So no handover at 19:00 today. Hope that's just because she spoke to Greg earlier in his show, and not a regular thing. Even though they'll never compare to the Zane handovers, I hope the 19:00 handover continues.

First record: Something I've never heard before. Liked the understated "hi" just before the vocal though, a big difference from "I'll be here for the next two hours AND THE NEXT TEN FREAKING YEARS! ITS 8PM ON RADIO 1 LET'S GO!" from Zane's first show. Next ten years and then some.

Second record: Something else I've never heard before (not that that's a bad thing). Dancy.

Also, tonight, a Hottest Record from Mumford and Sons. Still not convinced on Annie being a non-dance DJ though, but I'm open to convincing on that as I listen to more. To me it feels a bit like everything else is a second love to dance music, I kinda can't see her enthusing about Royal Blood in the same way she might be about, say, a new Eric Prydz record without it being a tad forced. But I'll see I guess.

I don't know, if you read the interview she done for The Independent her roots are in indie music. Plus her old Sunday night show has always been the antidote to Friday night with a bit of a mixture.

I think she's a great choice to take over Zane, the only one on Radio 1 at the moment that could possibly do it. And she has the advantage of already being a well-known and respected name in the industry.

As for the lack of handover I imagine it was because it was her first show.

And it wouldn't be Unofficial Mills without a mention of the jingles - I love them. Sounds very fresh and not quite as in your face as Zane's (which matched his show perfectly by the way)

Thought the bits around the Hottest Record was a bit underwhelming to be honest - just "okay here it is now" and "that was it", followed by a slightly dull interview with Marcus from the band. At least Mumford and Sons have finally made a record that doesn't sound exactly the same as all of their other ones.

WAAAAAAAA I MISS ZANE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE HE'S ACTUALLY GONE!!!!!!!!

Cynicism aside though, because I do like Annie as a DJ. I just hate change. It's still weird thinking I'll never hear Zane on Radio 1 again.

Anyway, think that's enough excitement for one night, I'm off to the chrismoyles.net archive for Monday 6th March 2006. I've been on a show a weekday since Jan 2013.

I have to say, I'm really enjoying Annie's new show. Yes, it's strange not hearing Zane on the and there may be a few underwhelming moments in tonight's show but she is just finding her feet I guess. I am loving the 'Mellow Monday' feature. I did find the build up to the Hottest Record a bit of a let down but I know it will improve, she is, like many of people have said, is the best DJ for the job.

So no handover at 7 tonight- it's officially dead.

Unless they're just waiting until she's settled in to start doing them again, to give people a change to forget how amazing the Zane ones were. Maybe the DJ handover's on the hour are just something from an old era of Radio 1 that went with Zane.

      Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.

      To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?

      Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.

      Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters

      Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.

      Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.

      Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.

      Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.

      Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
