I gave my friend the Maximo Park tickets yesterday, she was so pleased... bless her! :D I can't wait now, it's so good finally being able to talk to her about it, I wanted to mention it so many times before but obviously couldn't, because she didn't know about it.

6 days to Maximo Park!

Just looking at more gigs. The Wombats are playing next month on the day I have a 4:30pm exam, but we think we can make the gig afterwards with time for a takeaway in between. Should be good, just have to check when my other friends have exams because they might not want to come if they have a 9am next day. It's only first year though -- exams aren't that important.

Also looking at The Twang. I've only heard Wide Awake though. Anyone like their other stuff?

Yey to Maximo Park! I've got some other songs by The Twang that I can send you if you like? I might be up for coming to the gig too, depending on when, where, how much etc. :)

Maximo Park and Art Brut last night were truly amazing, possibly the best gig I've ever been to. The first support band were definitely worth missing - just think two crazy Lily Allens crossed with a bunch of 5 year olds let loose on some musical instruments - but Art Brut had so much energy and the lead singer was using the mic cable as a skipping rope, which is something that you don't see very often. The crowd where I was at that point were the dedicated Art Brut fans and the band did well working the crowd and their songs are good too. They finished with a mix of Good Weekend and Formed A Band, which was great.

When Maximo Park came on, the crowd up the front got too crazy and we had to move back a bit. They opened with Graffiti, then played most of the songs off both albums. If you don't have Our Earthly Pleasures yet, you should definitely go out and buy it. It sounds good on the CD, but so much better live. Being in a huge crowd all singing "love is a lie which means I've been lied to, love is a lie which means I've been lying too" is a great feeling. Even though the album has only been out a few weeks, everyone there knew all the words, which was brilliant. They played Going Missing as the last song before the encore, which was amazing, as I love that song. Then they came back on and played Kiss You Better and Parisian Skies before finishing on Limassol.

If you get a chance to see them, definitely go.

:D What she said! ^

Me and my friend were a bit tired and she wasn't feeling too great, so we decided to stand upstairs on the balcony and watch the madness that was happening downstairs, rather than be a part of it.

The gig was excellent though, like Cindy said, they had so much energy and passion which was so cool to see. It's made me want to be in a band! :)

Eddie from Art Brut was quite insistant that we should all start bands. The indie scene is already flooded though. I think I'll keep on with the degree....

    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
    • They knew Roman wanted to leave early last year but wasn't officially announced but he gave them time to sort replacement. Found and offered Jordan a deal in June or July and needed time to get Jordan out of Contract at bbc and roman to do notice  Jordan had dinner with Katie Vick and Arielle to ask advice and all said he should go.
    • And they told Radio 4’s Feedback that it was an ‘experiment’ to ‘look at the best way to serve young listeners’ but reaffirmed that 280 hours commitment.
    • I doubt he wanted to go to Global if a slot before he found out kemp was leaving.
    • We're hoping to get some answers in the coming weeks
    • From what he's saying on the Pod he's been trying to get out of r1 for a while. Looks like he needed to wait for a show on global to be available. Jordan had bbq last summer with most of thr global execs and he's referenced the deal was in place then. Obviously the hold up was r1 being stubborn
    • All seems to be back to normal this morning.
    • Indeed and Jordan was already friends with Sian Welby, Will Manning and Jimmy Hill.
    • It's great to see those friendships still thriving. I think the days of Radio 1 DJs and Capital DJs being unable to co-exist is long over. You used to either be firmly BBC or commercial, and you don't get the sense that's the case anymore.
    • Maia Beth will be presenting the Radio 1 Happy shows from the 27th April replacing Katie.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ydkr
    • Vick and Jordan together on Insta (with Ariel’s) in Ibiza. You do imagine Jordan’s ex colleagues have a very different attitude to him than management. Comments on Help! And very subtle comments on Capital Breakfast suggest Jordan was frustrated with Radio 1 / BBC management.
    • I can name quite a few people on this forum who would be better presenters than Danny.
    • His NYE shows were very good. Only thing I would say is he was shackled down slightly there. During his peak he played some great trance stuff in the late 90s and early 00s. So if he were to do a regular show that would have to feature more. Aside from I'd love to see him back.
