Hidden in this interview he mentions he's just signed a new contract with Radio 1

"I think as long as you can keep up with what’s going on with its audience, and as long as you are enjoying it and having fun, then you’re good."

I think with sometimes on Scott’s show more informal improvised chats and conversations but with 4hr slots over summer will have bit more to it and feel September the show will have maybe something to keep it fresh is think with the quiz it really gives the podcast a short feel. But it does good at fixing the gap real or no real left

Great to hear, Scott’s show is on top form at the moment, the pandemic allowed him to excel at providing a great distraction from the rest of the world.

Found with opportunities to cover bank holidays and cover prime time slots on Radio 2 as before when he did Claudia On Sunday 19:00-21:00 pre pandemic 19 strictly I think covering Ken Bruce and Steve Wright with bank holidays and 5 Live and Eurovision coverage and getting opportunity to present the chart. Remember at one point there was speculation whether he’d had an offer to do Heart Breakfast. We know Scott’s high talent and an excellent broadcaster you can see the BBC are showing that they want to keep him and is valued member of the BBC. I mean I think ir shows there’s at least quite some work being done to keep key talent in the radio sector of the organisation.

Jordan will be really pleased to hear Scott bigging him up. It's not the first time either. Jordan did come through a similar way to Scott, working his way through commercial radio before making it at the BBC. With his pairing with Vick... unless they want a radical change up once Greg decides to pack up on brekkie, i do think they are the next breakfast hosts.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again Scott Mills is our John Peel. He’ll be in that slot for years to come.

I think his contractual thing with the BBC must be that he won’t do a Sara Cox and sort of gradually shift between Radios 1 and 2 without a regular show on either for a few years.  He’ll have the daily show on R1 until he gets a daily show on R2.

Maybe, but DLT sounded very dated by the end, Mills doesn’t!

David Lee Travis must be way before my time. Think the thing with Mills and Peel comparison it’s hard to do as stylistically are very different people and did very different shows both iconic. I think with Scott been on daytime weekday slot for 20 years maybe the longest person to manage to keep a slot in daytime radio in weekday Prime slots. For this generation hard to think of anyone who’d manage the to succeed Scott on a youth radio station. Of course with adult contemporary it’s different kettle of fish with 2. Think it’s hard to think of a presenter to be such popular for a youth audience for so long and evolve. Feel Scott is almost peerless and unrivalled of how to do such broadcasting which must be applauded with how much changes often in popular culture and the technology trust drives radio

Feel that think once he has a permanent contract for a new show think he may take a transition break between 1 and 2 with a show in the bag and maybe longest break in career. But he’d never work on a temp limbo contract and can’t imagine him dropping Radio 1 for a weekly show like SC did with Sound of The 80’s.

Think probably Lorna and BBC Radio Pop kind of by nature want to promise translations and try to retain its star broadcasters as much like Scott Mills and has done with Trevor Nelson. Think offering Greg James extra podcasts and broadcasting opportunities with cricket and live events is part of that feel see that with Vick.

Katie has missed out on promo but presenting Radio Manchester with cover podcasts and bbc Bitesize bits is atleast keeping her there.

Think BBC will try to do it with firm Favorites on that fits its image as feel like the BBC’s development is shaping what happens at commercial and is trying to softly compete vise versa.

I’m afraid I don’t know enough about previous long standing presenters. I do think, though, that Scott is going to stay at R1 for a long time. His style has evolved over the years and proves that he delivers what the listeners want - he’s guided by what listeners, producers and co-hosts say/do - he’s adaptable. The massive shift I noticed when the pandemic started I think is evidence enough, that when everyone was feeling the strain, Scott upped his game massively to deliver the relief that was needed in ways that I’m not sure other DJs could have pulled off.

My comparison in thinking this is Moyles when he was on R1 and in the ‘experienced presenter’ category - opinionated, crass, and just all about himself and nothing else (just an observation and not necessarily a criticism, because I enjoyed listening to Moyles back in the day)

Completely agree that Lorna will have a good plan for him. Given Scott's nature and the fact he enjoys his work so much as to do 2 shows in a day sometimes, it would be a huge surprise for me to see him having a break (of more than a few weeks) between R1 and R2.

As for the other poster's comparison with DLT... I guess it's closer than Peel due to the focus on entertainment than music, but he's nowhere close to DLT stylistically or in attitude or in any other way!! Not sure there really is a good comparison in R1 history actually, which is what makes him so unique. First non-specialist presenter with SUCH longevity and for him to be still on top form, both creatively and also winning awards, after all these years, is one hell of an amazing feat. Like others on here, during the Moyles / Mills days I found Moyles' show far superior (especially noticeable when Mills covered breakfast), but then Mills continued to grow / improve each year and is by far the best on the network - IMO at least ?

Well with Mill’s show his art is it never stays the same for too long except from bamolao or bangers think knows how to changes it and switch things up. Am actually glad that he never did breakfast perimanently as he would’ve unlikely last so long and feel it wouldn’t be what it is if he did

    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
    • They knew Roman wanted to leave early last year but wasn't officially announced but he gave them time to sort replacement. Found and offered Jordan a deal in June or July and needed time to get Jordan out of Contract at bbc and roman to do notice  Jordan had dinner with Katie Vick and Arielle to ask advice and all said he should go.
    • And they told Radio 4’s Feedback that it was an ‘experiment’ to ‘look at the best way to serve young listeners’ but reaffirmed that 280 hours commitment.
    • I doubt he wanted to go to Global if a slot before he found out kemp was leaving.
    • We're hoping to get some answers in the coming weeks
    • From what he's saying on the Pod he's been trying to get out of r1 for a while. Looks like he needed to wait for a show on global to be available. Jordan had bbq last summer with most of thr global execs and he's referenced the deal was in place then. Obviously the hold up was r1 being stubborn
    • All seems to be back to normal this morning.
    • Indeed and Jordan was already friends with Sian Welby, Will Manning and Jimmy Hill.
    • It's great to see those friendships still thriving. I think the days of Radio 1 DJs and Capital DJs being unable to co-exist is long over. You used to either be firmly BBC or commercial, and you don't get the sense that's the case anymore.
    • Maia Beth will be presenting the Radio 1 Happy shows from the 27th April replacing Katie.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ydkr
    • Vick and Jordan together on Insta (with Ariel’s) in Ibiza. You do imagine Jordan’s ex colleagues have a very different attitude to him than management. Comments on Help! And very subtle comments on Capital Breakfast suggest Jordan was frustrated with Radio 1 / BBC management.
    • I can name quite a few people on this forum who would be better presenters than Danny.
