Never Mind The Buzzcocks

I didn't think anyone could replace Mark Lamarr on the Buzzcocks. He was a VERY hard act to follow.

What happened there? Does anyone know why he left the show, or was replaced?

Sceptical when Simon Amstell took over - but he's a maestro! I adore the programme under his reign (sorry - queen pun). He's such a bitch! Thought he was a little harsh with Amy Winehouse, but seems they're friends and he worries about her possibly.?

CAN'T WAIT 'til the new series. Will get my Bill Bailey fix in a minute though on Johnathan Ross.

When is it coming back?

I think Mark just felt like taking a break cause hasn't he presented it right from the start which is like from 1996 or something? So yeah he wanted a break and he wanted to focus on other projects but I personally haven't heard anything of him at all since he left I don't think!

I was a bit unsure of Simon at first, I think it took him a little while to get a feel for it,as it was a big pair of shoes he had to fill! But yeah I think he was totally the right choice to take over. He's amazin'!

And Bill said on JR tonight that it would be back later on in the year! Yay!!!

Can't wait for new series. Couldn't pay attention to Bill on JR tonight - my mum rang!

Don't blame Mark wanting break, but Bill and Phil have been there from the beginning too...

Have a v strange feeling Mark presents something on Radio 2 - might have imagined it though. Gonna have a look.

 Not that I do or anything...

I love Buzzcocks and Bill Bailey is properly amazin'. Everything I've ever seen him on has been hilarious, but I need to YouTube the Jonothan Ross interview, since I missed it tonight. :(

My sister saw Bill live a while back. She was so excited to go but she said he wasn't very funny that night! Ah well!

Nope,

I did too and met him.

Long story, but I notice you're from Glasgow.

Went to Uni there 91-95, my flatmate Wendy on Cecil St was going out with ML (briefly). So obviously when he was in Glasgow I blagged an intro to Steve Coogan who I adored at the time, was told he liked blondes, so thought I'm in there. SC might be funny, but HMMMMM.

  • 1 year later...

Comedian Bill Bailey, the long-running team captain on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, is leaving the BBC2 music panel show after 11 series.

Bailey's place on the show, which returns early next month for its 22nd run, will instead be filled with guest captains from the worlds of comedy and music including Frank Skinner, Dermot O'Leary, Jack Dee, Johnny Vegas and Bob Mortimer.

Music producer Mark Ronson will take Bailey's position for the first episode of the new series.

The show's producer, TalkbackThames, said Bailey - who has been on the show since 2002 - had decided to stand down because of other work commitments.

"After 11 series selflessly, heroically and hilariously captaining one side on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, other commitments have sadly led to Bill Bailey being unable to take part in the forthcoming series of the hit comedy pop quiz," the show's spokeswoman said.

As well as acting as team captain, Bailey also appeared twice as a guest.

In the last series, Bailey was replaced by fellow comedian Noel Fielding as team captain for three episodes.

oh, thats such a shame :(

I hope eventually he'll be replaced properly by Noel Fielding, rather than guest Captains each week, he did a good job keeping us laughing when Bill Bailey was absent last time

:(

Yeah, really enjoyed the ones where Noel Fielding stepped in.. he seems right for the show

Noel Fielding did okay as a host, but it turned into three episodes of Noel loving, and yeah, he has a real lack of music knowledge.

Bill Bailey is just a genius with his comedic talent and really good at the piano.

Mark Ronson will be interesting on it, he was okay as a guest, apart from Amstell's constant jibes about Amy Winehouse.

    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
    • They knew Roman wanted to leave early last year but wasn't officially announced but he gave them time to sort replacement. Found and offered Jordan a deal in June or July and needed time to get Jordan out of Contract at bbc and roman to do notice  Jordan had dinner with Katie Vick and Arielle to ask advice and all said he should go.
    • And they told Radio 4’s Feedback that it was an ‘experiment’ to ‘look at the best way to serve young listeners’ but reaffirmed that 280 hours commitment.
    • I doubt he wanted to go to Global if a slot before he found out kemp was leaving.
    • We're hoping to get some answers in the coming weeks
    • From what he's saying on the Pod he's been trying to get out of r1 for a while. Looks like he needed to wait for a show on global to be available. Jordan had bbq last summer with most of thr global execs and he's referenced the deal was in place then. Obviously the hold up was r1 being stubborn
    • All seems to be back to normal this morning.
    • Indeed and Jordan was already friends with Sian Welby, Will Manning and Jimmy Hill.
    • It's great to see those friendships still thriving. I think the days of Radio 1 DJs and Capital DJs being unable to co-exist is long over. You used to either be firmly BBC or commercial, and you don't get the sense that's the case anymore.
    • Maia Beth will be presenting the Radio 1 Happy shows from the 27th April replacing Katie.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ydkr
    • Vick and Jordan together on Insta (with Ariel’s) in Ibiza. You do imagine Jordan’s ex colleagues have a very different attitude to him than management. Comments on Help! And very subtle comments on Capital Breakfast suggest Jordan was frustrated with Radio 1 / BBC management.
    • I can name quite a few people on this forum who would be better presenters than Danny.
