Nihal, Vernon & Fearne to cover Edith

What I don't understand is that Fearne was supposed to be LEAVING the station but then she wasn't able to get things in order with her working visa in the US. What's the standing on that now? What would happen if she got the okay in the middle of all this?

Rumours from the newspapers. I don't think anyone said she'd be leaving, she was just considering taking up a role in America.

She wouldn't be able to just go back and forth now, would she? Just wasting $1,000 a week going back and forth. I'm honestly glad she didn't come over here, it would have been hard for her to make it.

you don't sound bitter about it not being greg in the slightest... :D

Hahahahahahahaha. Yeah, sorry.

I just don't see the point to put Fearne on, she's never there for her own shows a lot of the times (well, not lately) and it's been like this ever since Reggie and her used to do Early Breakfast together. I remember when Reggie did the whole week by himself and then she popped back in to do Friday's show with him.

And, now seeing that Nihal has been doing so many different slots, I think they may be overworking him a bit. What happens if Colin doesn't show up for one day? He isn't going to be expected to do two cover slots in one day. Rob Da Bank could always cover for Colin again, I suppose.

And then, there's Vernon who a lot of times doesn't go in because he's doing other work. I fear that it's going to get to a point where Reggie is going to have to cover for him and be expected to do the Request Show six hours later. Once Reggie didn't even show up on time, let's not hope that happens again.

I do think that Chappers and Dave are going to be called in a lot more often though, seeing as all these people do so much other than their radio work. There's no way Annie Mac or Nick Grimshaw can do anymore. If you could tell by this week's Early Breakfast, Nick was constantly pressing wrong buttons, yawning, complaining, and just overall very uninterested.

I don't really see the problem. Nihal is doing a month, Vernon and Fearne are alternating for the next two months. I can't imagine Radio 1 will go to pot because of it.

Was James King on crack when he said we'd like the covers? Also, why has everyone started to like Nihal? He's still rubbish. And didn't Vernon want more time with his family or something? And didn't Fearne want more time with the camera and her cats?

Pfffffffffffffffff bloody Fearne. I thought the Yanks had taken her off of our hands.

Nihal and Vernon I'm more than happy with on the other hand. Nihal grows on you Hannah, honestly. He's really quite sweet.

No Greg?:(

Pleased about the vernon choice, though wont be tuning into Nihal. i agree with Jono - he is good on weekend breakfast but dont bring him to daytime - he just doesnt have it!

To be honest i would rather listen to Fearne than Nihal in Ediths slot. Niha is just quite boring.

All ive ever heard Nihal do is read out texts for 3 hours, sigh and go dear, dear when he does that where is the love thing so i dont think i will be tuning in to him although i suppose its only fair to give him a try and see what hes like in Ediths slot.

Fearnes emphasis on random words really, really annoys me so i will leave her out.

Although I've mentioned Nihal wasn't that great on Scott's show, I think he has done a good job of covering for Edith before. As has Vernon. So I am looking forward to that. I've yet to see what Fearne will be like, but I just can't imagine her as someone 'settled' enough for Edith's show.

She has enthusiasm that works well for the pre-teens at weekends - but is this really what lunchtime workers want? But then let us remember that it's the school holidays and there will be plenty of kids prepared to listen.

As Fearne and Reggie are pulling a large amount in the chart show RAJARs each quarter, bosses must know what they're doing by putting her on during July and August.

Unfortunately, in the eyes of the bosses, those that listen the other ten months a year will be a minority when it comes to the school holidays.

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
