out why those country farmers off of Glastonbury last year haven't got the gig then...

Wherever she's from, she's not from the north (like 90% of BBC output). Is it just me or does she say 'Radio 1' a bit funny in between newsbeat stories. Her voice goes up on the 'rad' if you get what I mean.

It's probably just clips of Scott from early breakfast.

'Quick he mentioned Vernon Kay, we can use that for an ID and pretend it's a hot new voiceover artist!'

I don't like the thin, reedy quality to her voice, she seems a bit, dare I say it, thick and her delivery is poor . :|

I'm certain there are plenty of other people out there with far more pleasant voices and better pronunciation than Holly from Maidstone. I really don't understand why she got the gig?

I had to laugh at Moyles this morning on Carpark Catchphrase. There was a girl on from Maidstone.

Moyles: "Oh do you know Holly then?"

Girl: "Yeah!"

Moyles: "You know Holly from Maidstone?"

Girl: "Yeah!"

Unfortunately we all do now...

Yeah, that made me smile too this morning. I sense Moyles doesn't quite approve Holly being given the job.

I also think Chops' idea isn't bad. It might be nice to have the announcements/links done in various different regional accents. No Brummie or Welsh ones though please.;)

Was the guy from Preston One Big Weekend not Lip off of Shameless?

It is indeed. I prefered the deeper sounding guy but I suppose they are trying to make them sound youthful. I agree with Nati that they sound a bit thin. I suppose that's why they get voiceover guy in a lot... Speaking of which...

They should get Posh Radio 4 Lady to do all of the voiceovers..spread her popularity!

Yeah Radio 4 Lady and Voiceover Guy ;)

    • Yep I really struggled with Matt & Jamie which was a shame as otherwise really like Matt. Unfortunately it comes across on-air whether it's actually try or not that Jamie doesn't know a lot about radio and doesn't seem particularly desperate to improve either or if I'm being generous he's playing an act - neither of which particularly appeals. The everyman act can sometimes work but you need to have that natural likability and appeal for it to do so in the way that way Chris Stark did. I mean even towards the end of his stint with Matt Jamie was struggling with getting the Whatsapp number right which is a basic.
    • Have to say even if there is a good reason for Jamie to be off on Thursdays the optics of them a month in still not be able to do a 'normal week' of the scheduled team for a brand new show isn't great. And if Jamie was meant to be away on Thursdays clearly nobody let whoever runs BBC Sounds know. Who would've guessed from the Vick & Jordan days though that it would be Vick who's the everpresent so far (just kidding Vick - really rate her as a DJ and I know she has a lot of other engagements outside of Radio 1).
    • Sorry explain what you mean there please? Danny is unlistenable??
    • I dunno if it is me but even Vick and Katie don't sound as good in that slot alone as they did before. Maybe I have just fallen out of love with it all.
    • Agree with most of this above. Listening to only vick and katie today, I was thinking that it doesn't need Jamie. Its very jarring how sometimes he's there and sometimes he isn't. I don't think it needs to be a trio. Surely there are bigger problems at the moment, Danny on a pretty big slot on the station is literally unlistenable.
    • Yes, the length of the time on the station does help as with Annie Mac she did what dance specialist DJs kind of get a bit more favourability with the evening listeners who start out on something specialist. With Annie Mac she did years on dance before going to the flagship new music specialist programme with giving opportunities to new DJs and curating the playlist and having something different from Clara’s more music daytime show where she had to work with the playlist. Had she done more time doing a specialist show later on in the schedule it may have oddly made the moment bigger. Think sometimes what has helped create such a unique sound in presenters and personalities like Annie Mac, Jack and Grimmy for example starting out doing a late show with looser format. Think for the next Jack, Annie and Clara’s of the station do need to have a late live slot and do hope when radio 1 relax is shut down that maybe they change the power down playlist for something with bit more freedom.
    • She is a good broadcaster no doubts but am of the same page with feelings mutual.
    • Clara was always a decent, competent and even good music radio presenter. But equally, she never provoked really strong emotions in me that I must listen or must switch off.
    • Jamie is definitely very divisive though.  Some people's "radio comedy gold" is other people's "unlistenable".  I have liked Matt and Mollie, Matt on his own, Mollie and Jordan etc etc.  But couldn't listen to Matt with Jamie. No hate on Jamie but I just don't like his sense of humour.
    • The dynamics of this are interesting.  Jordan works best with people he knows and he already knows Chris and Sian so from day one it should sound fairly natural.
    • Have an amazing birthday Scott!  Looking forward to Tuesday!
    • This has to be a joke right. This is so Scott Mills 🤣
