I think gjquestion123 means they used to still play the top 40 but in montage form, where as now they just play a selection in full before the Top 10

Yup, that was my fingers typing wrong there. There is something grating about just having a list of song titles. They could at least play the skipped songs in 'montage form'/

Being a chart man i disliked the way Greg did it before.

it doesn't help there's a limited time slot now, But if it were me I'd do it like Wes off of 2003. The top 40 used to be the last 2 hours of the chart show (the first covered last weeks number one, album chart and any competitions that were happening) when he did it and that was done in montage but playing new entries and random tracks in full till he got to the top 10 which was then in full.

Totally agree, one of the most important shows on the station squished into the smallest slot. Get rid of or delay dance anthems or the news and go through the whole chart like the Jameela Jamil days.

Maybe Newsbeat could be squeezed in at 4, then the Chart Show from 4:15 through until 7, then Danny Howard, which is nothing else than Dance Anthems (he's the guy that does it on Saturdays anyway) and Friday night Dance Anthems can be scrapped anyway, Greg James is not the guy for that.

Or move newsbeat to 7 and have Danny Howard playing dance anthems until 8 then a more free variety from 8.

I actually like it the way it is. Sorry to say but the chart has become pretty much irrelevant for me and I suspect many others nowadays. It just doesn't have the same buzz or excitement it used to. I also think streaming being included has devalued the number 1- we've only had 2 number 1s in 3 months or something (Shape of You and Rockabye)- boring.

Radio-wise, I miss Greg's normal Friday show. I'd much rather have Feet Up Friday back than listen to the chart. I also love Dance Anthems and tune in especially for that at 6- great show, sounds huge and is perfect for the weekend. That slot has traditionally been like that too (Ready for the Weekend and Floorfillers with Scott (whoooo)). I suggested it at the time and I'd favour it moving to Clara's slot, it gets nearly 3 hours like before but doesn't clog up one of the main personality shows. Greg's one of the best Chart presenters but I feel he's wasted doing it- Clara was good and a huge upgrade on Jameela in the time she did it on Sundays. I do miss the Reggie Yates Sunday 4pm days though if I'm honest- the chart belongs there and Reggie was perfect as a presenter (and Scott used to be the main cover which was always a nice surprise on a Sunday). Anyway, times have changed

I think that the chart shouldn't have moved from Sunday in the first place.

Disagree here, we were behind the rest of the world with the chart - with songs being released on Fridays/Saturdays, meaning they'd be part of the UK chart on the Sunday yet would place low as only being around for a few hours, thus not reaching their possible potential. Moving the chart to a Friday is better for artists, and allows for a more accurate representation of their album sales in the chart - it therefore makes it more interesting for the listeners too.

I do agree however that it was better for programming when it was on a Sunday, and it's definitely a shame to have lost Greg's Friday show; the chart is bigger than Radio 1 however, and they have to move for the chart and the music industry, not the other way round.

Maybe Clara could do the chart in the mornings. I know that it's released at 4 pm, but maybe the OC company could change something there.

This has been done before (Christmas last year), but doubt the OCC would agree to it, they want a prime time slot; also they'd have to turn the data around fast, and R1 would have to turn it around even faster to get it on air and produced to a decent standard! Although from our perspective it makes some sense, I can't see R1 or OCC ever going for it.

    • Makes sense, I always assumed they all went for 1D members regardless.
    • Do you prefer doing Capital Breakfast to Radio 1 or the other way round?
    • Jesus christ, Olivia Rodrigo was around 3 years ago!?! I thought she was only born in 2019. Anyway. They are doing it to rival commercial networks, on the main 2 lists anyway with rotating them more. Which all in all is a pit of misery. I'm sick to bloody death of Stick Season, it's an utter bag of mediocre wank that makes me even prefer James Blunt circa 2005. Radio 1 still is more expansive however, loved stuff they play and make their own early days, like Jungle Back on 74 like last year.  They can't lose doing stuff that, or else they become bland like everyone else. They have done that for many years though. I heard a song on a March 2001 aircheck from Chris Moyles recently and rediscovered a song by Kings Of Convenience, called Toxic Girl. Totally lost over 25 years but totally love it like it's new. Radio 1 has always played the big time pop stuff since your nan was 3. But they always have and still do throw something on the playlists that isn't what everyone else has. I hope they continue to do that as it sets them apart.
    • I think they are looking too much into this and need to get a proper job where you have to get up at 5am.
    • Zayn's current song isn't on the R1 playlist so would be odd for him to do an interview I guess, not sure either would want it?
    • You have both presented together before your show on Capital. Have you spent time together as friends since, or is the reunion like getting to know one another all over again?   I’m a long time listener in my mid 30s and now outside the R1 target audience age… Chris is into barbecuing and Jordan is into air frying, have you both noticed a change in the other since the days of R1? And are you under any pressure to be on trend at Capital?
    • What do you both miss most about your time at R1?
    • How are you finding the early mornings, and having your afternoons free? Was it easy getting to grips with a different desk and play out system? Do you have any upcoming OBs and anything else exciting planned for the show that you can exclusively share with Unofficialmills? 😀
    • This research is based on the DJs’ voices - pitches, speech rates and fillers like ums and ahs they use - so it’s not affected by sound effects. But yes according to the report Scott is listed as a Radio 2 DJ instead of Radio 1.
    • The playlist has definitely got a bit narrower this year, it feels like. Artists like Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Drake and  Doja Cat seem to be played in every show, even when they’re not on the playlist. Other artists who get a few plays a week, such as Niall Horan, always seem to have the same song played, in his case, Heaven. Whenever they dive into Calvin Harris’ backlog it always seems to be Slide and Promises pulled out, even though they’re two of his least upbeat songs. Most songs they play seem to have been from the 2020s, instead of throwing in a few older hits like Capital does, which is something I think they could do.
    • Jamie Laing out of the schedule for Going Home today - Lauren Layfield in with Katie Thistleton.
    • Bit of a scoop getting an exclusive interview with Zayn, I wonder why he decided not to do Radio 1 too?
    • Who are your favourite artists that are not anywhere close to being on the playlist?   Are there ever songs that make you want to start pulling your hair out (in general, no need to put anyone on blast lol)?
    • Hi to both, miss you loads on radio 1 and hope that you’re doing good at capital 🙏   What was the background to your exits from Radio 1? Do you have any regrets from how it ended?    This one’s more to Jordan, but do you enjoy TV presenting more than radio? What are your targets in TV?
    • I do think if you distracted by talking you wouldn’t put a podcast on in the car. To me unless you used to driving so often that you don’t get distracted and drive for long distances it feels suited to podcasts. I find it odd including Ryan Seacrest or Howard Stern as I don’t know who listens to them in the U.K. Can imagine Chris Evans distracting and annoying on radio in general same for Chris Moyles. I can imagine Scott as not too distracting maybe even in his radio 1 days although if I was a driver I could find Innuendo Bingo or Funny Business distracting based on the humour of the features but Scott’s got a very soft gentle tone of voice doesn’t come across as loud or in your face. I think when you are on in the working day where people maybe listening as said in car, in the office or tradespeople on a job listening to the radio theres a certain style needed
