They make it more bearable when there's a pre-record and the newsreader isn't sure when to end the news, which in turn ruins the music. They only have to wait for this bit now.

It's quite impressive what they can do with a beat these days. But when did that first become the Radio 1 'logo'. It just seemed to have started in the news and progressed to the chart before progressing to Radio 1's Big Weekend beds.

Some of them are bad like the one on The Killers track, Human. But I suppose they are sometimes quite difficult to create especially if a song starts with a percussive intro, or a song without a melodic intro.

In general, I like them apart from when they chop up the song or add silly effects to make the Idents fit.

These things really annoy me and always have done ever since they were introduced, in my opinion they completely ruin the start of a song.

Compared to what? It only replaced a newsbeat outro which was so loud you missed the start of a song anyway.

I don't remember that. Unless its the same thing as what they use at the 6.30am Newsbeat which has got a mini ramp up to the logo where the Dom says 'It's 6.30, time for the Chris Moyles show.' They also use it over christmas on Newsbeat. Any clips?

Yes, that is it. That was what you heard and sometimes the song started at the same time and you missed the start.

They have started recycling old 1tros and using them as standard jingles to go over any intro. Who knew Holly from Maidstone's fees were so high, they had to make budget cuts on the jingles.

They are just doing that for old-er songs. For example, if an oldish song came up, they'd just find any suitable 1tro and put it on the beginning instead of just using the generic one they used to use. Pretty much all new songs' intros are still being made by Music 4

I wondered how these came about, I just thought they had a machine that adapted the radio 1 "logo" to the beginning of the song. I really like the Estelle one, it flows into the song nicely where some of them are a bit rough.

The BBC are clever, but not that clever :)

Sure they'll try it one day soon though!

it could easily be set up. They'd just need a database logging all the 1tros and how they start and then all the songs and how they start.

For example, a 1tro could be tagged as "slow piano" and then that would go with a "slow piano" song, such as The Pussycat Dolls - I Hate This part.

Simple

Well, the thing with 1tros is that because it Has to be that melody (You know, that you can very easily sing Radio 1 over), It's very limited. So some for a handful of songs aren't going to fit at all. Which is a shame but not much can be done with it. :(

    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
