i remember it launching. i thought it would act as a filter for radio 1, but they've continued to play the same type of crap on both stations for a decade.

Exactly. Why have a dedicated channel for Xtra RnB Xtra Hip Hop Xtra Westwood Xtra Chavs and Xtra Yodelling, and then have it all on radio one too....

I meant in terms of the music. But if they can't afford to run both stations, close 1xtra. Pretty simple.

1Xtra was ever threatened with closure, you must be thinking of the BBC Asian Network.
