New Schedule soon?..

There's lots of talk on here about new Schedule being made from now for the new year. But what does everyone think and hope is going to change? Or will it all stay the same?

Can't guarantee there will be changes in january, but I think there will be some during 2014. Ben Cooper apparantely has a 2 year plan for the station which started when grimmy took over breakfast, so that ends next september. By then we should see his dream line up.Might be a nightmare f or the rest of us though!

Maybe that plan includes Greg James taking over breakfast .Some people think that's what Cooper wanted all along, and Grimmy was just meant to be a short term replacement for Moyles to absorb the inevitable loss of listeners

I think there will be slight schedule changes next year. I think Dev will replace Huw Stephens on weekend afternoons with Pete Allison replacing Dev on early breakfast. Pete's around the same age Greg and Scott were when they started doing that show and I think he'll be on weekday daytime by the time he's 28/29- he's good.

I don't know where Huw will go or if he is content to continue with the Wednesday night show but I don't think he adds anything to the weekend line-up. He seems like a lovely guy and I appreciate that his Wednesday night show gives new artists a chance to get exposure but his weekend show sounds tired and isn't particularly interesting.

If I had my way, I'd get rid of Dan & Phil and give him a two-hour show of live sessions like a jamming session where R1 artists and new artists come in, play some live music in a really stripped-back way and just have a fun chat with Huw. However, I know the direction R1 is going in and the teen girls who R1 so desperately want to listen would probably boycott the station if their beloved Dan & Phil left.

I think Greg deserves the breakfast show. I think he suits Drivetime better - more time to just mess around and talk rubbish with Chris (the best parts of the show)- but he is so much more warm and likeable than Nick IMO. Grimmy's style just doesn't do it for me and I find it all a bit too fake and strict. Heard the trailer for the breakfast show yesterday and he's now robbing Greg's feature (Accent or Faccent) under a different name. Greg's team are also far better- Greg, Chris, Simon Mundy, Laura and Pippa would be an amazing breakfast team. I'd listen to R1 Breakfast again if Greg was presenting and I do think that he will get a go in the next 2 or 3 years.

God, I'm exhausted after writing all that! :hahaha:

I agree with what you say about Huw.He would be far better suited to doing a new music show on sundays following the chart show. That would also set him up as Zanes successor when he decides to move on. I fear that would mean that Dan and Phil would be moved to weekend afternoons though .Or maybe if Dev takes over Huws slot Dan and Phil could take over early breakfast?

I don't think Dan and Phil would ever get moved onto a weekday show. They are a one off show, like surgery. It just would not work, they could do weekdays afternoons, or even be on Saturdays instead of Dance Anthems- which I hate, radio 2 all the way on a Sat afternoon

I would hope you're right (not keen on Dan and Phil, not my thing. Seem to me like another way to only target 13 year old girls), but when Ben Cooper answered some questions early this year in the Access all Areas month, he was asked which new signings he was most pleased with, and Ben said Dan and Phil, so you never know, maybe the afternoon slot on weekends or even weekdays beckons. Hopefully not though.

Sadly for Radio 1 Pete Allison has signed up to Absolute Radio where he is doing his own weekend overnight show starting tonight. Well done to Pete, but it's a shame Radio 1 have lost the chance to have him He's on 2am tonight if you want to give him a listen

you did indeed

I think we can safely say that there will be no schedule changes in january.if there were we'd have heard about them by now I'm sure!

PS as for Pete I assume he arranged the holiday cover before he signed his deal with Absolute.we probably won't hear him on Radio one after jan 3 though, sadly :(

He only works for Absolute at weekends, Christian O'Connell also presents on 5 live as well as the breakfast show no reason why Pete can't dip into Radio 1

If Ben Coopers plan was to put Grimmy on breakfast for 2 years, I completely understand why, they needed a scape goat after Moyles' very long breakfast run, whoever went in after him was going to be a fall guy, also Greg's show and presenting style has improved VASTLY over the last year alone, he's got much better at random chat as opposed to strict features and has also got good at a zoo format! I love the idea of Huw's session show as after Zane's performance this year- Jay Z, Kanye West and Eminem interviews there is no way he's leaving that slot anytime soon!!! I think getting rid of Gemma from early weekend breakfast and putting Dev there would be great, allow him to grow more as a presenter in a bigger slot! Also wouldn't mind Grimmy in the afternoons, really liked him in early 2012 when he did a lot of the covering for Scott and Greg, he was still fresh and had a good producer, sorry Matt but your much more suited to a strict format not a creative one!

hello

    • Less so with 5 Live. But with Nihal, Nicky Campbell and Mark Chapman get what you are saying.6 Music does have that with Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe
    • Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.
    • To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?
    • It’s Jamie’s dream of a lifetime to be a full time Radio 1 presenter apparently, but he can only do it 2 or 3 days a week.
    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
