Jamie Laing’s appearances on Going Home 

I am writing with concerns about the amount of time JamieLaing and to a lesser extent Vick Hope are absent from Radio 1 Going Home.

Going Home is a major part of Radio 1 and is titled Going Home with Vick, Katie and Jamie. It is 4 days a week Monday-Thursday and deserves consistency.

Jamie is away an awful lot, does not appear committed to the station in terms of his attendance and that his social media is geared solely towards his private projects and little mention of Radio 1 compared to the other presenters.

I’m not against presenters having other private work but believe that having your name to such a show means that for most weeks you should be presenting your show most days the show is on. I appreciate presenters sometimes require extended time off for personal or other commitments but this should be the exception than the norm. I strongly believe that the current situation is far from satisfactory for the following reasons. 1. It is not fair on the listeners to have such a disrupted show not knowing who is on and it’s not fair on Katie to keep having to adjust to different cohosts 2. I dont believe it is fair on the current talent who live and breath radio who would be more committed to Radio 1 and I dare say at a better value show rate to license fee payers which in this day and age of cuts which I hate to see but understand is necessary.

Unless it has an impact on listener figures I don't think the complaints about Going Home are going to go anywhere. The figures have been very healthy, it remained a popular show when Jordan North left, so the listeners are quite content with how it's going. You will recall Kelly Osborne and even Vernon Kay were regularly off the schedules. Vernon was renamed "Vern-off" by Moyles for his annual leave total. It's not unusual.

They were 1 day a week slots at the weekend very different to prime drive time

They clearly say in the response:

That's not the case here.

I am not a fan of Jamie Laing and my Radio 1 listening declined a lot after Jordan left but.... 

(a) I don't think it's a valid complaint to say somebody doesn't work enough

(b) I really become convinced that many radio stations are more about habit than presenter.

Points of view these days with Tina (yes that one) is back on the autumn. Will see what the FOI brings with regards to Jamie.

Yep and close to what i've commented a few times when people suggest getting rid of Vick due to her part-time schedule!

I haven’t seen that much regarding Vick Hopes complaints and I genuinely think most of the time she has been being a mum and flexible working makes sense.
 

She sort of explained it fairly well and knew where we were at. Jamie imo doesn’t get the same leeway, wouldn’t have begrudged a bit of paternity leave and holiday but extensive time off for other business interests is taking the p

Regardless of their routine, it's incredible how they all ended up parents in a short space of time of becoming a trio. Quite the baby boom at Radio 1!

Thank you for your email of 22nd June. The BBC is replying under the Freedom of

Information Act 2000 (“FOI Act”). You asked:

I am asking with regards to Jamie Laings contract to present the Going Home Show on

BBC Radio 1.

Going Home is titled as Going Home with Vick Hope. Katie Thistleton and Jamie Laing

and is meant to be on Monday-Thursday 3.30pm-5.45pm on BBC Radio 1

1. Please can you confirm does Jamie have a contract to be a presenter Monday-

Thursday or is he paid a fee per show.

2. Has he had his contract adjusted in the number of shows he is expected to present

and/or value of his contract in the last year?

3. Do the presenters who fill in for Jamie/Vick Hope get paid the same rate as them or

is that rate different?

We have carefully considered your request and concluded that it is clear from your

description of the information you are seeking that if the BBC held information of the kind

you have asked for, it would all be held for the purposes of journalism, art or literature.

The FOI Act does not apply to information held by the BBC for any of those purposes. This

is explained in an information sheet enclosed with this letter.

To be clear, in this case we have not searched for any information since any that we found

I have no clue why you thought a complaint and FOI request would go anywhere?! And I maintain what I've written elsewhere, that the 'Jamie problem' is one that exists mainly on forums and isn't felt by the wider listener group!
