Chart Show moves to Friday at 4pm

Greg James has posted on his Facebook page saying that there's big Radio 1 news coming at midnight.

Not sure if it's related or not but the Official charts also have big news coming at midnight. Do you think we could see the chart move days sooner than we thought? Maybe onto Greg's show on a Friday?

EDIT: Yep, chart is moving to Friday 4-6pm hosted by Greg. Press release also mentions something about a CBBC show and the title 'CBBC Official Chart Show'?

Interesting, very interesting. I can't really see how it'll fit in to what's predominantly an entertainment show, but at least we still have Greg. I hope it's basically a usual Greg James show, with the chart incorporated rather than a full on chart rundown.

I note the chart's reducing to two hours as part of all this. In fact would it not be 1 hour 45 mins if Newsbeat's still running at 5:45pm?

End of a very long era.

so what happened to Clara supposedely carrying on doing it?

sadly this does mean the end for scott sitting in on the chart show though when Gregs on holiday, unless he does 5 hours solid which seems unlikely

So Cooper said that Clara would continue hosting the Chart but now she's not?

Bit of a shame that Feet Up Friday is gone. It's been a staple of Greg's show for years and the teams coming in and playing some classic songs fitted in perfectly to Friday evening. The fact that it's being replaced with a rundown of songs we've all heard a hundred times is disappointing. I would have favoured Clara continuing with it at 10am on a Friday or Scott and Clara teaming up for a rundown between 3 and 4pm. The Chart Show is an institution but it's not that relevant anymore and messing with a flagship show to fit it in is a shame. At least Dance Anthems is staying.

The "4-6pm" on the press release must be a mistake as Newsbeat is obviously at 5:45.

It also means the end of Scott covering the Chart Show which is a shame as he is great at it. Presumably Dev will be main cover from July.

Interesting to see what happens with Sunday 4pm-7pm. I'd like to see the return of The Radio 1 Request Show with Adele Roberts presenting it maybe. Radio 1 probably won't go for it but I think it'd be a great replacement. Hopefully they don't just go for a standard daytime show with a new presenter.

I'm hearing the new presenter of the sunday slot could be Cel Spelman with a CBBC related show. Don't quote me on that though !

You may be correct. Above is from the Independent, a link tweeted from Louisa Compton (Head of Newsbeat). The short Newsbeat documentaries on the iPlayer seem like a good idea but will this mean doing away with the 12:45pm & 5:45pm programmes and sticking to hourly news until 5:30pm as per Saturday's? Time will tell.

The 15 minuite long Newsbeat programs are part of Radio 1's licence if I remember rightly, so unless the BBC Trust change the licence I think they'll be staying.

- Greg's doing the chart now

- Clara is taking over Fearne's slot before the chart changes

- The show is 1h 45, from 4pm to 5:45

- Newsbeat will remain

- Replacing the current chart slot will be the CBBC Chart hosted by Cel Spellman, live from the Live Lounge every Sunday for three hours with entertainment, and heavily focused on interaction. Great. That's really relating to the 15+ age range. Thanks Radio 1.

I'm also really disappointed that Feet Up Friday is being binned. I only listen to Greg's show once a week and it's for exactly that, plus dance anthems. Real shame.

As someone else has pointed out, do we really want to replace decent Friday vibes with chart songs we've all heard a hundred times already? And I don't even know what to say about the CBBC involvement. I knew Radio 1 had a young target audience, but blimey...

Overall I think this is good. I predicted this a while back! Feet Up Friday did start to sound stale and it's the right time for it to go IMO. Shame that Clara only had it for a few months though! Wish 17:45 newsbeat on a Friday would go, too (or be reduced to 5-10 mins) (btw radioanorak, Cel Spellman's CBBC show won't be on Radio 1, it'll be on CBBC)

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
