Christmas Schedule 2014

About a month away, has the Christmas schedule been announced yet?

My (comprehensive) predictions:

Last year Greg was in Australia, so didn't do any radio over the Christmas period, but I think he's in the country this year, so hopefully he'll be back to the tradition of doing Christmas Day breakfast (even more hopefully with Chris Smith, although he does have a young family). Scott on breakfast between the 22nd and the 24th (also, it will be 5 years since Chappers left on the 24th- he's now been off the show for as long as he was on it). Also Greg will probably be the only live show Christmas day, and won't do any other shows until Monday 5th Jan (although I'd like to hear him with on Breakfast a bit more during that period, just to see what a Greg James Breakfast Show could sound like)

I reckon Dev will feature heavily in the schedule, because he takes any work thrown at him! Also, Alice Levine, bit of Jameela, and I think this will be Phil Taggart's year for Christmas cover. A lot of pre-rec as well, the usual Big Weekend/Teen Awards highlights.

So, we have...

Monday 22nd December - Wednedsay 24th December

0400 Adele Roberts

0630 Scott Mills

1000 Alice Levine

1300 Matt Edmondson

1600 Dev

Thursday 25th December

0600 Greg James (with Chris Smith?)

1000 Pre-rec Phil Taggart

1300-1900 Pre-rec Big Weekend highlights

Friday 26th December

0400 Adele Roberts

0630 Dev

1000 Jameela Jamil

1300 Phil Taggart

1600 Pre-rec Teen Awards highlights with Matt Edmondson

Saturday/Sunday 27th/28th December

0600 Dev

1000 Phil Taggart

1300 Alice Levine

1600 Danny Howard/Chart with Jameela

Monday 29th December-Friday 2nd January

0400 Adele Roberts

0630 Dev

1000 Alice Levine

1300 Phil Taggart

1600 Matt Edmondson

Those are my comprehensive predictions, any thoughts? Let's see how accurate we are.

He's drivetime show presenter at Rock FM in Lancashire also former student radio DJ. In his soundcloud page he has some bits from his show, have a listen https://soundcloud.com/01_jnorth

Wow, had a quick listen- I'm impressed. The accent is a tad irritating, but I got over Coxy, I can get over his. I hope that the good stuff he's doing on commercial radio transfers well to Radio 1, it never really worked with Pete Allison (plus I couldn't deal with him using the name "Pete Allison's Early Bit"- shameless rip off of The Saviour himself). Looking forward to hearing him over Christmas.

Also, devastated that Greg's not doing Christmas Day breakfast anymore- he really loved doing that show, and as much as I love Scott, I think that as the most established person on Radio 1, he shouldn't have to work over Christmas, he can never really be bothered with those shows anyway.

Over the last few days, Scott has confirmed that he and Chris are doing the Christmas Day breakfast show. I'd also imagine they'd be doing the rest of the week like last year. Also, today (Saturday 29 November) Phil Taggart who is in for Alice said he was the 'Christmas temp of Radio 1' although no mention of particular shows just yet.

Heard Greg saying earlier this afternoon that he wanted to do Christmas breakfast this year, and he asked if he could, but wasn't allowed as punishment for being on holiday this time last year. Shame, it was a great tradition.

I heard the same! I also heard the phrase, "Screw you, management". Nice man.

Huw's a strange choice to be on that week, and the week before, now he's strictly specialist. I'd assume he'll be running down the Sound of 2015 list, but still, he doesn't need to do the whole show. I was expecting more Dev and Phil Taggart actually, and Matt Edmondson's not on at all over the festive period. Weird Scott's not having any time off as well, he hasn't been on holiday for a while (apart from the Strictly training). For that second week of January, I would've liked to hear someone else on breakfast that doesn't normally cover it, like Greg James or Matt Edmondson. Oh well, Scott Mills FM it is. Better make the most of it, could be his last Christmas...

    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
