Yes, I think it would’ve been mentioned if they weren’t going to be London based (like Dean).

I do believe the requirement to have a daytime show outside of London isn’t for a few more years anyway…

Vick and katie do their show from Salford that's why I was wondering if the show would be presented outside of london

It was a completely valid question, I wouldn’t have been surprised if they had decided to send Drive up north, it’ll happen in some iteration on daytimes in the next 5-10 years for sure.  Maybe when Vick and Jordan get Radio 1 Breakfast they’ll move it to Salford!

I believe the guidelines set out earlier this year actually state that all station’s breakfast shows will be staying in London…. which feels like a strange decision as, like you say, a northern duo doing a future breakfast up north would be a real statement.

I’d probably put money on the next afternoon show to be the one that relocates. Cannot see it being the Live Lounge (logistics with artists coming to London), or drive time if they’re planning to mould Vick & Jordan as the next breakfast duo.

I think Radio 2 is a more interesting conversation for which of their shows will move out of London? As that lineup isn’t likely to change anytime soon! To me, the most logical would be a successor to Jeremy Vine & move it to Salford to use 5Live’s resources..

Yes I can see Radio 2’s top talent pretty much refusing to move.  As for Radio 1, if we’re thinking afternoons, maybe Katie gets Scott’s show whenever he moves and does that from Salford?

If we're talking the later end of the timescale for shows to move to other parts of the country.. it could be possible that there will be some movement with either Ken or Steve's slot on Radio 2. OJ Borg i can see moving to daytimes from Salford (where he broadcasts his overnight shows from).

With the Across The UK stuff happening and Dean hosting from Salford, can't Radio 1 technically claim from September that they already fill the '1 key weekday daytime slot quota' as Dean will Friday mid-morning and that would be classed as a 'key weekday daytime slot'

@vortiagreed, but feel that with ‘The Nixtape is something feel that could be replicated if Grimmy did end up going commercial but some of the features playing back and some of the music selections of the nighttime show like classic Major Lazer, Jamie Woon, Drake, Childish Gambino, Boyz Noise etc no station over in commercial allows for such diversity of genres and content in one shows playlist.

As much as I enjoy the BBC’s Radio Music content I’d like to have commercial providing good competition and rivalled choice. Where can hear ex presenters and new presenters delivering less mainstream indie alternative cross genres old and new music. I find John Kennedy’s X Posure good enjoy Jazz FM stuff. Felt when Édith Bowman did Virgin Breakfast when the station relaunched in 2016 did good. But think it would be good if absolute, Virgin, X, Capital be adventurous with their programming

The end of an era: Round 2. Really enjoying this week's shows, especially the nighttime flashbacks and the music, looking forward to tomorrow.

Me too, it's been so good hearing a 'Grimmy greatest hits' - both features and music! I really like that's he's been allowed to play all his favourite tracks, reminds me what good musical taste he has, all the good stuff from the nighttime show and more. I've loved listening to all his shows over the years and am really going to miss him.

Some people forget he was a specialist DJ before breakfast. Those that criticise on social media saying "i stopped listening to R1 when he joined", forgetting he started 5 years before on Sundays then the evening show. As Chris Stark put it, he's "completed Radio 1". Sunday nights with Annie Mac, Weekend Breakfast, late night, breakfast and drive, he's had a good run  and sounds like he's made the decision himself leaving with goodwill on both sides.

Will he eventually turn up elsewhere i wonder? I can certainly see him popping up on the TV more now.

Time flies.

I first heard Grimmy when he took over the breakfast show in September 2012, which coincided with me listening to daytime Radio 1 much more than I had done previously. I was initially skeptical, as he was replacing Chris Moyles, who was the DJ that sparked my interest in radio, but over the years, my appreciation of Nick has grown as I've listened more and more and his show is a really enjoyable listen.

In retrospect, Grimmy's fresh sound was exactly what Radio 1 needed at the time in order to revitalise the station and put the pulse of modern music culture back into the breakfast show.

I'll be sad to see him go, as his time on Radio 1 has soundtracked an important time in my life, but I'm also excited to hear the new era of the station.

Yes much completed radio 1 weekend and weekday breakfast, drive, the sort of later night slot Sunday evenings etc. He pretty much done what he came to do now Radio X would be an interesting one. I still think they could do like with heart Virgin smooth etc having spin off stations. Anthems (XCITE) including stuff also from classic electronic indie deeper sounds XPosure New Music keeping, Chilled X some one like Phil Taggart to do that and keeping Radio X more for entertainment shows like Ed Gamble & Matthew Crosby, Johnny Vaughan, Danny Wallace

I do feel with BBC Radio they freshen things up and keep moving things in a fresh and exciting direction with giving opportunities to Dean McCullough, Jamz Supernovs, Jordan North to grow through the the stations and given their chances at the BBC with the exception of MistaJam I do find when broadcasters move out of the BBC or when reshuffles happen it’s eminent that when the commercial sector should provide quality completion it’s lacking to give opportunities to saturation of talent and new talent coming through

It’s sad isn’t it. I was never the biggest Grimmy fan. But I’ll admit he was a bit asset to the station. His early breakfast stuff want that bad. He just had a tough act to follow. I’m gonna miss him. It blows that Annie and Nick are going back to back but I guess that’s nice they’re leaving around  the same time. Also makes me think they’ve had a new show offer.

I find odds to me somewhere like Virgin (Wireless) would be higher to somewhere at Heart FM Global needs to rebuff themselves. Find with some of spin off stations are lacking the presenter connecting with music and providing speciality music and Entertianment shows.

Remember if he didn’t get Xfactor at the time he could’ve had TGI Fridays

I do find that he could do podcasting and that but think commercial is lacking station that can do free flowing Entertianment and non news Talk Entertianment shows.

Find that’s the thing sometimes the funny thing that @bluestreak was right to highlight is that how we can say ‘x’ should be off drive and other presenter in is that we know we won’t hear the presenter doing a show that sounds like that or as bold and impactful elsewhere. Think sometimes when the BBC does departures shows that there’s a thing that commercial stations don’t have. It’s never as big as when some one leaves any station in commercial and it always seems a poignant moment sight presenters at BBC with BBC Radio 1 very in particular think Radio 2 and some Radio 6 shows would spark reaction.

But often do find that sometimes those quick and sharp exits at BBC Radio can be reaction of influence of Bbc Radio 1

Grimmy's been chatting with Annie Mac on her podcast about quitting Radio 1.

https://www.irishnews.com/magazine/entertainment/2021/11/01/news/nick-grimshaw-discusses-his-decision-to-leave-radio-1-with-annie-mac-2494620/

He said his time on the station had "ran its course".

It could be the case like with Shaun Keaveney’s departure and Nemone and Kershaw at 6 music only used for semi regular series and cover that there could’ve been a budge to regenerate some of the schedule and an idea for Grimshaw to move on. Will listen to it later guess there’s nothing much to read into this but possibly a lesser role was offered or when Annie was leaving and figures like Dev and Alice that felt done what he needed to do.
