I'm shocked, I thought he was the next breakfast show presenter. It all seems so sudden ?

Jamie Lang is taking over from March 4th

No way!! I think he must have been poached by Capital surely. What a shame that he never got the Radio 1 Breakfast Show!
I genuinely can’t see anyone obvious waiting in the wings now for R1 Breakfast if Greg steps down. I’m guessing that Matt and Mollie might get it for a little while?

I don't think the bbc can release official press releases for a hoax or a wind-up. It's genuine.

Gutted. Shocked. Blindsided. And only 2 weeks left. What happened so suddenly?

I did notice that he spent New Year with Sian Welby and he put a photo of them together on Instagram a few days ago at an awards ceremony.

I hope it is a move to another network and he hasn’t been sacked for other reasons…

Jordan turned 34 this week.  As I have said before if he didn't get breakfast ASAP he was never going to get it so if he had a big offer elsewhere, you can see why he'd snap it.

His podcast has become absolutely huge over the past year too.

I honestly think this could be the point where I tune out of Radio 1 after Greg (unless Jordan is doing Breakfast somewhere).  I stuck with Dean and Vicky simply as I didn't bother tuning out to come back but I can't listen to Jamie Laing so.

If he had been sacked, he wouldn't be still on air till the start of March. Definitely poached

Yeah and Katie is joking about it so I don't think he's been sacked.

I honestly thought he'd be given the breakfast show on Radio 1 this year, and he wouldn't go elsewhere.

Surely this is setting up for a Roman Kemp exit from Capital breakfast, with Jordan taking over?

As for Jamie Laing... awful replacement in my eyes. Katie surely should've at least got it?

To be fair to Capital Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby is an awesome line up.

Listening to Katie Thistleton clearly upset right now is an interesting listen!

Think this really is the biggest loss possible for Radio 1 - really does royally mess things up. Jamie Laing? He was Matt’s silly side kick, he’s not a Radio DJ.

Mirror headline is:

The Mirror

Jordan North quits BBC Radio 1 as he becomes latest star to leave amid mass exodus.

Body of the article is basically just the same as every other though.

Ken Bruce was given longer to say goodbye than Jordan North. Very strange things happening at Radio 1 - DJs sounding upset, one wonders if Greg is even off with Covid!

Radio Today suggests he'll have another 'high profile' programme in the future.

Can't understand why drive isn't given to Katie, I thought Vick would be the first off!

I think given how brief the statement is on R21 social, it's either got to be a prank for Mega Massive Monday as someone else mentioned, or that he is moving to another station. Very sad if he really is leaving... although I agree that he would be great with Chris and Sian on Capital!

I’m a bit surprised that Vick has stayed too. I thought that if Jordan went, she would go with him really and then have a whole new line up at drive.

It’s a shame the Vick and Jordan (and Katie) partnership only lasted a couple of years because it was by far my favourite on radio 1

That just shows how sudden the announcement is really, poor Vick probably didn't have much of a chance to work things out, I doubt she'd just quit on the spot ... and they've also drafted in the emergency cover of Jamie Laing. Something very off about this, for sure.

    • I'd very much like it to be him too. Would be the most logical option, As far as guest/celebrity stand ins go, I like mind Ellie Taylor... she's definitely one of the better stand ins. I can't see them getting her to cover the slot in the interim period if she is to become the full time presenter in September though. She's doing the following 3 weeks of Saturday lunchtimes. I wonder if she's Emma's replacement during Strictly season?
    • I'm liking what I've heard so far. She was brilliant on tea time and whenever she covered Scott too. Glad she's brought some her jingles/songs with her, but shortened/updated them for brekky.  PS was she as silly and bonkers when she was on R1 as she is on R2? I don't really remember much of her old shows on R1, although I do remember listening to her covering for Fearne.
    • There's already a scheduled livestream on the R1 YouTube channel 😁
    • I hope it's OJ but I am liking Ellie Taylor at the moment.
    • There's also Feedback on R4, the radio version of Points of View: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006slnx I like the blurb for this random episode I've just clicked on from 2012, "Does Radio 1 have too many celebrity presenters? Are they too old?" 😂 https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01jxw4s
    • I have no clue why you thought a complaint and FOI request would go anywhere?! And I maintain what I've written elsewhere, that the 'Jamie problem' is one that exists mainly on forums and isn't felt by the wider listener group!
    • Could be Rickie and Melvin?
    • A couple of months on and still no announcement on who is taking over teatime. We know they're rotating 'interim' hosts throughout the summer, so presumably any permanent host will be taking over at the start of September at the earliest. I'm starting to wonder if it's not OJ Borg after all. There could've been delay in the logistics of him agreeing to a London based show, or production moving up to Salford, but surely they would have announced him by now? That said, I'm surprised he's been nowhere near teatime since Sara finished. Radio 2 rarely go for outsiders when it comes to their main weekday slots, they usually promote from within so will be interesting to see who they go with? I'd be surprised if they parachute in someone that hasn't broadcast on Radio 2 before.
    • Freedom of Information request – OOS2026/01183 Thank you for your email of 22nd June. The BBC is replying under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“FOI Act”). You asked: I am asking with regards to Jamie Laings contract to present the Going Home Show on BBC Radio 1. Going Home is titled as Going Home with Vick Hope. Katie Thistleton and Jamie Laing and is meant to be on Monday-Thursday 3.30pm-5.45pm on BBC Radio 1 1. Please can you confirm does Jamie have a contract to be a presenter Monday- Thursday or is he paid a fee per show. 2. Has he had his contract adjusted in the number of shows he is expected to present and/or value of his contract in the last year? 3. Do the presenters who fill in for Jamie/Vick Hope get paid the same rate as them or is that rate different? We have carefully considered your request and concluded that it is clear from your description of the information you are seeking that if the BBC held information of the kind you have asked for, it would all be held for the purposes of journalism, art or literature. The FOI Act does not apply to information held by the BBC for any of those purposes. This is explained in an information sheet enclosed with this letter. To be clear, in this case we have not searched for any information since any that we found would be non-disclosable, and the searches would not serve any useful purpose
    • It's just Rickie & Melvin today.
    • A message has just been played saying: 'Ready for a game? Tomorrow morning at 8' or along those lines.
    • Nat & Vicky have just said it's Ore & Swarzy next instead of Danni & Ore.   Edit: They've just corrected themselves, it is Danni & Ore.
    • Regardless of their routine, it's incredible how they all ended up parents in a short space of time of becoming a trio. Quite the baby boom at Radio 1!
