Jordan live from 4-7 on Christmas day! The poor lad. He'll have been depping on R1 for three years come Christmas, and yet all he has to show for it is a live show slap bang in the middle of Christmas afternoon, meaning that he'll probably be down in London instead of with his family in Preston. That sucks. Although Adele will have been on earlies for three years come April/May (I'm never sure exactly when, because towards the end of her Early Breakfast stint, Gemma just stopped showing up meaning Adele was on most of the time anyway!), so maybe a reshuffle is imminent.

Christmas Schedule 2017:

https://forums.digitalspy.com/discussion/2255103/radio-1-christmas-schedule#latest

Key points:

  • Maya Jama in for Alice on 23rd/24th
  • R1 Superstar Playlist returns Christmas Day 10am-4pm
  • Boxing Day 1pm-4pm TBA so perhaps that's Dev?
  • 27th is Live Lounge rewind day until 4pm
  • 28th Is Nixtape day until 7pm
  • 29th is Chart of 2017 day until 7pm
  • Luke Franks in for Alice on the 30th/31st, he's also on NYD 10am-1pm
  • Cel & Katie doing a NYE Dance Classics show 4pm-7pm, also on 1pm-4pm on the 2nd-5th
  • Jordan North hosts the NYE into NYD show from 7pm (Looks like a pre-recorded show) and then is on Breakfast on NYD and on the 10am-1pm slot from the 2nd-5th
  • Katie Thistleton is on 1pm-4pm NYD
  • Scott & Chris on Breakfast 2nd-5th
  • Dev on Drivetime 2nd-4th, MistaJam on the chart on the 5th

Does anyone know when the full Newsbeat finishes and resumes? I'd assume they'd go up to the 22nd December, and then return on Wednesday 3rd January?

Chris Smith will be reading the boxing Day news, he always seems to do a random day during the Christmas period.

EDIT: I didn't realise the schedule was already up on the website. Newsbeat is back on the 2nd (quite early). I notice Katie Thisleton and Julia Hardy are both down for a couple of days of early breakfast each between Christmas and New Year, but nobody is down to be doing it the week after.

My money is on Steve Holden doing the Christmas Day news. He's done it for a couple of years now. I expect Simon Mundie will be doing a day over Christmas & New Year too.

No one on earlies the week after then would have thought Jordan would have picked that up and Matt the 10-1 slot

I assume it will probably someone like Yasser or Nick Bright in that week (They are about the only cover DJs not on), I think Jordan will get some time off as he is on pretty much every day. It's amazing so many of the regular DJs are off: Greg, Clara, Grimmy and Alice don't appear much at all.

I wouldn't be to surprised to see Matt or Alice leave the station before long, they have bot had so many weekends off, its hard to see that continuing much longer.

Tuesday 2nd-Friday 5th January 4am-6:30am is just billed as 'Christmas and New Year on Radio 1', so I imagine it's just pre-records of some kind.

Jordan is on early breakfast from Monday 8th-Wednesday 10th January and Adele returns on the 11th.

Adele, Scott/Chris and Dev appear to be the only regular daytime DJs working over the period with Matt and Alice appearing a little

Scott is working hardest I would say 3 weeks of breakfast cover

I so hope if Grimmy goes Scott or Greg gets Breakfast for at least a couple years

The first week early slot has now been filled. Will Best is presenting that week. Another minor change is that Daniel P Carter is in for Annie Mac on NYD.

All this Jordan North - his very own trail, the flagship NYE show, it must be building up to something, mustn't it - a March reshuffle? I almost feel like he's been depping for so long, he really deserves a fastrack to daytime...

Will 2018 finally be the year Grimmy is shown the door?

My prediction was wrong. It's Sinead covering the news today. Am I right in thinking that the news stops at 12:30pm? I seem to remember it did on Christmas Day last year. Chris Smith does tomorrow.

    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
    • They knew Roman wanted to leave early last year but wasn't officially announced but he gave them time to sort replacement. Found and offered Jordan a deal in June or July and needed time to get Jordan out of Contract at bbc and roman to do notice  Jordan had dinner with Katie Vick and Arielle to ask advice and all said he should go.
    • And they told Radio 4’s Feedback that it was an ‘experiment’ to ‘look at the best way to serve young listeners’ but reaffirmed that 280 hours commitment.
    • I doubt he wanted to go to Global if a slot before he found out kemp was leaving.
    • We're hoping to get some answers in the coming weeks
    • From what he's saying on the Pod he's been trying to get out of r1 for a while. Looks like he needed to wait for a show on global to be available. Jordan had bbq last summer with most of thr global execs and he's referenced the deal was in place then. Obviously the hold up was r1 being stubborn
    • All seems to be back to normal this morning.
    • Indeed and Jordan was already friends with Sian Welby, Will Manning and Jimmy Hill.
    • It's great to see those friendships still thriving. I think the days of Radio 1 DJs and Capital DJs being unable to co-exist is long over. You used to either be firmly BBC or commercial, and you don't get the sense that's the case anymore.
    • Maia Beth will be presenting the Radio 1 Happy shows from the 27th April replacing Katie.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ydkr
    • Vick and Jordan together on Insta (with Ariel’s) in Ibiza. You do imagine Jordan’s ex colleagues have a very different attitude to him than management. Comments on Help! And very subtle comments on Capital Breakfast suggest Jordan was frustrated with Radio 1 / BBC management.
    • I can name quite a few people on this forum who would be better presenters than Danny.
