What's your favourite moment from the Scott Mills show... ever!

I was thinking about this earlier, what has been your favourite piece of Scott Mills show history? There's plenty to choose from since 2004 - whether it's 24 Years at the Tap End, Laura's Diary, the Scott Mills Musical or maybe it's just one of those random moments on-air. Leave your thoughts below.

“You’re fattest”, “No, your fattest!” with Charlie Sloth, followed by a whopper (WHOOOO!) from Charlie then, him being wheeled out the studio. The incident with Matt Edmondon that finished the feature was both a shame and funny. The less said about Mr Sloths departure the better!

Good Riddens to Sloth.

Matt filled in for Scott and did the feature one day. As they were wheeling Sloth out, they caught the ‘big red’ reset button and took R1 off air. Judging by the way Matt was when they came back on air 20 minutes later (they went to emergency music) it was clear that wasn’t planned. Matt a while later admitted what had happened.

If the nighttime hours of the Lolathons count, I'd pick those few hours with all the DJs telling dirty jokes together.

If it has to be daytime stuff, I was considering the Perfect Christmas Single, the Fun & Filth Cabaret, the Trapped in The Closed Hip-Hopera and Real or No Real, especially Fat Tuesdays.

*in chart voice* But who's gonna be number 1? ...it's Go On Pigs! https://youtu.be/cMOra2eMxh0?t=367

This is gold, how could I miss this.

  • 2 months later...

His times with Chappers and Laura, although I do still listen from time to time nowdays if I'm in the car.

Laura's diary was fantastic. But as a one off's those prank calls were brilliant. I remember Radio 1 were going really annoyingly OTT with Mika circa early 2007, I frankly can't stand his music. Scott did a call to an estate agent pretending to be him doing a "rendition" of Grace Kelly which is in the archives on here and worth a listen.

There's also "Brokeback Westwood", which left my sides hurting whilst everyone was looking at me like I'd gone mad whilst listening on the bus back home from Wolverhampton.

on the grid.

    • As positives go, at least Danny said what the last song played was and upcoming song played was. Plus I guess in that link are perhaps ideas for content (asking listeners to come up with bands from things around them, things that have happened to them this week). That's where's the positives end. It comes across as no thought has gone into what Danny will say next. It gives me proper flashbacks to some Jamie Laing links (especially that one show where he was unexpectedly solo). It's ironic that for all the duos and trios on the station - the one show and DJ that is positively crying out for another DJ to help show them the ropes is left all solo. At least with Jamie Laing they learnt their lesson and he's not been left solo since.
    • How he was just faded out at the end of the link reminded me of the Oscars music fading you out
    • RPReplay_Final1713612277.mp4   You’re welcome
    • At a time when Radio 1 has surely lost listeners to Capital at Breaktast you’d be trying to protect the station so people switch back.  Certainly yesterday I didn’t switch back to Radio 1 at all.
    • Was abysmal…Surely Danny can’t be a contender for anything permanent when the new schedules are locked in I.e Matt and Mollies slot
    • Alexandra Burke creating the phrase 'Elephant In The Room' whooooooooo
    • Zane Versus.... Whooooooooo. Do You Do Fridays? WhooOOOooo.
    • The Capital Breakfast show is right up my street so far - such a fun listen. You've both been great on Radio 1 and are sounding excellent again on Capital A few quickfire questions: You've both been part of some great pairings on radio and on podcast - what goes into making a duo or trio work and sound great on air? Also, Chris - were there ever any discussions about you moving over to Radio 2 with Scott or had the Global offer already come first? Also how do you both go about managing that split between your radio 'you' and the private 'you'? You share a lot on air but also there's some understandably some stuff you keep private (famously Jordan doesn't 'talk about those things'). And how do you make sure if you're having a miserable day or are a bit low that it doesn't come across too much on air?
    • What a nightmare link at 11.15am this morning. Spent 30 seconds waffling about the name of The Last Dinner Party as if he’d never heard it before, then started mentioning Capital and the license fee, and how it’s been used to pay for him to be there, and was then cut off by the start of the next song.
    • Have been reading this all week. She's such a brave woman. Just got to the chapter where she explains why she missed Scott's leaving event at Radio 1. She talks about leaving Radio 1 because her mum's health got worse, and wanting to quietly leave radio at 44 just how she first arrived on the airwaves at 18. Worth a read!
    • Frozen Indigo Angel... Whoooooooo?!!
    • Did it take a lot of tempting to go to Capital Jordan? Did you feel like you’d achieved everything you could at Radio 1 (other than breakfast)? Chris, how did your Capital move come about? Did Radio 1 want you to stay after Scott moved on?

    • I never expected to be enjoying a commercial radio Breakfast Show, but this is a good listen and less adverts than I might have expected.
    • It's got more of a Fri/ Sat feeling to it, for me. But there's nothing inherently wrong with the show.
