Hi everyone I really can’t listen to capital fm anymore I have tried so hard to like this station due to Jordan north moving there but it’s so repetitive and boring the same songs gets played over and over again this is why radio 1 is the best station in the uk does anyone else agree with me

My mum used to listen to Capital FM religiously, and it put me off pop music because I thought that's all it was.

It wasn't until I started listening to Radio 1 I understood how exciting new music can be, so yes I get where you're coming from. Capital FM is very broad.

I hate to admit it but I think there is an age thing here too.

I hadn't given up on Radio 1 as I found Radio 2 too old but I am finding Capital's music is sort of working for me.  It helps that outside Breakfast it is pure wallpaper.

I find frankly with certain tracks or artists Radio 1 can be just as bad sometimes as Capital at overplaying them. Plus there's certainly an overlap in playlist - whether I tune in to either I'm not too far from Espresso, Rudimental, Benson Boone or Teddy Swims.

I'm a bit of a nomad really - the Radio 1 playlist can often be a bit of a miss for me but I wouldn't listen to Capital for long periods either as it understandably feels very commercial.  But also I'm not ready to be pensioned off to Radio 2 yet. Basically I end up a mix of Jordan at Breakfast (but have tuned in to Matt & Mol and Sam & Danni covering Breakfast the past few weeks), dropping into Radio 1 if a DJ or show I like are on and I'll also have a healthy dose of Capital Dance.

I never really started, my association with that 102.2 frequency around my way stopped when Galaxy did. Radio 1 do go mad on artists too, they used to over 20 years ago during my peak listening. These days it's Raye for instance who's severely overrated. But their main playlist is far more expansive. Stuff like Jungle Back on 74 last year which I liked was played by Radio 1, never saw it make Capitals playlist.

on the grid.

Yep as time goes on I am struggling with Capital. Jordan, Chris and Sian are all great but it can get very repetitive. It feels like every time I listen I'll hear Benson Boone or Noah Kahan within 15 minutes without fail. And if you've heard the Bong Game a few times, you've heard it a thousand times.

Though Radio 1 are also not exempt from that though and again unless you really like a small selection of artists it's sometimes best avoided at Breakfast. You'd be forgiven for thinking music didn't exist before Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Fred Again, Chase & Status or Rudimental - of course they'll be mentioned and played with it being a youth station but if you don't like one of their tracks it can be a struggle listening for an extended period. 'Alibi' was a perfect example - one of the lazier samples of the year (with strong competition in that category) and not exactly one of Rudimental's best but my word did Radio 1 play it to death.

I've had this too, so I've just been recording the shows to listen to later if I want to so I can skip or cut out the repetitive playlist and the irritating ads. I really like Jordan and Chris and Sian and Kemi are great too but even thought it does feel like they are trying to poach Radio 1 listeners in style as well as presenters (that ramp up intro is so similar to Greg's intro. Particularly the previous one from 2022 ish) but its still way too commercial understandably to listen regularly.

It can be enjoyable but R1, R2, 1Xtra and 6M are just as so and considerably more interesting in either content or music or presenters to me (or all three). And less annoying. Its consistency that's part of it.

And outside of daytime is night and day. Specialist stuff is basically non-existent. I know people talk up the Capital Weekender but what passes for specialist on a global station is genuinely interesting. MistaJam is good but if you don't like (relatively) mainstream dance then you're sol, because that's all capital is going to offer in terms of "specialist".

Meanwhile the nighttime shows on  R1 are generally very good and improving . And imo have improved particularly with the schedule changes. The Jack Sian setup just works much better than the Clara Jack setup. Which is not to say that Clara was bad but Jack is better at this show than he was at his old show and than Clara was at Future Sounds. And I just enjoy Sian doing Future artists a lot more than Jack doing it, its a good decision generally

Its probably not peak Zane or peak Annie or Evening session levels but its well rounded in terms of genres and styles and all the shows do what they are supposed to in playing newer or up and coming or lesser known or soon to be famous songs or artists. They're going to have problems with directing trends and being a taste maker in the tiktok streaming era but what  ain't broken. And let's be real so is Zane and he works for one of the streaming services
