Gigs in 2007

Our guildhall is already no smoking, not that it stops anyone; it's quite hard to enforce.

Bleugh, yeah.

Lyndsey's trousers were nearly set alight by one.

Came home smelling of cigarette smoke, beer (MAJORLY) and pot.

Yum.

Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,

Waiting to take you away.

Hmm, someone just gave me free tickets to go support some local bands in May. Free gig? Yes please!

Sometimes i think these types of gigs are far better than the big bands. Cos you go with pretty much no expectations, so if theyre crap then fair enough, if theyre excellent, then it makes for a really good night. And bands like that appreciate their crowd, genuinely.

At the Little Man Tate gig I went to, they were selling 2 pint glasses of beer. The guys in front of us had 2 of them each. So there was rather a lot of surplus beer which was being thrown about. I was wearing a white t-shirt. Clever...

I saw some small bands recently. We paid a fiver and got to see 4 bands. 2 of them were a bit crap but the first and last one were really good. It's good because it's no more expensive than going to a club and you can discover a great new band out of it. Dartz! are really good, if anyone sees that they're playing. Also you can meet the bands afterwards if you want to, so it's more interactive and personal.

Sadly all alone as far as I know at the minute but have hopes of persuading a friend from down here to come with me...I was going to say I'll wave if I see you but unless you're holding a picture of your avatar I won't see you, of course. :D

Wonder if anyone else from here will end up going?

I thought you said you were oging on the Saturday though? So I wouldn't see you anyway hehe

And I know "Kiwi Lid" is going on the saturday for the who and the view

Not sure when he was online last though... I'll ask him on msn later if it's the saturday he's going

Also, on the topic of smelling of smoke, I hate it when my parents jump to conclusions too.

O yeah - forgot..it's been a hard day, sorry.

It works the other way too with the smoke, I smoked when I was 16/17 but could put on the innocent eyes and say "I only reek because the place was full of smokers". Not that I condone lying to your parents, of course. Just that at that time it seemed necessary.

I'm going to try for the ballot for Live Earth even though I really don't like Madonna. Wonder how many tickets each person will be allowed to buy?

"On July 15th a monumental event is taking place. Not one, not two, but three legendary acts - DAVID ESSEX, THE OSMONDS and THE BAY CITY ROLLERS are going to be appearing on the same bill at the historic Blickling Hall."

Well they've convinced me. I'm there...

My Mum was there last night! Although Showaddywaddy and David Cassidy were also there. Apparently David Cassidy cant sing anymore and the Osmonds arent as hot as they used to be...

Oh also! I went to The Dykeenies instore gig in Glasgow earlier. You may know them, you may not, but theyre a good little band. Being the disorganised people we are, we didnt have time at the beginning of the week to go down and get our wristbands for it, but we went anyway and chanced our luck. But the security guy was lovely and let us in the back :D Apparently we dont look old enough to work for NME... but it was good nonetheless!

    • Do you prefer doing Capital Breakfast to Radio 1 or the other way round?
    • Jesus christ, Olivia Rodrigo was around 3 years ago!?! I thought she was only born in 2019. Anyway. They are doing it to rival commercial networks, on the main 2 lists anyway with rotating them more. Which all in all is a pit of misery. I'm sick to bloody death of Stick Season, it's an utter bag of mediocre wank that makes me even prefer James Blunt circa 2005. Radio 1 still is more expansive however, loved stuff they play and make their own early days, like Jungle Back on 74 like last year.  They can't lose doing stuff that, or else they become bland like everyone else. They have done that for many years though. I heard a song on a March 2001 aircheck from Chris Moyles recently and rediscovered a song by Kings Of Convenience, called Toxic Girl. Totally lost over 25 years but totally love it like it's new. Radio 1 has always played the big time pop stuff since your nan was 3. But they always have and still do throw something on the playlists that isn't what everyone else has. I hope they continue to do that as it sets them apart.
    • I think they are looking too much into this and need to get a proper job where you have to get up at 5am.
    • Zayn's current song isn't on the R1 playlist so would be odd for him to do an interview I guess, not sure either would want it?
    • You have both presented together before your show on Capital. Have you spent time together as friends since, or is the reunion like getting to know one another all over again?   I’m a long time listener in my mid 30s and now outside the R1 target audience age… Chris is into barbecuing and Jordan is into air frying, have you both noticed a change in the other since the days of R1? And are you under any pressure to be on trend at Capital?
    • What do you both miss most about your time at R1?
    • How are you finding the early mornings, and having your afternoons free? Was it easy getting to grips with a different desk and play out system? Do you have any upcoming OBs and anything else exciting planned for the show that you can exclusively share with Unofficialmills? 😀
    • This research is based on the DJs’ voices - pitches, speech rates and fillers like ums and ahs they use - so it’s not affected by sound effects. But yes according to the report Scott is listed as a Radio 2 DJ instead of Radio 1.
    • The playlist has definitely got a bit narrower this year, it feels like. Artists like Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Drake and  Doja Cat seem to be played in every show, even when they’re not on the playlist. Other artists who get a few plays a week, such as Niall Horan, always seem to have the same song played, in his case, Heaven. Whenever they dive into Calvin Harris’ backlog it always seems to be Slide and Promises pulled out, even though they’re two of his least upbeat songs. Most songs they play seem to have been from the 2020s, instead of throwing in a few older hits like Capital does, which is something I think they could do.
    • Jamie Laing out of the schedule for Going Home today - Lauren Layfield in with Katie Thistleton.
    • Bit of a scoop getting an exclusive interview with Zayn, I wonder why he decided not to do Radio 1 too?
    • Who are your favourite artists that are not anywhere close to being on the playlist?   Are there ever songs that make you want to start pulling your hair out (in general, no need to put anyone on blast lol)?
    • Hi to both, miss you loads on radio 1 and hope that you’re doing good at capital 🙏   What was the background to your exits from Radio 1? Do you have any regrets from how it ended?    This one’s more to Jordan, but do you enjoy TV presenting more than radio? What are your targets in TV?
    • I do think if you distracted by talking you wouldn’t put a podcast on in the car. To me unless you used to driving so often that you don’t get distracted and drive for long distances it feels suited to podcasts. I find it odd including Ryan Seacrest or Howard Stern as I don’t know who listens to them in the U.K. Can imagine Chris Evans distracting and annoying on radio in general same for Chris Moyles. I can imagine Scott as not too distracting maybe even in his radio 1 days although if I was a driver I could find Innuendo Bingo or Funny Business distracting based on the humour of the features but Scott’s got a very soft gentle tone of voice doesn’t come across as loud or in your face. I think when you are on in the working day where people maybe listening as said in car, in the office or tradespeople on a job listening to the radio theres a certain style needed
    • Yes, good on you doing your own music blog website. I get that point with the 100% all new music can be alienating but think thats more if the station were to do more totally new bands and artists the thing that new music shows that preceded Jack have always have reflected big artists national and international who have been around for a while be that few years to a decade or two whether playing new stuff from artists to Dua Lipa, Coldplay or Nia Archives. I find its bizarre how music curation has changed a lot in the last decade as what I like of what radio can do well is that ability to hear an audible description of a new artist and information about their music with sense of opinion and thought from the presenter and an interview with the switch to sound features and spotify playlists. It’s not that same magazine effect that Steve Lamarq and Jo Whiley could be an audible magazine show like the NME to Zane Lowe’s radio 1 show complimenting Gonzo which Saunders has revived for MTV
