Report on Radio today that all Pop stations will have one controller, rumored to be Ben Cooper https://radiotoday.co.uk/2019/04/bbc-to-create-single-role-to-control-radio-1-and-radio-2/

This could open the door for more change to schedules and presenter roles, and could ease Scott's transition to R2

Oh god that sounds awful. So it sounds like they’d be playing more modern stuff on Radio 2 and 6music. Which would go down horribly with listeners I imagine. So long as they don’t kill popmaster!

This is so very W1A. The directors at the BBC are once again looking very out-of-touch with their audiences.

It's the label "BBC Pop Music" that upsets me more than the proposal. Asian Network is hardly pop, I doubt the listeners of 6Music would call their music that, and Radio 1 is intended to be more about "new music".

It’s a massive sweeping generalisation isn’t it — from the way I look at it this could be terrible or good, it’s just an odd change, never would have predicted it.

I thought they were actually moving towards a BBC youth strand - mixing Radio 1, 1Xtra and BBC Three. Which sounded less terrible than this idea.
