How R1 Shows are titled

Whenever there is loads of cover on R1 I always find it proper confusing how they title the shows...

Do you think the show should remain the same with "sits in" in the subtitle or do you think the cover DJs show title should be used:

E.G: When Jordan covers Adele, should it be...

 

Adele Roberts

Jordan North Sits in

OR

Jordan North

Jordan Sits in for Adele

 

I always thought the first one made more sense if Jordan is doing Adele's features such as new music friday or best new pop because then it means that all of this falls into the same section on iPlayer in catch up. I don't know, R1 just seem to be all over the place with how they are titling stuff at the moment anyway.

I agree, it’s especially annoying when a Will Best situation happens, when he first started covering Adele, the show was labelled Adele Roberts - Will Best sits in 

But then on the most recent cover he did, he had his own name, and not Adele Roberts, at least show some consistency Radio 1, But then that’s typical of R1 at the moment, but that’s for another thread

Yes I agree. I think the consistency has been horrendous recently. 

 

Especially regarding cover DJs, I feel the BBC have allowed to many key people at R1 to have time off at once. It means we are getting random shows all the time.

Least this was consistent but I still think it has been done wrong. 

It should be.....

Jordan Sits in for Matt & Mollie. 

 

 

I just then thing when they are doing show features like "Get Your Clips Out" or "Best New Pop" the iPlayer version goes into the right show category so people can find it.

Lots of slight name changes to the shows:

The Radio 1 Takeover

Radio 1's Future Sounds with Annie Mac

Radio 1's Hype Chart with Phil Taggart

Annie Nightingale Presents...

Radio 1's Soundsystem with Toddla T

Annie Mac on Friday

 

Also Radio 1 and 1Xtra's Stories appears to be coming back onto the air in place of 'The Radio 1 Takeover' in a couple of weeks.

Annie’s Friday show is now ‘Radio 1’s Dance Party with Annie Mac’. 

I guess this all to make the shows stand out on the BBC Sounds app which has programmes and podcasts from across the BBC.

Surprised Radio 1 Breakfast didn’t get the same treatment - Radio 1’s Breakfast Show maybe.

Very interesting changes.

Yes I thought breakfast was going to be named in that way. 

Also surprises me they haven't added "Weekend Breakfast" back to "Dev & Alice" yet now they have finished drive time. 

Ultimately I think they are trying to create "Shows" rather then just the presenter/personality (as this is what happens on commercial - Capital is the same all the time just with different presenters). They want Radio 1 to have "shows" that people specifically choose to listen too.

      Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.

      Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.

      They knew Roman wanted to leave early last year but wasn't officially announced but he gave them time to sort replacement. Found and offered Jordan a deal in June or July and needed time to get Jordan out of Contract at bbc and roman to do notice  Jordan had dinner with Katie Vick and Arielle to ask advice and all said he should go.

      From what he's saying on the Pod he's been trying to get out of r1 for a while. Looks like he needed to wait for a show on global to be available. Jordan had bbq last summer with most of thr global execs and he's referenced the deal was in place then. Obviously the hold up was r1 being stubborn

      It's great to see those friendships still thriving. I think the days of Radio 1 DJs and Capital DJs being unable to co-exist is long over. You used to either be firmly BBC or commercial, and you don't get the sense that's the case anymore.

      Vick and Jordan together on Insta (with Ariel’s) in Ibiza. You do imagine Jordan’s ex colleagues have a very different attitude to him than management. Comments on Help! And very subtle comments on Capital Breakfast suggest Jordan was frustrated with Radio 1 / BBC management.

      His NYE shows were very good. Only thing I would say is he was shackled down slightly there. During his peak he played some great trance stuff in the late 90s and early 00s. So if he were to do a regular show that would have to feature more. Aside from I'd love to see him back.
