Radio 1 Podcasts

THIS IS THE BBC

Recommended Posts

Just thought about making a thread about the ever-growing number of radio 1 podcasts, comments, recommendations etc.

There are currently 9 regularly released podcasts, these include:

Scott Mills Daily, The Greg James Podcast, Annie Mac's Mini Mix, Radio 1's Screen Time, Radio 1 & 1Xtra's Stories, Radio 1's Life Hacks Podcast, Niki and Sammy's Peachy Podcast, Unexpected Fluids and Kench*.

*So far, under the Kench feed, podcasts have included: Ray Moss, Birthday Girls' House Party, The Andy Field Experience, Ed & Lauren, BattleActs! and The Comeback.

Chris's Friday Extra Show is also released weekly under Scott Mills Daily on the podcast sites.

Movies That Made Me is now released regularly under 'Screen Time'.

The following are also still available from the past:

Newsbeat, Life and Death Row, I Hear Voices, The Radio 1 Vintage Interviews, Ed and Lauren Get On, Best of Nick Grimshaw, Movies that Made Me and How I Got Here from Radio 1's Academy.

Old episodes of the That's What He Said podcast are still available under 'The Greg James Podcast'.

There definitely seems to have been a big push from about 5 podcasts to 17 in the last few months now with Entertainment, Comedy, Documentaries, Movies and Music all featured across the range.

Just noticed, does the airing of these podcasts mean that Radio 1 Stories is off now?

Yes the 3-4 slot now just includes:

Mon - Artist Takeover

Tue - Specialist Chart

Wed - Comedy (Ed and Lauren)

Thu - Comedy (Niki and Sammy)

Fri - Changes a lot - has been Greatest hits, residency etc. in the last few weeks (Should also change to comedy in about a month)

Radio 1 Stories is now just made as a podcast to download and doesn't seem to be aired at all.

I haven't actually listened so I don't know for sure, but weren't documentaries supposed to be a part of the new Sunday Surgery/Life Hacks slot?

Has anyone else noticed that full songs keep being left in Scott's podcast? I'm not sure whether it's on purpose or not, but it's happened several times recently.

(Tuesday's podcast is still missing.)

Also it's a shame they're not using the Best In Show shows for some real classic Mills - they could probably air stuff like Flirt Divert and Badly Bleeped TV again and it would be a new audience, hearing it for the first time.

I have also noticed this. It tends to be between 3pm-3:30pm that it happens, but I don't know if it's intentional.

Is anyone else listening to the comedy podcasts?

  • I quite enjoyed the Ed and Lauren Get On podcast (which has recently finished) due to their funny but down to earth style. It just feels very relaxed and I could see this being brought back as they seem to be quite natural on the radio. General discussions about the funny side of life in a great partnership of real-world comedians.
  • Niki and Sammy's Peachy Podcast however hasn't been great as they spend most of the time talking about themselves and often have to have guests for the show to sound entertaining - it seems very similar to Grimmy's show - forced fun, reliance on guests and awful features (description friction in this case). They are just run-of-the-mill youtubers though so no great expectations here!
  • Scott and Chris' Best in Show is great, replaying games and features from the past couple of years, I t would be better though if they went back even further to things we won't all remember or have heard before bu overall, it works well and is a great idea as a lot of radio is never repeated but Scott's show deserves to be promoted in this way due to its long history for being so entertaining.
  • The Kench podcast will feature many shorter series', the current of which being Ray Moss - No Stone Unturned. This is very different from the others as it is a fictional, light-hearted detective series in which he tries to investigate mock-up cases sent in by listeners. It seems very good in the way the stories are quite funny and interesting and he is a great character.

So all in all these new podcasts are a great addition to the R1 collection and I would recommend them to people who enjoy the existing podcasts. In my eyes a much better idea than the constant documentaries and R1 takeover's we were bombarded in this slot before!

Enjoying the amount of podcasts - never short on something to listen to anymore.

Im sure in the first best of podcast Scott said they may get into older stuff so can imagine after next few more starting to delve into tap end etc but think we’re unlikely to hear of anything pre-Chris

also enjoing Nicky and Danny’s peachy podcast their episode with Scott and Chris about bad jokes was great - reflecting on the lolathon

Does anyone thing BBC Podcasts will ever be on Spotify?

I always listen to Podcasts on there so find myself forgetting about the BBC ones every now and then purely because all my podcasts are in the same place (apart from BBC).

Also, you cannot listen to BBC iPlayer Radio App with Sonos which is how I pretty much how I listen to everything.

Just a hit inconvenient really. Would be nice for them to publish on Spotify as well as iTunes etc.

Get yourself the Apple Podcasts app if you have an iPhone (not sure about Android). You can download the podcast to your device and play it as a local file through Sonos.

For those who don’t follow Jordan North on twitter, himself and his friend William Hanson have a great podcast called ‘help I sexted my boss’

Not a radio1 podcast so some of you may have missed it as can’t get promoted on the radio either, although I can’t see why radio1 won’t him one commission soon as this shows loads of potential
