Thought I'd make a thread specifically for this.

Just heard a new number 1 sting into One Kiss - looks like we could be getting a new chart package.

Well spotted. Sounds like the existing sonic logo remains in a refreshed form.

I think that's the old voiceovers now officially gone from the station.

Didn't get to hear all of the chart, but from what I did hear it was very good. He sounds so enthusiastic about it and the format is good. I wonder how long it'll be before it reverts to the same old chart that Greg was doing every week, without any of the celebrity phone calls. The new imaging is ok, I like that they've kept hints of the previous one but I don't think its quite as good. Also, it looks like Greg retains the Chart Update on Mondays as well!

From what I heard of Dance Anthems, that was sounding good too! He referenced that it was good to be back doing the show (although under a different name).

Scott was sounding great - his presenting style is perfect for the chart. The new imaging is fine but it's just a refresh of a (in my opinion) better package Greg had. I like the fact they're including celebrity chats again, at least it's a bit of content amid the "that was no.21, here's no.20".

Dance Anthems - so glad it's staying and Scott was sounding great on that too. One thing I wasn't a fan of was the quite awkward chat with a listener about their plans for Friday night. They should drop that I think.

Overall, great start for Scott and good to have him back on Radio 1 on a Friday evening!

I really like the pure enthusiasm that Scott has for the Official Chart. I love listening to Greg, but you could just tell that he wasn't at his best doing it. And he didn't enjoy or want to do it, as he said in his interview with the Guardian (something in the lines of: when the chart became playing Ed Sheeran's new album he lost the will to do it). Scott on the other hand actually enjoys it, is obviously perfect at doing it and brings a guest each week to make the most of it.
Obvious and probably unnecessary statement, but: he really is the best Radio DJ out there, who can make something good out of something rather boring.

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
