Scott on daytime BBC Radio 2

I'm normally listening to Dance Anthems this time, I'm not that familiar with Radio 2 or this show, but on his own right he's great as always.

And until around 5:40 he managed not to say Radio1 instead of 2, that impressive. :)

Rather enjoyed it for a Radio 2 stint. The music was just right for listeners tuning in from Radio 1 and he had enough callers to ensure he had enough to work with.

He was clearly in his element talking to Sally Traffic.

Whether Scott could bring a show like he has now to Radio 2 remains to be seen, but for a cover stint it was a good performance.

I missed it!! But let’s be real look at someone like Zoe Ball’ or Sara Cox’s Wikipedia’s you see they did cover then an odd show then weekends than daytime. So Scott could be following the train to Radio 2. Which would be a shame as he’s been at Radio 1 for 20 years now. He’s by far the longest running daytime dj either him or Greg anyway.  Both seem to be pushing to Radio 2 now. Which is a shame as they have been the ones that kept me there

Much rather he stayed with the BBC than crashed out to commercial radio though.

I too missed it - I thought it was Sunday he was on - but good to read the positive feedback on here. Obviously I’d like Scott to stay at Radio 1 for a long time yet but good to know the path is being made clear for him at Radio 2. Listen Again is on later.

he's already been there 20 years and he's 45 years old, it's amazing he's lasted on a radio station targeting 16-24s this long.  shows what you can do when you remain relevant to the audience.

I listened to the whole show and thought he was absolutely briliant, at home, on target and sounded amzingly different but the same if that makes sense

I felt it was more "him" as in he was being himself more and we heard more of his personality coming out as opposed to quick fire segs on R1 and links

I reckon he spoke for more time yesterday on R2 than he has done on R1 for a long time

He showed a "mature" approach and adapted well but still some of the Scott we know and love coming out

If i was to vote it was a yassss from me, bring him on again and I would even go as far to say, if he moved to R2 I would quit R1 and not even bother with Greg anymore

Loved the bants with Sally Traffic and loved the music, seemed more up his street than R1 ever does and even he commented that it wasnt constant Drake i think in a link

I tweeted him with some love after as well and had a reply which made my day

Unless you're called Annie Nightingale or Pete Tong, you can't stay on R1 forever and it's comforting to know that whenever Scott leaves he hopefully moves no further than R2.

I think he has at least 3 years on R1 afternoons, and even after that he could stay on the chart alongside having an R2 show and make it to 25 years at R1. (At least I hope so because he's also the best chart presenter R1 had in a really long time.)

i don't know what made you think to post this but it's just not true and shows a complete lack of understanding, and its just vicious..  radio 2 is good at being radio 2.  yes it has some people on it who aren't great as traditional radio DJs (rylan), but they don't want that.  if anything it's getting more modern and less bogged down in the past, while still appealing to a wide older age range.  scott will do very well there.  people need to stop attacking stuff just because personally it isn't for them.  by all means criticise anything you want, but constructively, don't attack stuff for the sake of it.  sorry if i sound a bit annoyed, i'm not, it just triggered me a bit.

It was a joke! I’ll delete the post if needs be. I thought it was funny  . Sorry for triggering you @Mike123

I’m guessing from the tone of it, that the whole thing is a joke and is based on the fact that Radio 2 has changed quite a lot in the last few years and the fact that quite a lot of people aren’t that happy about it. I don’t think it’s anything to get too annoyed about.

It’s a joke post I saw on twitter from another forum digital spy. I just wanted to get a laugh out of people that’s all.

The part with Fearne is perfect, I'd totally listen to that! But Jo Whiley's Shortest Show Ever sounds interesting too. :D

Listening back to some of my old recordings of Scott from the mid 2000's has made me realise he's done 21 years on Radio 1, what other daytime jock can say they have done that? Incredible really and well earned. Radio 2 seem to be adapting well to welcome his listeners if he makes the permanent switch, I heard Jo Whiley playing Wu Tang Clan's Gravel Pit earlier so why not. Then saying that, that track is now 18 years old!

on the grid.

    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
