FEARNE BACK SEP 2nd!

Nah, she was good maybe 10 years ago, now it's just a middle-aged woman constantly talking about her kids and putting wierd noises in the middle of the sentence. I like her as a person, she's really sweet, but she's Radio 2 material now.

I don't think most people who have kids realize that little tales about their kids are only of interest to them. It's such a boring topic for an outsider. I don't really mind the content of her links as much as the cadence of her voice. I need to actually concentrate to understand what she's saying. It's very singsong in quality and it often takes too much effort to follow. She's the only present Radio 1 dj I have this problem with.

That said, I like that she's a genuinely warm person. She's one of the few djs who listens to Radio 1 in their free time (I think Zane Lowe is the only other one I know of) and she remembers things other djs mentioned, which makes takeovers and things like Real or No Real more interesting. It's very sweet. Fearne is proper cold in compression (which is ok as well). The thing is, Fearne as a new Mum, will now probably spend more time talking about her child, than Sara ever did.

Radio 2 are about to announce some changes to their weekend line up ,with 2 of their longest serving presenters leaving,so there's a gap there that Sara could fill. Hopefully ,if she is offered a permanent show on radio 2 there will be an announcement before august 30 so that Sara can have a proper send off.She deserves that after 14 years at the station. It would be a shame if she went without saying goodbye :(

That whole 10-12-45 slot has been a complete void for me since Jo Whiley left anyway. At least Jo knew her music. It's cringeworthy at times hearing Fearne/Sara pretending they give a toss about whoever is performing in the Live Lounge.

Scott has just virtually confirmed that Sara will not be heard on Radio One again after this month. He just said t his is the last chance for her to do innuendo bingo,so unless he's planning to scrap the feature which I doubt, looks like august 30 is the end of Sara on radio 1 :(

Looking forward to the return of Fearne will make me feel young again

God, I should try that one too. R2, whilst often very good, makes me feel ancient. So many of their listeners garden, and I don't garden - I just like to sit in other people's gardens. I don't know if this counts, mind you.

Delta Machine, Depeche Mode - buy NOW !!

  • 2 weeks later...

There was the possibility that she might have had a show on weekends on radio 2.There was a 2 hour gap on sunday nights because David Jacobs and Russel Davies shows are ending but I doubt she'll fill it .We'd probably have heard something by today if she was getting a show on radio 2.I'm afraid it looks like she's surplus to requirements for now

Officially she hasn't left Radio 1 but the way all the DJs have made a fuss about her the last couple of days it kinda feels to me like she won't be heard very much o

f in the future.A week in november then a xmas special and that'll be it probably. If Ben Cooper had really wanted her to stay he could have easily have found a weekend slot for her. I wouldn't be surprised if the original plan was for her to go last christmas at the same time as Vernon Kay,but Fearne getting pregnant gave her a reprieve.

    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
