The Associated Board of McDonalds Adjudicators

Gordon Brown has seen fit to let Mackie Ds hand out GCSE/A level standard awards for fast food service.

'This employee has excelled in the field of doling out of greasy, unhealthy, environmetally unfriendly crap in a box in under 5 minutes to the customer - give him an 'A''.

Makes me wonder if any of our hard won GCSE/A level results are worth the paper/ paper bag they are printed on?

I was under the impression that Government policy generally discouraged the consumption/promotion of stuff that is very bad for you???

On you go Gordon! Go, get that deep fried Mars Bar down you!

The McQualification will be treated as a joke by outside employers, regardless of its equivalent worth to A-levels.

Universities too (especially the top-level Universities) will likely dismiss it.

There's lots of qualifications which are pointless. I'm not sure they'll ever be taken in the same standing as a good old-fashioned A level (or A2 level these days). I suppose it's nice that they're making a token effort to give people qualifications, but they're no use unless they have a value.

I dunno, anyone who can get a talentless group of semi evolved neaderthals to prepare food and react in a pavlovian way to various beeps and alarms and repeat simple phrases has to be doing something right I guess..

Honestly the MacD's in London seem more like the UN these days. They even have pictures on the tills so reading is not a requirement.

Sometimes here, sometimes not.

I have a friend who works in McDonalds. It's a horrible place, the food repulses me and the decoration and the clown scare me.

Still, I suppose at least this way, Gordon Brown doesn't have to cough up funds himself, and McDonalds gain another corporate social responsibility brownie point.

You know that the colours red and yellow are used by corporations to stimulate parts of the brain, which make people hungry, eat quickly and get out of the 'restaurant' FAST.

One principle is it makes those who are doing A-levels feel like they're doing them in vain if you can just go and get a job at McDonalds and end-up with an A-level qualification(s).

Another is the lazy and crap government we have taking the easy option out of trying to increase a skilled workforce, when all they need to do is make education free at the point of use for everyone, regardless of age, paid for out of the pockets of the wealthiest companies and individuals. But that looks too much like socialism, so they'll avoid it at all costs. Socialism = bad, capitalism = good.

Third, it involves private companies creeping into the education system, which is still, largely, under state control. City Academies (which should be demolished) are funded partly by wealthy individuals (they put up around £2m, the government provides £20m) but the agreement is the individual with the money gets to decide the academies ethos, which, frankly, disgusts me as it means a religious nut can come along and effectively decide the curriculum of the City Academy they are head of. It's this sort of private-state mixing, where the former effectively gets the best deal, which is what's most rotten about New ****ing Labour. The interests and well-being of capitalists (philanthropists if you're a Tory) come before everyone else.

Nope, not getting the problem. People who get a job at McDonalds instead of doing A levels are probably less likely to be able to do A levels to start with because school or 6th form doesn't suit them. So if they can get a qualification that'll enable them to get a better job managing something somewhere then good luck to them.

But that's mostly what the argument is about...how effective will a Mickey Mouse A-level be in gaining employment outside of McDonalds, when your rivals for the same job will have genuine A-levels and far greater potential as an employee? How many people will a youth who's got a McDonalds qualification have to beat before he gets a better job outside of McDonalds?

We need more plumbers, electricians, brick layers, roofers...the incentive should be trying to get unskilled school leavers, who are likely to be working in McDonalds, into non-academic professions with good prospects at no cost to the individual, not building people up for a big come down in later life.

:yeahthat:

I completely agree, don't really need to add to that.

Apart from pointing out that my younger brother, who is an electrician/plumber earns over five times as much as I do as an English teacher.

His plumbing skills are also seriously taken advantage of, in his spare time, by both family and friends. Poor b*stard.

I on't see the problem. From a business point of view, you have to admit that it makes sense, providing the person has some sort of managerial skills. Wasn't the qualification called Shift Management or something?

Communism makes sense!!!

Capitalism makes sense too doesn't it? One or a few individuals, taking the largest share of the money from a workforce that generates all the wealth for them? Perfect sense.

The Russians just took to the extremes, thats all!

One mentally unstable and evil Russian didn't take communism to an extreme, he took the constitutional power vested in his position to sabotage a paragon of near economic and political perfection in Leninism which had preceded him and control with wicked and unconditional hatred what had started out in 1917 as a good intention for a brilliant country.

True. Both Communism and Capitalism both make perfect sense in theory, don't tend to work very well in pratice though...

I was being sarcastic about the capitalism post. I don't think it does. The only reason it has won the hearts and minds of people in Europe and North America (and now China, India, Brazil and so on) is because its main principles of greed and selfishness play to the basic human driving factors. The others: anger, foolishness and egoism play to its political equivalent, conservatism, rather too well.
