Hi all. Please answer this. What have they done to Radio 1? Edith needs a move to weekends, or give her a job on a movie channel. I don't listen for movies, where is the correlation there between music and movies.

Give JK And Joel the job before Scott. Somebody like Vernon or Sara could easily do the early breakfast show, or even Nihal permanently.

Failing that stick Fearne and Reggie on mornings and give weekend breakfast to a more capable DJ.

I've grown to like Coxy recently, I would have agreed with you about her being annoying and I couldn't stand her on the breakfast show all those years ago nor when she was on during the afternoons but I have been listening to more of her weekend show as of late.

I don't listen to Edith usually as I tend to be at college then.

well most movies now HAVE songs that end up in the chart in them...

My question is why NOT have something about movies? or other stuff than JUST music?

I STILL hate Cox-ucker

I agree that Edith's show is slanted too much towards movies but I think that's something that management have encouraged and they can easily reduce the focus on movies. I don't care about what movies are out. I appreciate that some people do, but they seem to have overdone it.

Totally argee with you about Edith, she never shuts up about movies and hypes everything up to ridiculous proportions. Coxy is terrible as well, he show is just basically Heat magazine in radio form. Wouldn't mind seeing the back of Vernon and Fearne & Reggie as well.

Totally agree about Vernon who's lost touch already and needs to go to work in middle of the road showbiz - like Edith though, she cheers me up lunchtimes when I escape from work for a while, also like Coxy but then I'm a Mum too - don't see how her chat is any worse than Moyles's constant going on about Sophie, football and Longman. Fearne and Reggie? Never actually heard them but saw them on TV, they seemed like Blue Peter Presenters or something.

UM is a nice place

I Edith (though she does tend to talk about movies alot) but I still like her and think her slot is suitble. Sara Cox is ace and should clearly replace Scott if he goes on holiday. JK and Joel kind of annoy me. I think its the fact they are always on together and I always feel that their discussions are so scripted. Chris Moyles can do no wrong and Fearne and Reg are good too. I've got no real thoughts about Vernon.

I really enjoy the radio one lineup throughout the day. The lineup gives something different every show.... If u listen all day then u know ur gonna hear someting different from every presenter pretty much.... u dont just get the same stuff regurgitated all day...

Where would we be if we did'ht have rules....?

Yeah, but now the schedule is much more organised than it once was:

2.00am Vicky Marsden

4.00am Radio 1's Early Breakfast Show with Scott Mills

6.30am Sara Cox

9.00am Simon Mayo

12.00pm Jo Whiley's Live Lounge

2.00pm Mark and Lard

4.00pm Chris Moyles

6.00pm Dave Pearce

Thats 8 DAYTIME DJS! Now we only have 5...and I think the schedule is much better for it.

I'm not a fan of Jo Whiley at all, i'd rather not hear her during the day. I tend to listen to a couple of CD's during her slot.

In general I like Edith but as a Radio DJ, not so much :( I prefered when it was Colin & Edith. I like a bit of banter :)

I like the idea of whoever suggested Drivetime from 3, I'd like to listen to Scott from 3 :)

just becuase it is organised it dosent mean that it is better for the viewers. back then there was more variety of dj, and the station didn't seem so based around celebs and films etc. also if you didn't like a certain dj then you wouldn't have to wait as long as you do now for them to go off of the air. except for simon mayo, but i thought he was good anyway so i didn't have a problem with him.

one day i can imagine radio 1 to be imitated on those strongbow adverts where they take the pi*s out of cheesyness and crap ringtones.

on the grid.

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
