Radio 1 one always plug everything to death anyway even mr moyles is sick of the constant OBW jingles not that bothered about really as I generally only listen to mills & moyles out of radio 1's daytime output. As for FIA thing i got bored of that tedious thread ages ago and would rather listen to the hellogoodbye single in one ear and the kooks in the other than read that thread again. Anyway smile everybody the suns out yay

i thought it was going to be a genuine chance for those outside the north west to win tickets. it looks like the bbc have just been using this forum for easy promotion and to try and make us look stupid. they didnt give a monkeys about us getting tickets they just wanted to promote their little project how tedious and what a big disappointment!! thanks a lot 'paul denchfield' how about considering the real fans next time

There are 15 pairs of tickets up for grabs. You can get friends in the area to pick them up for you if you can't make it there yourself. I'd make sure it was someone you can trust, though... ;-)

The main thing is to get people along to the Big Weekend who have followed this investigation for a while. You deserve those tickets, so have a go at getting them!

Keep an eye on this page: http://www.silburngriggsmining.com/projectfia/

Cheers,

Paul

and what do you propose those from down south do? i am more than happy to pay to go up for the weekend but you do realise how expensive it is to go up twice. thats not the real fans at all thats just for the rich. we might as well buy off ebay its about the same price

You could always try moving to the north east, finally living in cumbria has an advantage:* . Agree with on the ebay ticket fiasco though

I'm assuming you have to complete some challenge or something or at least thats what the msg you get after solving that puzzle thing

Just think, two days out of 365 this year they get to go to OBW, the other 363 they have to live in the north east... :P

Granted my plan does have its flaws

Eek, just checked out E-Bay and found these. Radio 1 should really be doing something about these touts.

They cancelled my old a/c when I fake bid on loads of tickets for OBW after writing them an e-mail asking them to explain there shamless profiteering on such sales all I got back was a standard form email which didn't address any of my issues ebay & customer service words that don't really go together

I've been running this site three years now, and still no offering of tickets to this major event.

Looks like I left the press office too late. It wasn't a no - but they said they didn't have any press passes left.

it's this idea of it going to preston that gets me. alright, 98% of tickets went to the people of preston or north west in the huge giveaway. i didn't expect them to then bias the whole phone-in competition towards them too. and this frozen indigo angel stuff as well.

the people of the uk listen day in day out, the people of preston don't. they suddenly listen as soon as this big event turns up. radio 1 seem to think we're incapable of travelling to preston, and think we're all ticket touts if we live outside preston.

I would rather shoot myself than read the frozen indigo angel thread again

I feel exactly the same, I have far more important things to worry about than yet another ridiculously overhyped Radio 1 publicity stunt. Because that's essentially all it is... simple as. Finished. So accept it.

So save the last dance

i cant have a go at radio 1 for trying, but as usual like anything thats daytime that they are involved in. it gets used to often and people get bored of it. like one big weekend, i remember dundee and it was only a matter of time until it came around again. and of course it was going to be bigger and better than ever before, and sooo much better than dundee which is crap in comparison. if it was so crap then why do it to begin with?!

im going on here, if you cant beat them, join them i say:-

"GET READY FOR RADIO 1'S BIG WEEKEND IN PRESTION! COMING SOON!"

on the grid.

Most people don't listen as much as us - I do get sick of all the promo but see no harm in still trying to get tickets.

I agree though that it's a bit much to expect people, especially hard up young students, to travel a long way. The tickets are hardlty "free" then, and winners can't be expected to suddenly aquire friends in the area - or is the idea anyone who wins in the South has to be accompanied by a Lancastrian at the event? Can hardly ask them to pick up tickets without giving them at least one of said tickets..

Marketing is marketing, s'pose. UP to HERE with FIA and boboboboing Big Weekend in Preston.

What's it with this big girl's blouse hotel stuff? There's plenty of agricultural land around Preston. Rucksack and tent, and stop wingeing! Don't forget the loo roll.

Feel sorry for poverty stricken students being unable to attend, but their teachers don't earn much more than an average grant! Believe me , I know.

Decided to make alternative arrangements for summer music. Benicassim in Valencia, if poss. Will cost me an arm and a leg, hopefully I can choose which! Fingers crossed. depending on which arm.

Webcam and red button for my Big Weekend. HAVE FUN Willy Wonker-ites!

Jono - did you not get tickets!?

I thought that them shamelessly using your site for the FIA thing would be enough on its own!, never mind the content you have assisted with!

Your bandwidth must have gone through the roof this past month or so...and they dont have a ticket for you! Disgusting!!!!!!!!

Haha, get the pitch forks, we'll march on Great Portland Street!

No, I did get tickets. Unfortunately I didn't get any till Friday night, and subsequently I took the choice an ICT deadline on Monday was more important. Had I have known earlier nothing would have stopped me.

    • Less so with 5 Live. But with Nihal, Nicky Campbell and Mark Chapman get what you are saying.6 Music does have that with Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe
    • Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.
    • To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?
    • It’s Jamie’s dream of a lifetime to be a full time Radio 1 presenter apparently, but he can only do it 2 or 3 days a week.
    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
