Nick Grimshaw brings more music and his irreverent sense of humour to weekday mornings as the brand new host of BBC Radio 1's Breakfast Show.

For three and a half hours every day, expect a compelling blend of Nick's infectious personality along with an exciting mix of music, the best in big name guests from the worlds of music and entertainment, as well as a range of interactive features. Nick will continue to champion new music with his Big Thing (record of the week).

Among the big named guests set to join Nick in the show's first week are singer Cheryl Cole and Hollywood actress Emma Watson.

Audience interaction and participation through social media will also form a big part, with Radio 1 listeners playing an active role in everything the show does. More content than ever before will also be available online for listeners to share.

Presenter/ Nick Grimshaw, Producer/Matt Fincham

Grimmy's show sounds good although I imagine he will have to refine his record of the week selections!

I don't consider Cheryl a big guest either although I've always had a soft spot for Emma Watson and Grimmy is a very good interviewer.

The audience interaction and participation has the potential to be a bit naff though. I suppose it depends how he does it.

I hope he does a Moyles style chat at the start of the show. Presumably it won't be half an hour but I don't think it sounds right when a breakfast show begins with two records like all the other shows on the station.

His team also sounds quite good, from reading various news pieces it sounds like they will be talking but not to the level on Moyles show. I imagine it will be like his show now or Coxy's which include the team much more than most but it isn't a zoo format which Cooper is so opposed to. He has Fincham, Ian (from Greg's show and previously Coxy's show when he was quite funny) and Fiona (who I don't know).

Wow, and I get accused of negativity... note that those are TWO names AMONG many guests set... not that guests have ever truly made a show, not even in Moyles' time.

I can already see from your posts that

a: You're not willing to give Nick a proper chance

and/or

b: You're going to instantly compare him to Moyles at his prime right off the bat rather than give ANY time to bed in and find his feet.

These are facts.

To be fair Moyles has had plenty of crap guests in the past. So it doesn't look as if things'll change in that respect once he leaves.

As for me I'll be staying well away from the breakfast show from the 24th onwards. It just feels like a massive insult to Moyles' legacy that they're allowing someone so bland and formulaic to take over a slot that he's injected so much originality and individuality into over the past 8 years. I give Grimshaw a year at the very most.

So save the last dance

Even Fincham thinks he'll only last 6 months. But give him time. He may Blossom. May.

No fucker seems willing to give him time... Yeah there's definitely NO WAY Grimmy can adapt his style or anything, evolve and change like many other DJs have (even Moyles changed quite a lot when he moved from Afternoons to Breakfast, and may change again with whatever time slot he might now go to), but this change does NOT happen overnight, or quickly... Coxy was given 3 years of plummeting ratings before being fired, Grimmy is being dismissed by audiences before he's even done a show.

Sick of this kind of attitude where nobody will give the guy a chance, but then it's to be expected from some of you...

I find it strange that a presenter taking over the breakfast show to shift the focus to new music, has Cheryl as a guest. Also, Mills has confirmed he will be the cover for Grimmy (another odd choice)

and I think the advert is pretty much what everyone hoped the breakfast show wouldn't be, but feared it would be.

I still think Radio 1 will cycle through breakfast show djs quickly for 5 years... hence the "breakfast show with..." title, in order to lose the association with Moyles.

Grimmy may change his style, but any change will only to sound more like Moyles, which will probably be in the wrong direction for the audience, who will view him as a cheaper (literally) alternative.

Its essientially a concert so unsurprising the police have been called.

Grimmy is very popular with an audience who, to be frank, dont post on thos board. Search #teamgrimmy on twitter to see tge reaction of R1s target audience. Its very very popular.

BTW Sara Cox gained listeners between 2000 and 2003 and had more listeners then Zoe Ball, MnL. She lost about 200,000 over 9 months. She did outstay her welcome but was good in her day. It must be frustrating for her to be known a failure because of the last year. Something Moyles wont have since he left on a high.

I think he has an inflated fan base because of his friendship with one direction. I doubt any of them would listen to one of his 10-12 shows.

I remember talking to some girls in my year about him once. One was like "OMG I love Nick Grimshaw so much, he's such a babe" but when I asked her if she listen to his show she didnt even know he was on radio!

And I won't sit down,

And I won't shut up,

But most of all I will not grow up <3

I find it strange that a presenter taking over the breakfast show to shift the focus to new music, has Cheryl as a guest.

Nick won't focus on new music on the breakfast show like he does in his current slot. After 7pm on Radio 1 is 'specialist' music. 4am-7pm is playlist. The music Nick will play on breakfast will be like what he plays when he was covered for Scott and Greg.

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
