Christmas Schedule Predictions 2020

The annual thread has come back round again, and before the Christmas schedule is properly announced at the end of November/start of December, it’s always fun to see what everyone will predict the schedule to be. This is my prediction this year:

Monday 21st - Thursday 24th:

4:00 Arielle Free
7:00 Greg James
10:30 Adele Roberts
1:00 Scott Mills
3:30 Grimmy
6:00 Phil Taggart
8:00 As normal

Christmas Day:

4:00 Adele Roberts (pre-record)
7:00 Jordan North
10:30 Official Chart with Scott Mills
1:00 Artist Takeovers
6:00 Usual Friday night line up

Boxing Day - Wednesday 30th:

Student Takeovers

New Years Eve:

Student Takeovers
5:00 Arielle Free
9:00 Jordan North (NYE party show)

New Years Day:

4:00 Arielle Free (pre-record)
7:00 Matt and Mollie
10:30 Jordan North
1:00 Dev
4:00 Official chart with Scott Mills/chart of year

January 2nd + 3rd

As normal

January 4th - 7th:

4:00 Adele Roberts
7:00 Matt and Mollie
10:30 Clara Amfo
1:00 Dev
3:30 Jordan North
6:00 As normal

I don’t think that we’ll have a Scott Mills breakfast show this year due to the fact that Christmas falls on a Friday! Meaning that he’ll probably be doing the chart instead, I also can’t see there being that many changes compared to normal, mainly because the schedule has become more compact this year, so not needing as many cover presenters. What does everybody else think?

21st - 24th December

4-7 Arielle Free (or Adele Roberts)

7-10 Matt + Mollie

10.30-12.45 Adele Roberts (or Arielle Free)

13-15.30 Scott Mills (or Vick + Katie?)

15.30-17.45 Jordan North

Christmas day

4-7 Arielle Free

7-10 Jordan North

10-16 Some kind of takeover

16-18 The Official Chart with Scott Mills

Boxing day & 27th December, 28th - 30th December

Student takeover?

31th December

Probably half student takeover, half Scott Mills, Charlie Hedges, Arielle Free or Jordan North.

1st January

Probably a normal Friday schedule with Scott Mills doing chart.

In conclusion, not that different from last year. Btw, Dev has announced his last show is happening weekend before Christmas, so there will be no Dev during holiday period :(

21st - 24th
4-7: Arielle Free or Adele Roberts. Could even be Katie Thistleton?
7-10.30: Unlikely to be Matt & Mollie, but still could be? Greg James or Scott & Chris?
10.30-12.45/13.00: Again Katie Thistleton or Adele Roberts? Not going to be Clara I don't think.
13-15.30: Scott Mills or what about Harpz Kaur?
15.30-17.45/18.00: Jordan North, again wouldn't be Grimmy I don't think.

Christmas Day:
4-7: Arielle Free
7-10: Scott Mills
10-16: Artist Takeover
16-18: Office Chart with Jordan North
ps. could 7-10.30 and 16-18 change?

Student takeover, really hope it's not anthems....

31st December:
4-13: Student takeover
13-17: Scott Mills with Dance
17-21: Charlie Hedges or Jordan North with Dance

Here's my thoughts/predictions for the festive period.

21st-24th (Xmas Eve)

04:00-05:00 Radio 1 Dance

05:00-07:00 Adele Roberts or Arielle Free

07:00-10:30 Matt & Mollie

10:30-13:00 Clara Amfo (Newsbeat 12:45-13:00 21st-23rd)

13:00-15:30 Scott & Chris

15:30-18:00 Jordan North (Newsbeat 17:45-18:00 21st-23rd)

18:00-00:00 (as normal)

Christmas Day will probably (in my opinion) be:

04:00-05:00 Radio 1 Dance

05:00-07:00 Early Breakfast with Arielle (Pre-record)

07:00-10:00/10:30 Radio 1 Breakfast with Jordan North (Live)

10:00/10:30-13:00 Official Christmas Chart with Scott Mills (Live~ based off 2015 when the chart last fell on Christmas day, it aired in this time slot and if so, it's possible the top 40 could be broadcast in full if this is the case)

13:00-18:00 Pre-Recorded 'takeovers' (as per previous years

18:00-20:00 Radio 1's Dance Party with Annie Mac (pre-record)*

20:00-22:00 Danny Howard (pre-record)*

22:00-00:00 Pete Tong (pre-record)*

*If the normal Friday night shows are on, albeit pre recorded, they'll likely be 'best of Radio 1 Dance/look forward to 2021 themed shows'

Alternatively, the pre recorded takeovers may well run from 10:00 or 10:30 until 4pm, with the chart with Scott live from 4pm-6pm.

26th (Boxing Day)- 31st Dec (NYE)

From 05:00 Boxing Day through to 13:00 on NYE will be the guest presenters selected to host over the festive period.

NYE:

04:00-05:00 Radio 1 Dance/one of the other 'made for BBC Sounds' playlists.

05:00-13:00 (Early Breakfast 5-7, R1 Breakfast 7-10:30, R1 Anthems 10:30-13:00... all will likely be Anthems themed, and hosted by those who were selected (from student/local/commercial radio) to host over the festive period.

13:00-17:00 Radio 1's Dance Anthems with Scott & Chris (Live)

17:00-21:00 Radio 1 Dance Anthems with Charlie Hedges (Live)

21:00-01:00 Radio 1 Dance Anthems with Jordan North (Live)

NYD:

04:00-05:00 Radio 1 Dance

05:00-07:00 Riyadh Khalaf as a possibility, he has done a fair bit of early brekkie cover this year

07:00-10:30 Matt & Mollie (or either one of them alone)

10:30-13:00 Jordan North

13:00-16:00 Katie Thistleton (inc. party anthems)

16:00-18:00 Official Chart with Scott Mills

18:00-00:00 as per a normal Friday (albeit pre recorded).

2nd/3rd January normal weekend schedule with 13:00-16:00 (except with Dev gone by this point), likely filled by Katie Thistleton.

Then the new schedule kicks in from Monday 4th.

On a seperate note, it wouldn't surprise me if Scott did the double again appearing on both Radio 1 and Radio 2 on New Years Eve as per last year.

Part of Radio 1's Christmas day schedule has been revealed.

Quote from the article:

"For the British Forces Broadcasting Service Christmas Takeover Radio 1 is going to hand over four hours of Christmas Day to four bases around the world to give their troops the opportunity to send Christmas messages to their families back at home in the UK"

This sounds good.  Will make a change to the usual artist/celebrity takeovers they've done for the past number of years.

I wonder when the press pack will be announced that has information about what will be on all the radio stations over Christmas will be announced? It’s normally around the same time as the TV one and that happened yesterday so I’d imagine that it will be at some point this week. I also don’t think it will be very long before the schedule starts to get announced either.

Points for anyone who said Matt Edmondson at 7.00 Arielle at 10am. Scott at 1pm and Jordan at 4 for pre Christmas week Full schedule to follow

I got 3 of the daytime slots right lol. I personally thought Adele would do pre Xmas week earlies before moving to weekends, but makes sense that Katie is doing them. Greg & Grimmy usually take two weeks off at Christmas, so Jordan being on drive was a given. Interesting that they're altering the show times to 3 hours each. Is Drivetime finishing at 7 during that week?

Ahh. Fair enough. Assuming it's still going ahead, surely we'll hear about this years set of new presenters between Boxing Day and New Years Eve soon...

Looking at the Christmas Eve into Christmas day schedule, looks like they've edged the early breakfast show out of the schedule. There's a Christmas Mixtape type hour showing for the 5am hour.

    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
    • They knew Roman wanted to leave early last year but wasn't officially announced but he gave them time to sort replacement. Found and offered Jordan a deal in June or July and needed time to get Jordan out of Contract at bbc and roman to do notice  Jordan had dinner with Katie Vick and Arielle to ask advice and all said he should go.
    • And they told Radio 4’s Feedback that it was an ‘experiment’ to ‘look at the best way to serve young listeners’ but reaffirmed that 280 hours commitment.
    • I doubt he wanted to go to Global if a slot before he found out kemp was leaving.
    • We're hoping to get some answers in the coming weeks
    • From what he's saying on the Pod he's been trying to get out of r1 for a while. Looks like he needed to wait for a show on global to be available. Jordan had bbq last summer with most of thr global execs and he's referenced the deal was in place then. Obviously the hold up was r1 being stubborn
    • All seems to be back to normal this morning.
    • Indeed and Jordan was already friends with Sian Welby, Will Manning and Jimmy Hill.
    • It's great to see those friendships still thriving. I think the days of Radio 1 DJs and Capital DJs being unable to co-exist is long over. You used to either be firmly BBC or commercial, and you don't get the sense that's the case anymore.
    • Maia Beth will be presenting the Radio 1 Happy shows from the 27th April replacing Katie.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ydkr
    • Vick and Jordan together on Insta (with Ariel’s) in Ibiza. You do imagine Jordan’s ex colleagues have a very different attitude to him than management. Comments on Help! And very subtle comments on Capital Breakfast suggest Jordan was frustrated with Radio 1 / BBC management.
    • I can name quite a few people on this forum who would be better presenters than Danny.
