Radio 2 in the Park 2024

I enjoy current Breakfast Show, but there's plenty of room for improvement. I think Grimmy's show needs less time given to corporate weekly plugs - Nick just doesn't have it in him to fake something he doesn't find interesting. Unlike Grimmy, Scott is really, really good at selling whichever (often dull) weekly thing R1 has him promo. Scott manages to pass for genuinely enthusiastic easily. Nick plows through mandatory content at a fast rate with no real interest (on the other hand, he's pretty amazing when he occasionally gets away with taking the mick out of the more ridiculous corporate plugs).

Nick's strengths are storytelling, interacting with others and generally flying without a script. He can make a great link out of anything game/quiz related. He makes anecdotes on taking his dog for a walk sound riveting. His show needs a lot less structure. Also his team, while mostly likable, doesn't have too great a track record with coming up with great features and show content at regular basis.

Personality wise, I think giving more room to Fiona was a very good move - she's a very fresh no-nonsense character and is a good balance to other three. Initially I thought Fincham was an excellent counterpart to Nick, but their bickering in the past month or two somehow bypassed friendly banter and headed for just plain being mean (well, mean from Matt's side and blasé from Nick's). I'm not sure Fincham can tell a line between humour and insults too well. Also, so not keen on Matt's blatant sexism which crops up way too often. Ian, while not as loud, is a good addition, shame he skips the first two hours of the show. I enjoy their transparency of the production though. Nick calls out his team on being too obvious while giving him cues and points out all the hick ups and fails in production, and team calls Nick out on being to hyper or chatty or unmanageable. They leave the curtain open to just the right degree.

Really havent noticed Matts apparent sexism or apparent meaness, (I think it is all tongue in cheek) but I agree with all the rest of what you are saying here, sums it up very well!

Don't think a dance music slot would fit anyway and Danny is probably busy during the week so I doubt he could commit to that. I really like Adele but I think Pete Allison could be a future Drivetime presenter so I'd give him early breakfast and have Adele on weekend breakfast. I'd also expect Scott to still be on at 1 next year. And I couldn't see Nick & Chris working at all - I could never imagine them being friends and I think they have different senses of humour.

I don't know Chris was great with grimmy ages ago when Scott was at Eurovision! It was very funny, probably one of the best combinations with stark!

Really? What makes you think that? He seems to be doing OK right now. I think Scott will probably leave radio one when he's done 20 years ,which is october 2018 .He'll be the same age as Jo Whiley and Mark Radcliffe were when they left then ie 45. he might even decide to go for DLTs daytime record of 25 years and retire when hes 50! (although I concede that Ben Cooper probably won't let him stay that long)

The question is will he be moved to weekends for the last couple of years of his time at radio one like Jo Whiley was or would he want to go out on a high still doing weekdays? If he's asked to move to weekends and decides not to that could shorten his time at the station

Post-Moyles, what I personally think Ben Cooper should've done was given Scott and Chris the breakfast show, with Grimmy replacing them in the afternoons, before moving Nick up to breakfast when Scott's contract expires. This way, Scott could have gone out on a high with an excellent breakfast show, and Nick likely would not have faced the extreme backlash he experienced to begin with, as he will have had a chance to establish himself properly with a daytime audience.

This summary is spot-on. As it is now, I don't think Scott needs to move to breakfast right now since Nick's show is improving alongside the listening figures. To be honest, this thread just feels like an excuse to fantasise about a Greg James breakfast show, which in my opinion would be slick and competent, but very, very bland. Sometimes I feel like Greg doesn't deserve drivetime, let alone breakfast.

It's funny how Scott has done breakfast and the chart in the last few days at short notice.It's almost as if fate is trying to tell the bosses to let Scott do it permanently. I can understand why he never got breakfast because Moyles stayed so long,but why did he never get the chart show?

Is the Chart really something to aspire to though ? I wouldn't have thought so. Big Top 40 gets more listeners now and it's probably one of the easier shows to present TBF. Scott was on Drivetime til 2012. He's hardly going to go sacrifice that to go off and do the chart, is he ?
