I assume Nick Grimshaw only has about a fortnight on the late show so the replacement must be announced soon. Phil Taggart is moving to London this week which might mean a rather boring shuffle- Taggart to weekend afternoons and bbcintroducing, Huw to 10-midnight. Obviously this is an educated guess- But surely we are going to find out soon?

Personally, Jameela Jamil might be a good pick. Inject some female talent beyond Annie Mac into the evening schedule.

They are taking there time with the announcement, Phil's announcement that he's moving to London just a radio 1 have a schedule reshuffle did seem a little too convient to be a coincedence.

I think evening is between Huw who's surely the favourite, Phil Taggart although I think it would be too soon for him, Edmondson has provided occasional cover for Grimmy but new music isn't really his thing and Moyles of course is the big question mark and is in with a chance.

They also need someone to replace Grimmy + Annie's joint show unless they opt for the same person for weekdays and sundays. If anybody but Moyles takes over there is another gap to plug in the schedule. There is also the added complication of who will cover Coxy for 6 months or so.

I imagine we will get one Schedule pre Fearne's mat leave + without Moyles and a new one to come into effect when Fearne goes on leave with Moyles. (Feb?) With Moyles covering daytime from the new year til Feb.

I predict: September: Huw on evenings, Phil Taggart on weekend Afternoons

Feburary: Phil to take Coxy's slot + Moyles on weekend Afternoons

Then depending on how well Phil does & what the average age is of the listeners he can scrap Phil, Vernon, Coxy or Moyles fairly easily.

We'll probably end up finding out around September 23rd

Schedule from September 24th:

mon-thu 22:00 Huw

weekends 13:00 Phil

sunday evenings 22:00 Tom Deacon (most likley) or Annie Mac

Schedule from early 2013's:

weekdays 10:00 Sara Cox

mon-thu 22:00 Huw

weekends 13:00 Phil

sundays 10:00 Moyles

sunday evenings 22:00 Tom Deacon (most likley) or Annie Mac

About Moyles, don't be silly, we'll never hear him again on weekdays. Anyway, Grimmy's replacement must be announced in a week time.

If Moyles stays at Radio 1 I think we will definitely hear him in some covering capacity or Cooper is a bigger fool than he's already showing himself to be. If we're right in 2013 Coxy & Huw will have weekday slots. So by sheer necessity I think Moyles will do some cover. Greg covering Grimmy seems likely. I can't see charisma free Danny Howard becoming full time drive cover. So there is basically Dev, Gemma, and Moyles who are the cover options. I don't think Dev has been on daytime since Cooper took over and Gemma hasn't either.

He doesn't seem against the idea he jokingly offered to cover Fearne's show.

I don't think so. Grimmy's cover will be Greg, they'll put a girl (Gemma or Jameela) in for Sara Cox, Huw in for Scott, Dev in for Greg (and Tom Deacon on early breakfast in for Dev), and Phil or Matt (why not) in for Huw.

I agree that Greg will cover Grimmy, a girl for Coxy probably Gemma, but I disagree with Greg + Scott. I can't see Dev on Drivetime he might cover Scott + why would Huw cover Scott if he had a weekday slot as he's not going to ever end up on daytime IMO so it would be pointless and needlessly disrupt the schedule. So I can see Moyles covering Greg and maybe Scott as well.

Well, Grimmy was covering Scott's show and now Greg's for a few years, so why not? Dev will be involved in new Radio 1's schedule when Scott will leave, you'll see it. Cover shows formats should be as similar as it can be. For example you can't put Greg in for Moyles on breakfast, because Moyles doing zoo format, while Greg's doing solo. Dev's format is similar to Greg's (you know, silly things, much music and stuff). Chris' format is the most similar to Scott's, but really, do you think that they'll put Moyles on weekdays after they get rid of him from breakfast?

btw, sorry for my bad English, quite difficult sentences there.

Don't see why not.. Sara Cox was booted off the breakfast show and still covers on weekdays.

Well, Sara's 37 years old (was 30 when she left breakfast show), Chris is now 38. Chris is being axed because of his age (wich Radio 1 thinks is very related to his listeners age). Do you really think that they'll put a guy, who "can't attract young listeners" on weekdays again? Cmon...

Grimmy was a DJ who was clearly going places and was going to move onto bigger things than the 10PM it was obvious and as a result they tested him out on daytime eventually on both Greg + Scott's shows. However in my opinion 10PM is the glass ceiling for Huw unless he gets a move to 7PM but I really cannot see him moving to daytime his show isn't personality led but music led so it would be a bad move. He sounds a little out of place on weekends already.

Moreover Huw is 31, out of the target audience and we know Cooper is obsessed with age (The demotions of Scott, Chris + the lack of Adam Catteral on the station are all proof of this) So I don't think Huw will ever see daytime so why change the schedule about for him to do cover?

If he covers Scott age is not that much of a problem as a large proportion of the target audience are students at School or Uni so cannot listen.

Also if Coxy is getting around 6 months on daytime I think Moyles being a year older doing a couple of weeks of cover here and there isn't unlikely...

Scott's 39 and still has a weekday slot so don't see how Moyles should be at a disadvantage because of his age.

Lol, I think you may have missed the point of these reshuffles. DJs age has everything to do with why people are being moved around, in order to hopefully bring the average listenership down. Dare I say it, I thnk Scott is soon to be under scrutiny.

Ok, let's have a look to changes at Radio 1 schedule from 2009: in 2009 Jo Whiley (then 44 years old) got axed from R1 weekdays and weekends afternoons, Edith Bowman (35 in 2009 and 38 years old now) got also axed from R1 weekdays and weekends. Fearne (27 then) and Greg (23 then) replaced them. Few months ago, Scott (39) got axed from drivetime, he was replaced with Greg (26 now). Now, Moyles (38) is being replaced with 28 years old Grimshaw. And you're saying DJ's are being axed not because of their age? If they would have a replacement for Scott, he would be axed from R1 weekdays daytime. Dev is in the uni at the moment, so IMO they're just waiting for him and then he'll be put in for Scott. Just sayin'

About Moyles covering Mills, it technically could happen, but I don't think it will happen as Ben Cooper is obsessed with DJ's age.

Btw, it's a miracle that they put Sara in for Fearne, but i'm sure that Gemma or Jameela (other girls of R1) will be very busy in early 2013's, so they had no chance.

AGE OF DJ DOES NOT EQUAL AGE OF AUDIENCE. Radio 1 are more concerned with age of audience. Westwood, in his 50s, has the youngest average audience out of Radio 1 or 1xtra. Scott will stay about (if he wants to) because younger people like his show (of course age will be higher due to timeslot).

Personally I can't stand Huw, and can't see him hanging around for much longer on day time. Phil clearly has a strong with radio 1, which they will encourage.

I can see that Radio 1 might effectively switch foci, with music being the primary focus during the day, and entertainment from 1900-2400. (possibly 1600-2400). Moyles and Matt would probably feature daily in the line up...

I said earlier, that Radio 1 thinks DJ age is very related to his listeners age. That's not true, but I'm just being realistic. Old DJ's on R1 are being axed for a few years, that's obvious.

Adam Catterall's tweeted he's going to be back on the radio soon. Could it be Radio 1?

That's interesting, maybe after September 24th they will need more cover DJ's?

I really hope so,

Where else could he be going he left his local radio breakfast show so you'd guess it's somewhere big. Absolute or XFM are the big commercial ones which jump out at me..

I genuinely think that his replacement will be Matt Edmondson, he's being doing several fill-ins and is quite a popular choice as well as having the bonus of being a T4 presenter, I also personally quite like him.

As for Huw, Not a fan of his, he is definitely suited to zane or his own show, he is a music specialist not a daytime person!

I don't mind Matt but I don't think that Ben Cooper is that keen on him, since he's taken over he's been sidelined in favour of Tom Deacon & Phil Taggart

Adam has just tweeted that his new show can be heard across the country so it's a national radio station

I don't think that's true, matt has been doing a few fill-ins for grimy lately so could mean a more permanent show, I would like deacon, i enjoyed his show, however it might be inconvenient for him as he does comedy.

Is Adam any good?

Well, Matt did a few shows covering in for Grimmy, Huw done 3 weeks of them.

Is Adam any good?

Yes, he is. Anyway, I think we'll know the news about Adam this week.

Has he done something wrong? Or do you just mean you think we'll hear this week who takes over the 10pm slot?

Capes :)

    • Phil Williams in for OJ Borg tonight and Thursday.
    • Saturday 13th December - Headie One sits in for Kenny Allstar on Radio1's Rap Show
    • As it stands, he's on until Christmas Eve. First time in a few years. It's in Wycombe, where Vernon performed last year (or the year before). Vernon also did his show and panto for a week. A long day but it's doable now he's on in the morning Mark Goodier is doing the breakfast show from Boxing Day up to Friday 2nd January, then Sara's on for the week starting 5th January, so Scott will be off for some of his panto run.
    • Is Scott still on breakfast wonder how he is doing both
    • Mollie no longer on with Nat and Vicky Thursday afternoon, so it’s just those two covering Weds and Thus.
    • Saturday 3rd January as well. Rylan's on today, although it's pre recorded so his last live show of the year was last week.
    • “It rattled my pot.” “She nailed her line.” “His eyes are saying, get this off me now.” Scott opens with the familiar December traditions — underwhelming Christmas trees, loose reindeer, and even a Lancashire earthquake that “rattled my pot” when he woke up, leaving him feeling “a little bit sick… like being on a Big Dipper.” He immediately turns to a question for listeners: “Do you put your dog in a Christmas jumper?” And thus begins a morning-long saga about festive pets. Tina brings nativity pride and festive mum energy Tina beams as she recounts Athena’s very first nativity. “She nailed her line. She looked incredible, and she sang her little heart out… it was the proudest moment of my life.” Of course, Scott presses on whether she cried: “Yes, of course I cried… I took about 2 million photos.” She then reenacts Athena’s impressive line, which she now knows by heart: “Our tale begins in a land far away where sandals were cool and donkeys were the main form of transport.” Tina also reveals she bribed Athena with: “A chocolate ice cream with Oreos on top… and a chocolate milk.” Her motherly glow continues through the hour — the perfect counterbalance to Scott’s dog-jumper mania. Scott’s dog jumper confession becomes a whole mood Scott has bought Teddy an Argyle Christmas jumper… and then a matching jumper for himself. The photo he shows Tina gets this reaction: “His eyes are saying, get this off me now.” Scott admits: “He hates it because he’s a dog.” Listeners pile in with their own festive dog attire. One text describes a Staffie who becomes an elf and a Labrador who becomes Santa. Another: “Do they enjoy it though? I don’t know.” Scott wonders aloud. His Instagram story hosts the photographic evidence. Tunis cake moment becomes full 80s nostalgia After discussing retro Christmas foods on Elder vs. Millennial, Scott brings in a freshly made Tunis Cake, thanks to his friend Linda. “The first order since 1985.” He describes the decorations lovingly: “Pipe icing and what looks like a fruit bowl — that’s marzipan pears, a marzipan banana, and an orange.” Everyone gathers round to sniff the cake. Pink custard appears. Emilio has never heard of it (“we are old,” Scott says). The easiest quiz dissolves into newborn-related chaos Simon from County Durham plays while caring for one-week-old baby Jim, declared: “Your youngest fan.” During one question, baby Jim makes a long groaning noise, and Simon hesitates disastrously. Scott explains: “Even I know they’re not going to let that go.” The quiz “speaks” to Scott, who announces: “We’d love you to stay on… but we’re out.” Simon gets six and delivers a line that touches listeners and Scott: “You are the friend that you didn’t know you had.” Messages flood in saying that Simon “made me cry.” Shirley Ballas dazzles, opens up, and coaches listeners This morning’s centrepiece is a full, warm, sparkling appearance from Dame Shirley Ballas, who embraces the whole room immediately. Shirley recounts choking on a fishbone In a story both dramatic and funny: “I choked on a fishbone… my feet were dangling!” Her hair stylist Jane had just learned the Heimlich the week before and saved her. Shirley admits she thought she “was a goner.” Strictly instant dance memories The Instant Dance challenge last weekend was, in her words: “Chaos backstage… wigs flying everywhere… Claudia came on in a hat she found in the fancy dress.” She loved it, calling it: “Magnificent… fabulous… I hope they bring it back next year.” She also praises Balvinder, who survived multiple dance-offs: “She is my kind of girl — resilient… great under pressure.” On her new book “Best Foot Forward” Shirley explains she wrote a second autobiography because she didn’t have the courage to discuss certain topics in 2019. She frames each section as a step, like a dance: “Life is full of pivots… and everyone must learn to rise and fall.” She reflects on menopause, breakups, reinvention, marriage, motherhood, and the lessons that continue into her 60s. Her “Shirley’s Shimmers” — advice at the end of each step — include gems like: “If you’re heartbroken… remember they lost you, not the other way around.” Interacting with listener Amy (the Shirley impersonator) Amy performs her Shirley impression live: “I think you are absolutely fantastic, Shirley.” Shirley becomes emotional: “You bring the brightest part to my life during the week.” Coaching Daniel for his workplace Strictly Daniel asks how to stop looking miserable while dancing. Shirley teaches him her technique: “Press your little red button on your shoulder… lights, camera, action.” She tells him to be “flirty,” “musical,” and enjoy his partner Norris. Lloyd Griffith gets even more spotlight Lloyd arrives full of energy and dry humour, immediately admitting: “It’s mad what £6,000 can get for you” — referencing his hair transplant. On return to paradise (the Death in Paradise universe) He explains the expanding “Paraverse”: “Same recipe as Death in Paradise but different ingredients.” He plays Colin, “a little fat cop from Lincolnshire,” his words, not ours. He spent four months filming in Australia — tough life — joking: “It’s awful… the weather’s so nice.” On singing and his choirs Lloyd reveals he is a trained classical singer, having studied music and sung in choirs. He’s doing candlelit Christmas concerts in Grimsby and London, complete with SATB arrangements. Shirley perks up instantly and says she wants to come. On Strictly dreams When Scott suggests Lloyd should do Strictly, Shirley immediately agrees: “We need to get you on the show, sir.” Lloyd jokes that he’s prepped physically: “I’ve had laser hair removal on my shoulders and back.” Scott can’t stop laughing. The big vocal moment Finally, Lloyd sings The Holly and the Ivy live. His voice surprises the whole studio. Shirley delivers the coveted verdict: “It’s a ten from me.” Ellie Brennan is genuinely moved. • I suppose they want the regularity and familiarity of Sara and only want to concede if they have to. That said if Mark's doing two weeks he might as well do a third while he's at it surely...
    • Interesting that they've swapped Mark onto drive for that week. Would've made a lot more sense keeping him on breakfast and Sara hosting her own show. I suppose there's some logic there somewhere 🤷
