Is This Scott's Last Christmas at Radio 1 ?

Just after they played the Perfect Christmas Single this afternoon, Chris said : "When all this is over, that's something I'll listen back and remember fondly". It just got me thinking. Scott's doing Christmas Breakfast and is on all that week- could that be something special as it's his last Christmas? His contract is rumoured to be up next summer as well. I hope I'm wrong but.....

Scott did Christmas last year all week as well but in his normal slot. Wouldn't read much into that

I think Scott signed a new three year contract when he started on afternoons, so he should be at Radio 1 till April 2015.

Yes he said last year he would probably be moving on when it ran out in three years, so we've got another Christmas of him yet.

Scott signed a 3 year contract in february 2012 , so he should have at least one more christmas at radio one, you'll be pleased to know :)

PS I have a feeling that Scott will reconsider his stated intention to leave at the end of his current contract,if he's offered another one. He seems to still be enjoying the show and is as popular as ever

Scott should be given another 3 years. I think he half announced leaving after his contract ends because he expects he'll have no choice in the matter anyways.

His show sounds younger than Fearne's and Huw's atm, who are both 10 years his junior.

Also, as much as I like Matt Edmondson, he and Chris don't gel that well imo. I listened to them together this week, and their dynamic is a bit forced/strained. I don't think they are natural counterparts to each other personality wise. They don't click/flow as well as Chris does with Scott, or Greg and Chris Smith, or Grimmy and Matt Fincham. On air chemistry just isn't there.

If Scott was to go then Chris would go to. They would not keep Chris around. Although Matt gets on really well with Ahmed off his show- especially in Celebrity Rhyme Time

I find Ahmed quite annoying actually. He is a producer who clearly dreams of being a presenter. He speaks too much on Matt's show in my opinion...

Matt and Chris seemed to work well together on friday. I can see them forming a permanent on air partnership if Scott ever moves on.

    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
