Thought i would get everyone's thoughts on who they want with predictions. 

A lot of speculation that it might be Rylan. I would be very disappointed in this decision as maybe selfish of me I would rather a radio person got the gig. I am personally not a fan of him. I will say the same for Romesh and Emma keep them all on Saturday it probably suits them all too.

OJ seems the natural choice always been the go to cover and seems popular with most of the audience. I guess the issue will be he probably wants to host it from Salford? I guess this could cause delays in any announcement. 

Ritchie Anderson? Not for me but if they go with OJ they may put him on the over night shows? 

Spoony? Think he is settled with the Good Groove so don't see it and think he may need a side kick for TeaTime?

Greg James? Surely not? But if he is loyal.to the BBC and they make him an offer he can't refuse it could happen?

Curve Balls- Roman Kemp, anyone from a rival station?

I think they could go down a duo route like Hits and Heart and to some extent Radio 1.

So what's everyone's thoughts on this? Who have I missed?

It will likely be OJ. I don’t particularly like him but Richie Anderson will take OJ shows. There is no one else. It won’t be a bigger star than Cox. Take Greg James off the list, it definitely won’t be him. That would leave a massive hole in the Radio 1 schedule.

I feel like Rylan has very much become a radio person in the same way people like Vernon, Zoe and even Sara herself became after doing TV first. He’s a really good broadcaster and you can tell he’s got versatility from his Radio 4 show in contrast to his Radio 2 one. 
 

I think it’ll most likely be OJ though as it seems like he’s been warming up for a daytime slot for ages. Perhaps he’ll be able to negotiate a Manchester production rather than a London one.

He took over Saturday afternoons in January 2019, when Zoe took over Breakfast. He sat in for Zoe in the same slot twice the previous year.

Around 7 1/2 years I think - he got the Saturday afternoon slot when Zoe Ball got the breakfast show which was in January 2019!

Rylan's great, and i love listening to his Saturday afternoon show but... drivetime is a totally different style of show. Drivetime, like breakfast is quite slick with features, timings etc. The format of Rylan's show sits perfectly for the time of week it's on. 

I think considering the circumstances, they'll probably will try not to rock the boat.. and we may get the most obvious 'safe' options, therefore OJ Borg to drivetime seems most likely . He'll be familiar with the drivetime audience considering the amount of times he's sat in. He's been on overnights 8 years now so a new presenter in that slot will be more logical than the suggestion of taking Spoony off The Good Groove after only a year of it running 4 days a week.

It would then possibly mean Richie Anderson could take overnights across the week. Radio 2 clearly like him, to the point they gave him the Sunday into Monday overnight show in addition to his travel reporting duties.

I think OJ is great and like him to get it. Lot of comments on socials say the same.  Maybe Radio 2 mix it up a bit.

Monday to Thursday

2:00 Afternoons with Trevor

4:30 Drivetime with OJ from Salford 

Friday

2:00 All Request Friday with Gary Davis 

4:00 Weekend Starter with Rylan 

Ellie take over Rylan on Saturday of he doesn't want to do both.

That all seems likely. My mate who i do radio with loves Rylan too and says his shows are a lot like Coxy real fun chaos. You enjoy the personality rather than the format

Do you know what I was thinking of other scenarios. Maybe Rylan gets it Mon-Fri and then Gary gets all Request Friday at least that way Gary has been rewarded for this tricky period 🤔

I think it will be OJ all the way, changed my opinion on it, they won't want to drastically change the show, All Request Friday will stay as it is, I think OJ gets drive and RIchie gets overnights all week, and they bring a new travel presenter onto drive with OJ (Bobby Prior back on weekdays?)

Ahh. That explains why i've heard Trevor and Sara making references to her joining Radio 2 when's she's been filling in for Richie and Bobbie...

I think it's more likely that OJ to teatime and Richie taking the overnight slot all week is about to happen. Surely if Richie moved back to breakfast to be with Sara, then Ellie would move to the afternoon rather than bringing in another travel presenter?

Richie has been away from presenting the travel for a while as he's been filming Celebrity Apprentice. I wonder if that means he won't return to his travel presenting role now?

That's what I said above 😁

Trevor and Sara made a big deal of him being away from the travel (wishing him luck with what we now now is Celeb Apprentice), but I'm sure he said he'd back.

      20th July Alyx Holcombe in for Jack Saunders 21st July No presenters listed for the New Music Show or Future Artists and both shows list separate programmes for each hour, I wonder if there is a link between that and the event on Tuesday?

      I haven’t seen that much regarding Vick Hopes complaints and I genuinely think most of the time she has been being a mum and flexible working makes sense.   She sort of explained it fairly well and knew where we were at. Jamie imo doesn’t get the same leeway, wouldn’t have begrudged a bit of paternity leave and holiday but extensive time off for other business interests is taking the p

      Saturday 8th August: Joel Dommett in for Dermot O'Leary  Ellie Taylor in for Emma Willis Sunday 9th August: Ricky Ross (lead singer of Deacon Blue) is presenting Sounds Of The 70's. W/C Monday 10th August: Joel Dommett is doing a second week on drivetime.   Clara Amfo sits in for Trevor Nelson on Thursday 13th August, with Mark Goodier sitting in on Friday 14th (Spoony's in Monday-Wednesday)

      Weekend Breakfast can become a bit of a content wasteland though. Look at the difference in show that Matt & Mollie did there compared to weekend afternoons. I totally agree with your point though, both shows are interchangeable but I think it’s a good call to have Mylo & Rosie on for 5 mornings a week. I haven’t seen it confirmed anywhere, but are we assuming they’ll still be Salford too? Could Emil being based in London mean that show is moved back there because weekends already have other Salford based shows?

      Early and weekend breakfast I see as pretty similar. I expect Emil to do be doing quite a bit of weekday cover especially on going home so probably makes sense he does weekend breakfast.

      That's a good point about Giant Detention but I wouldn't say there's been an equal mix. We've had Giant Jigsaw, Giant DJ Hunt and Giant Face Off which were all hunt ones and before Giant Detention I think the last mystery one would've been Summer Breakout before Vick and Jordan started drive time.

      Now I think about it, I’m surprised Mylo & Rosie and Emil Franchi weren’t the other way around. Wouldn’t it make more sense for a duo with years of breakfast experience to do weekend breakfast rather than be wasted on early breakfast? Not that Emil isn’t also more than capable but out of him and M+R pairing it would make more sense if he was on earlies?

      I didn't get a chance to reply. There aren't really many shocks though maybe; - James Cusack is a surprise exit but maybe he has something else lined up. A daily high profile show on a big network is likely to be better financially than being stuck on weekend breakfast at Radio 1 with no clear progression. - Going Home is clearly going to limp on as it is. - It feels strange Vicky Hawksworth is staying as no shows seem to have worked for her yet.  The new set-up for her doesn't feel like it will last forever. Nothing else is much of a surprise, presenters leaving that have reached the natural end of their Radio 1 life, full-time shows for tried and trusted cover and a big promotion for Jeremiah who has hardly been off daytime radio over the past year to 18 months.
