I don't understand the continued talk of Grimmy leaving - he had the second longest running breakfast show on Radio 1, he must be doing something right. I hope he stays for a long time yet - he's the best daytime Radio 1 presenter in my opinion. He's funny, sassy, knowledgeable with music and knows what's going on in popular culture - why would he leave?

I think it’s good for the station a youth station to have presenters on air that are on top of youth popular culture and able to talk about topical and cultural matters that are more relatable to the public think he came from an era when it seemed the station knew what meant by a youth demographic and out of daytime presenters actually interested in playing more newer music of alternative, hip hop, dance which reaches the Generation Z and represent a more youthful sound

Grimmy's show is good, however when you compare it to what else they have, namely Jordan's, it pales in comparison. They'll probably want him to stick around if he did move off the afternoon. Greg is more than capable of knowing about cultural matters, he does it on every one of his shows.

I see so much speculation about him going, I just get the feeling maybe he’s safe on Drive for longer.  We all assumed it was a temporary slot for him before further demotion when he swapped with Greg, and here he is, and the quality of his show has definitely increased.

Suggested something like this in the chatbox for sometime soon. Slots not on there stay the same.

Weekdays*

10:30-1 Vick Hope

3:30-6 Jordan North

6-8 Clara Amfo

8-10 Nick Grimshaw & Annie Mac

Friday-Sunday

Rickie & Melvin replace Adele Roberts

 Katie Thistleton replaces Jordan North

Annie Mac & Danny Howard swap slots

Adele Roberts moves to the Sunday 4-7 slot (Surgery type show with Dr Rhada). First Look remains 6-7

*At first, Clara moves to The One Show to cover Alex Jones with Vick Hope taking the mid-morning slot and Katie solo on Sundays. When Clara returns, the rest of the changes take place.

I think Grimmy sounds great on afternoons, much better than his breakfast show. My only complaint is I'd rather he did 4 til 7. The 5.45 finish still seems too abrupt.

Feels like this site is a bit too caught up on fantasy schedules and departures at the moment!

Indeed, there has been so many departures and changes in the past year, i think Aled has a strong schedule across the week. Not a huge fan of the changes to show starts/finishes but they obviously have their reasons for doing so. Scott's departure in particular has been predicted time and time again for what feels like an age, with no sign of him going anywhere, and rightly so.

I personally found he was good in breakfast it is a tough slot to do the poison chalice of all radio shows. But think some of the suggestions of moving him to later in the evenings are odd as he is one of the few who do actually seem in touch with youth popular culture and and engages with entertainment news and does feature most guests out of all daytime shows

I feel like it was an essential move to move Annie Mac to more earlier slot as do think there needs to be more mix of specialist shows and specialist songs played within peak listening times. But to start and end the breakfast show so late seems odd

They told us why... because of COVID listening habits have changed, no longer is there a mad commute at 7/730 by car which was the massive listener base in the mornings, 90% of the UK is WFH and many firms are staying as WFH models as they have found it works so well, and saves costs of renting masses of office space when they can just hire conference facilities when they need, therefore more people aren't getting up than before COVID, ergo not listening at 6.30 anymore, more likely listening at 730/8am

(My Mrs used to get up at 0530 to leave at 7 for work in the car now she gets up at 645 to start WFH at 830 - see the difference)

They also had to deal with the evening listeners not commuting home at the same time, and more likely listening to Annie earlier, so they had to move her earlier as well, now Grimmy catches the teens off the school run as well as the 5pm commuters who may have him on at 5 past 5 in the kicthen after their commute down the stairs while preping dinner as opposed to having him on 530 - 630 while driving home or on the train

Does this make sense to you?

Scott's departure is speculated all the time, it's like Moyles in about 2008 when they speculated it, I wish people would jjst leave him alone and enjoy the radio he does, when he does finally leave, it will be straight to Radio 2 so we won't loose him, he's in a kind of waiting room at the moment waiting the "slot" to come up on R2

But as said it was about time that they moved Annie’s specialist music show to an earlier time still don’t get why an later breakfast start and end as it doesn’t make an overall difference to the listener. It was long over due to have specialist in corporates in the week but did find the start and end times of other daytime shows means without change to the actual content or format of the show that listeners would have to adjust to new start and ends it still think to some listeners an odd to switch the end of Scott’s show and that

Thing is their listeners in terms of demographic would be the school, university, college, apprentice and start up and early in the career. Think less needs to be around the start end times but building content and adapting it to provide more interesting and engaging slot within the schedule

Peak morning listening time has moved to the 10:30-10:30 block, so having Greg James on air at that time makes perfect sense. Annie's slot was moved to 6pm to bring the hottest record in the world (and her show in general) to a more primetime audience, as part of their commitment to bringing through new music and artists. Potentially some slight cost saving in the process too (finishing live programming an hour earlier, and starting live daytime programming an hour later)

But is it delivering for its audience just don’t see a necessity to adjusting Greg James breakfast show time as feel like that Clara is equally a big name on the station since shows that time relatively the same it was a pointless decision if it isn’t a content or format change when adjusting the time or broadcasting Annie’s show which I would’ve moved to more of a morning 9-11 am show but that’s what I’d do. Think there wasn’t real purpose in it when over night is delivering less and less for its listeners should atleast do more on actually having more specialist allotted time to 3 AM extended by an hour otherwise there is a loss in delivering new and emerging music. Better than playing the sort of hits mixes that they do

Clara isn't as big a name today as Greg... Yes she is important to the station for various reasons, but a feature-laden breakfast show is much better suited for a later start / finish in today's slightly later-time world. IMO her show is the least entertaining of all daytime, but I guess that's by design as she really does very few features and just focuses on the music.

While I completely disagree that a new-music show from 9-11 would be good (and I'm certain it will never happen), I do agree that R1 could do more in the mornings to be distinctive. Arguably Scott's show in particular stands out as unique and not like any commercial competition in that slot, but Clara's - aside from being ad-free - isn't exactly unique compared with the alternatives...

do agree lack of uniqueness I find that with Greg’s breakfast show arguably but don’t get the matter of the idea that Greg is a bigger name as Clara. I don’t get how when would’ve been with same features at previously allotted time slot would’ve been any more different for the listener experience I find if having maybe a breakfast show with 3 hours duration and at between 6-9 seems more when people sre actively getting up and start the day can deliver distinct quality fresh entertaining wake up then would think a show that would be more music driven and maybe also embedded stuff played on best new pop and specialist music could follow as it would be delivering.a mid morning music show distinct from competition and actually keep bit more of that peak audience if speaking to big names and dropping new tracks as think something like that would be great especially with New Music Friday keep it exciting even potentieilly get Jack Saunders/Annie/Clara. Then with that could afford the Drive slot or Afternoon feature few listener fsvourite anthems

know sometimes online Twitter or other social media’s want station to play more new music from favourite artists or some artists that don’t get played on the station who are coming from young people feel it could be a way of giving something that is in a morning not like what any other station does.
