It would seem the power intros have been rolled out across the station full-time from today. Still the old voiceovers on the news intros, and IDs where there's no power intro.

Saying that though, Grimmy has had some name-check sweepers today with the new voiceovers and a couple of new mini sweepers I found in The Nixtape and the start of Matt's show today.

I think the news intros will be updated on probably the 2nd January but I just guessing on that one.

Think this might help me with my montage project! I don't think I originally heard the 'Sorry' power intro on-air before they released this demo so it's good to see unreleased intro in this.

Most of these intros heard have already gone out on air and heard regularly although it's good to see some power intros which was originally made with the new voiceovers yet got a edit with old voiceovers, the 'Side By Side' one springs to mind. :beuj:

I've heard the Sorry intro before - that's actually the second incarnation.

I did wonder how the station would sound when these took over. On Greg's show they try to add his name either before or during some of the intros.

The part about this I don't like is that it's Greg's name in the old voices, not the new ones, so again it doesn't flow. I know for a fact they have the names voiced up because Scott used to play a ID on NMF when it first started which had his name in the new voices.

Sounding pretty good! Although still a lot of inconsistency.

Interestingly, the power intros are cued before the songs. In that, I mean they're two separate files and the power intros aren't edited to the start of the songs. Wouldn't notice though would you?!

I'm not sure that's true, simply because generally if the song has the power intro on it is almost without exception shorter, which would suggest that they'd press play on "Cold_Water_w_Intro.wav" which would be about 2:30 or "Cold_Water.wav" which would be about 3:30. Comparatively I'm 99% sure that the NMF TOH Montages are prerecorded, so will include the intros + songs, I'm also pretty certain that the breakfast montages are pre records, although less so because they're slightly more clunky; however the 20 second snippet montage before each full montage is definitely a separate file to the full montage as sometimes there's a definite end and start to each of them plus Grimmy often talks too much and so hasn't finished what he's saying and has to leave a gap between the two.

You're taking that from the picture R1Breakfast posted yesterday aren't you? ;)

That's actually so the presenters have a choice on if they want to play the R1 Branded track or the normal track, depending on whats happening in the show an R1 Branded track might not fit in or they might want to talk on the ramp up to the vocal!

So here's an observation... Having listened to Scott's show over the past few days there's been a few occasions where it sounds like Scott (or maybe one of his team) effectively played out makeshift power intros of songs where normal ones already exist.

I have a feeling it's because the power intro versions are at least a minute shorter than the full length tracks and it's to fill time?

I feel like some of the intros heard on Greg's show aren't IMGR productions either - they don't sound as highly-produced.

I'm taking that from Scott's Snapchat actually!

In that case, maybe there are certain DJs/shows that have both options? If you look closely at the two on Grimmy's running order in that picture the R1 edit is shorter than the actual track,  which is at normal length?

If these intros are "radio trends around station imaging", then god help the imaging companies who lead the way in these trends. These intros might be adventurous, however they are certainly nothing but a mishmash of uncertainty as to what station I'm listening to. And powerful they certainly are not.  The key to successful radio imaging is to use normal voices as has been used for years on many stations, not to rhyme the station name into a song which is about to be played, which could also be contractually and legally wrong if a music artist has not given their permission for it to be used in this way.

You will know of my love for the new power intros with Mike. Nearly 7 months after they were originally aired for BBC Radios most geeky, pointless tacky feature New Music Friday, I have only recently decided that these would be a suitable replacement to the 2014 package. IMGR's latest production is a stark contrast to the Mike Wooller ones, and IMGR's clearly demonstrate an imaging of incompetent trends. I've heard music played on the Daniel P Carter Rock show which is clearer than these intros.

Power is all about simplicity in imaging - Mike and his female assistant have done it fine.

The breakfast show has recently been ruined with another package that is quite frankly ludicrous in the way it comes across. Whatever happened to the WB refresh? It aired for a few days before disappearing.

I understand the station wants to keep up with trends which is fair enough and I blame the awful trends at the radio's imaging industry as a whole. But now we have these, the breakfast show imaging, the Mike intros, a mix of the 2014 ones, chart imaging and the Newsbeat 2015 theme. The imaging is all over the place and there is a sincere lack of inconsistency. The NMF imaging has haunted this entire image rebrand since April, and since then it has been the slowest rush ever of an introduction to running a radio station with no clear image. Even the Where It Begins tagline has suffered throughout as you hardly hear it TOTH now!

I know nothing about radio branding imaging, however I do know professionalism when I hear it and there isn't any here. I do not mean to come across negative with my comments and make no apology for it, but I say what I think and know.

Rant ranted. For now.

I do agree with much of above, actually. I feel as though this rebrand is highly inconsistent - the breakfast show sounds like it's from a student radio station and isn't in sync with the rest of the packages.

Pre-edited "Radio 1" voices are edited into the beginning of audio packages, and then suddenly a rather brash "GREG JAMES" is shouted over the intro vocals. The Breakfast Show is now essentially news, music and completely over the top 20 second idents. Nick might aswell not even be there.  Newsbeat sounds completely different to the rest of the station.

The station is just a confusing mash of noise. Even the trails sound pretty bad.

And the other thing - they need to stop using WiseBuddah, Pure, Music4, IMGR and an in-house team. They should stick with one - remember those bloody amazing Pure packages from the 2012 era? They didn't require any music to prop them up, didn't have naff voices. There was no arsing about, just some beautiful idents that sounded big but not too big. Brilliant voices, even better production. Here's a little trip down memory lane for how I think Radio 1 imaging SHOULD sound:

Totally agree. Radio 1 are really starting to put in the effort into getting the new imaging fully phased in, quite a few older songs which I haven't heard in ages getting the power intro treatment.

Seems like some of the new imaging has crept into Matt Edmondson's show, I think he and Grimmy are the only two using newer imaging at the moment.

I heard another one during Cel's show today at 4:30pm although they went into a song with a power intro after 'Final Song' finished, the free-standing ident on Dev's show was basically the same ident used at the start of the Best New Pop show, it means awkwardly there is rather a long gap between the end of the '1' and 'Where It Begins'. I mean surely they could have shortened a bit?

I guess these free-standing idents will stay with the power intros but their use will be reduced significantly and heard only occasionally now?

I heard a new free-standing ident followed by an ID during Dev's show yesterday #nerdalert

Also, rather randomly I heard an old Weekend Breakfast Show ID this morning too.

Ooh, at what time roughly?

    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
    • They knew Roman wanted to leave early last year but wasn't officially announced but he gave them time to sort replacement. Found and offered Jordan a deal in June or July and needed time to get Jordan out of Contract at bbc and roman to do notice  Jordan had dinner with Katie Vick and Arielle to ask advice and all said he should go.
    • And they told Radio 4’s Feedback that it was an ‘experiment’ to ‘look at the best way to serve young listeners’ but reaffirmed that 280 hours commitment.
    • I doubt he wanted to go to Global if a slot before he found out kemp was leaving.
    • We're hoping to get some answers in the coming weeks
    • From what he's saying on the Pod he's been trying to get out of r1 for a while. Looks like he needed to wait for a show on global to be available. Jordan had bbq last summer with most of thr global execs and he's referenced the deal was in place then. Obviously the hold up was r1 being stubborn
    • All seems to be back to normal this morning.
    • Indeed and Jordan was already friends with Sian Welby, Will Manning and Jimmy Hill.
    • It's great to see those friendships still thriving. I think the days of Radio 1 DJs and Capital DJs being unable to co-exist is long over. You used to either be firmly BBC or commercial, and you don't get the sense that's the case anymore.
    • Maia Beth will be presenting the Radio 1 Happy shows from the 27th April replacing Katie.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ydkr
    • Vick and Jordan together on Insta (with Ariel’s) in Ibiza. You do imagine Jordan’s ex colleagues have a very different attitude to him than management. Comments on Help! And very subtle comments on Capital Breakfast suggest Jordan was frustrated with Radio 1 / BBC management.
    • I can name quite a few people on this forum who would be better presenters than Danny.
    • His NYE shows were very good. Only thing I would say is he was shackled down slightly there. During his peak he played some great trance stuff in the late 90s and early 00s. So if he were to do a regular show that would have to feature more. Aside from I'd love to see him back.
