I was thinking today about what would make me keep my radio on all day locked to Radio 1 like the glory days of 2005-2009 (i would listen to everyone) So outta the current crop I'd go with this line up:

0400-0700 Arielle Free

0700-1000 Greg James

1000-1245 RMC

1300-1600 Scott and Chris

1600-1900 Jordan North (Fridays Chart Mills)

1900-2100 Jack Saunders

2100-2200 Mix of something different every night

2200-0000 Clara Amfo

I personally think Clara suits the Live Lounge show well. It has been a single headed, music heavy show since Jo Whiley took over in 2001. It sits nicely in the middle of the workday, inbetween two entertainment led shows. Same goes for Annie Mac. When she took over from Zane Lowe, i did associate her as a dance specialist but i think she fitted in nicely, and based off Aled's commitment to moving her show to a more primetime audience, i think she's going to be there (and rightly so) for a few more years.

The strongest weekday schedule imo is the same as now except:

04:00/05:00-07:00 Adele Roberts staying put. I don't get to listen all that often, but i think she's fully in tune with her "Early Morning Crew".

And of course Jordan on drive, which i can see being brought forward soon.

I totally agree with the leaving Adele where she is, BUT and a massive but... she has been on earlies since 2015 5 years

I know the start time has moved to 5am so she can get up effectively an hour later, however as a shift worker myself, I know what a toll 3/4 4am starts can have on me, so how she does it daily, and being the person she is she was actually up around 2am, and often going out for a run etc before work, going to bed at 6/7pm most nights, must all take it's tole

So as much as I'd like her to stay, she deserves a lie in, and weekend breakfast (if I was her) is a happy medium, means she can now get up at 5/530am twice a week, it doesn't really ruin a weekend and it leaves her open to be able to cover weekday slots

What will be interesting is A. who'll be the cover for Dance Anthems now Charlie who became the cover is now the host, will we see Arielle covering or will we see one of the weekday presenters covering? I'd love to see Scott do a shift covering it or Greg

To be honest I’d say the best they could do, in my opinion is:

5:00am-7:00am: Arielle Free

7:00am-10:30am: Greg James

10:30am-12:45pm: Annie Mac

1:00pm - 3:30pm: Scott Mills

3:30pm - 5:45pm: Jordan North

6:00pm - 8:00pm: Jack Saunders

8:00pm - 10:00pm: RMC

Not much love for Mister Grimshaw on this thread so far ,,,

Tbf, despite the stick he gets from the general public, i do think he's good at what he does. He's a good DJ. However, he worked his way up from weekend breakfast/Sunday nights, through to evenings, then the second longest breakfast show. There's nowhere else to go now, apart from back to weekends. When the move to drive came, i did enjoy the show and it did start off with some good new features, but personally for me it's now suffering from the same fate his breakfast show did towards the end. Apart from when they have a guest on here and there, the show only has a handful of features which have become a bit stale. Especially with Jordan's rising profile, i think it's now perfect time for a change. Even if it is a direct swap in the interim.

I’d take Annie 10-1 absolutely! She was great on it before when she covered

maybe Charlie won’t have dance anthems cover... I’m pretty sure Danny just prerecord off he was going to be off... don’t recall ever having cover for him?

Did Greg and Scott not cover for him a few times?

Scott, Annie and Mike Wooller covered for Danny during his time on Dance Anthems.

Mike Wooller covered in August 2015 and did the usual features inc push the tempo future anthem and in the mix

Scott covered in Jan 2013, looks like he didn't do the features, just bac2back anthems like a Party Anthems show with what was in the system

Looking back at the Friday edition, during 2009/10/11 quite a few times "Ready for the weekend" or "Floor Fillers" was covered by others quite a bit, Greg covered most of the time, and Dev, Sara and Vernon as well, there is a four week period in 2010, so I wonder if that was two weeks Scott covered breakfast and then had his own leave

I know he was covering for Moyles before he shot the programme about staying with the Hoff as he went from R1 to Heathrow for the flight

    • Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.
    • To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?
    • It’s Jamie’s dream of a lifetime to be a full time Radio 1 presenter apparently, but he can only do it 2 or 3 days a week.
    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
