Law at Nottingham. You want to do medicine, don't you? What uni?

Yep. UEA. Offer AABB. Quite lucky with that one. My friend bombed at their interview and got an offer of AAAA, because he's a genius, and they couldn't really say no outright it seems.

Law at Notts. I know someone who's in their final year there for law. He's really enjoyed it.

Ah Nottingham. What Hall have you applied for? The Uni is great, the city not so great. Whatever you do, don't live in Lenton when you move out of halls. There's plenty of nicer areas (although admittedly also worse areas).

If you like drinking, you've definitely picked the right uni.

I've decided to go for a private flat. It was a choice between socialising and good grades - I decided that if I go for private accommodation I'll be able to go out and socialise whenever I like which wouldn't be the case with uni accommodation. I'm a bit of a geek and during the exam period I usually don't see anyone for about 3 months. What's so bad about Lenton?

If you like to sleep, it's not a good area to live in. Drunk students going past at all hours of the day and night. It's also dirty because students don't care about what they do with their rubbish. The locals hate students. Label your personal belongings with an ultra violet pen and make a note of the serial numbers of your electricals. Make sure you've got window locks and you keep your windows and doors locked, even when you only leave the room for a minute.

I'm sure you'll have a good time here though. The university has a lovely big lake on campus which is really nice to visit.

Uhh sounds awful. Good thing I won't be living there.

Ahhh I've seen the lake :D It's really sweet :P I went to an open day in March. To be honest I was not impressed when I saw all the potential law students. I'm not judgemental but they did not look very social....

  • 4 weeks later...

Got my student finance loan assessment form through today for uni and whilst they have granted me the full amount for my tuition fees (£3145) they have only granted me £3651 for my maintenance loan (including a grant) which will be paid in 3 installments. I'm having trouble figuring out what this will mean because as far as I'm aware my accomodation will cost £2707.88 for the year, meaning I will have £943.12 to last me the entire first year of my course. This must be wrong?!?

Anyone currently at uni (or someone that has a greater understanding of this malarky than me) care to help me? :S

Yeah, but the £3651 is for the entire first year of the course, divided into 3 installements. So that's £1217 each term. Surely that isn't enough, seeing as I have to pay for my accomodation as well as food, going out, etc?

If this was the case £902.7 would go straight into my accomodation costs. :S

That would leave me with £314.30 a term. I realise I'll probably have extra income in the form of a part time job but even still, didn't realise uni would be such desparate times.

I'm so confused.
