Does anyone think that Huw Stephens is used a bit too much as a stand in for DJs during the week?.According to Digiguide he's on drivetime again from monday june 10 to fri june 14 while Gregs on holiday.I would like to hear more of Matt Edmondson or Phil Taggart or even Dan and Phil occassionally.Huws ok but it just seems to me that he's used a bit too much and it's stopping other DJs having a go .Anyone agree?

I completely agree. I don't mind Huw, but I do think that other DJ's need to be given a chance. I do wonder whether Huw will move to weekday daytime at some point in the future, hence why he is always on cover duty? I'd like to see Matt Edmondson, Dev, Phil, Alice and maybe even someone new entirely. Pete Allison was really good when he covered for Dev before Easter. When Dev eventually gets promoted from the early breakfast slot, hopefully someone like Pete will replace him in it

The big reason why Dev does early breakfast and occasional weekend cover is due to his university commitments

But Dev has now finshed Uni. So how about this a idea, Greg takes over from Nick on the Breakfast show, Dev take over Drivetime and Peter Allison on early.

Saw that this morning that he had finished his degree. Either way there not going to take Grimmy off breakfast or Greg off drive anytime soon

I was going a long the line that if Nick keep slipping he may have to go, I hope Nick all the best but as the Rajar numbers show it is not Radio 1 doing bad it is reaching 40% of 15 to 24 year olds in one way or other. So my quote was based on if Nick dose not work out, maybe if his listeners numbers are still low in 9 months time Radio may have to do something.

Do you think that Dev will stay with Radio One or start a new career with his uni degree? If he's going to be stuck on earlys much longer I think he might just pack it in.I'm starting to doubt if he'll ever be offered anything better though because he hasn't even covered for any other DJs much lately. He used to sit in for Greg or Scott a lot but not for ages.

I thing he said on air that that his degree was in media. Dev also dose work within out areas of the BBC such as BBC learning so I guess the only one who knows what he want to do is Dev. Not every DJ will be a Chris Moyles and be a celebrity most DJ's do other work on the side. I would for one like to see more of Dev on Radio 1.

To be honest, I don't listen to Radio 1 as much anymore - but it's always nice to hear Huw whenever I turn (he is always on). Seeing as I'm a MASSIVE fangirl, I'd love to hear more of Dan and Phil, or Matt - or even more Scott. In fact, let's just get rid of every other DJ. ESPECIALLY JEMEELA JAMIL EHJBGFHBJHJAGJFNCFVKCLD.

P.S. I haven't heard Dev for years? Is he still on R1? I miss him :(

OMASM. Radio presenters are like fruit. Matt is my kumquat and Scott is blatantly my orange.

Dev's on from 4am-6.30am before Grimmy, I like listening to him in the morning but only from about 5, Ima not getting up at 4 especially!

Radio 1 tend to overdo it with 1 presenter on cover all the time, remember when it was always Greg?

I'd love to see Dan & Phil, Matt, Dev and Phil T. used more. Huw is just a touch too bland - I like him, but I tend to tune him out completely after a while when I have his show on in the background.

I wouldn't be surprised to see new faces cover daytime/weekend during Glastonbury

    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
