With Olym picks come MANY RULES...

Just hearing on 5Live about the many largely arbitrary and STUPID rules for the Olympics and those attending,

things such as what FLAGS (flags of non-competing countries) you take AND TSHIRTS you wear to venues (nothing with a competitor to a sponsor's logo on it) and you can ONLY eat and drink sponsors product within the Olympic Park (packed lunches reportedly to be checked?), there's protecting the brand and there's 'protecting the brand', I for one think such moves HURT these brands in my eyes and I will be making a point to actively AVOID them now, personally.

Also use of the Rings logo and the words or numbers 2012 is apparently prohibited for shops etc.

Hmm funny, didn't think we were actually IN 1984, close maybe but not THERE. Bloody ridiculous and draconian and for an event that makes all this hassle really NOT worth it.

Now I can sort of understand them not wanting competitors logos etc on them but I happen to know of a guy who had unbeliebably horrible dietry requirements as a kid, no idea if he still has them, but he had to have everything made at home specifically for him so where to people like that stand? they can't have things made by the sponsors so its not really fair. Taste and desency should be a factor in clothing but nothing more than that.

If this was anything other than the Olympics people would be pissing themselves laughing at the awesome stupidity of the rules.

Ticketholders attending the Olympics should expect long queues to get money out at venues after 27 cash machines at sites such as Wembley are replaced by eight Visa ATMs.

Visa confirmed that it was replacing the existing cash machines at various Olympic sites with machines running on its own system as part of its exclusivity arrangement as a sponsor. The move means people with Mastercard credit or debit cards will not be able to use the ATMs to withdraw money.

ATMs will be switched off at the Excel Centre, Earl's Court, North Greenwich Arena, Wembley Arena, Wembley Stadium, Wimbledon, Old Trafford, St James' Park and the City of Coventry Stadium. A number of the existing machines charge users a fee to withdraw money. The replacement Visa ones will be free to use.

Retailers at the Olympic sites will be accepting contactless payments, and much has been made of the 2012 Games being a "cashless Olympics".

Ron Delnevo, the managing director of Bank Machine, the largest operator of free and fee-charging ATMS, condemned the move. He said it would leave the Olympics "cash-starved by design".

"The vast majority of people attending the Games, from over 200 countries, have no interest in becoming guinea pigs in product launches by sponsors," he said. "They are gathering to celebrate sporting excellence and should be allowed to do so, unhindered by the commercial manoeuvring of sponsors."

The Payments Council, which oversees all payment services in the UK, said it could not comment on Visa's move. "It really is a matter for Locog [the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games]. It's up to them what they do with regard to sponsors."

Disabling the ATMs will make it harder for visitors to find somewhere to withdraw cash, but Visa said it expected many to bring money with them.

"Debit cards have overtaken cash as the most popular way to pay for goods in the UK," a Visa spokeswoman said. "We expect people to use a mixture of cash and cards to pay once they are inside the Games' venues."

Almost 97% of debit cards in use in the UK are Visa-branded. There are likely to be fewer overseas visitors holding a Visa card, but no official figures are available.

Visa would not comment on how much revenue it expected to generate from ATM exclusivity.

Stupid idea! Think of the massive queues.

    • He's alive and doing Calgon promotion! Those five weeks off have to pay somehow 😂
    • Annie did the Friday night dance show as well so I think that made her more prominent. She's an excellent presenter at new music and I think Jack is the perfect successor for this show. Clara was always in the 'good' category for me. She's been around since I started listening to R1 so feels a bit weird she's leaving. Think it's only Greg, Matt, Danny Howard and Pete Tong left now!
    • See I don’t agree…I think the three way dynamic is not really working. Vick & Katie are really great together and I enjoy Vick & Jamie together. It’s something between Katie & Jamie that’s not gelling for me. However it’s early days and they are still much better than some other combos. Plus Matt & Jamie were radio comedy gold for me so I don’t think Jamie’s the problem. Just maybe didn’t need to be a three.
    • HAppy birthday Scott mills I hope u like the photo sent to you and I hope u recived my massive birthday CARD as I sent it to BBC RADIO 2 broadcasting house on special recorded delivery for you as let me if u have got it as I wrote a very large letter to you inside the card and sent a photo inside the card as well your biggest fan Yolanda xxxx LOVE 💖 YOU MILLIONS SCOTT  MILLS
    • It's rather sad that Pink News is even running this - they should know better.
    • I was invested in the show when it was Vick and Jordan / Katie - now I don't pay attention and might leave the station when Jordan starts on Capital.  What I do hear is a mix of formulaic and awful.   It's strange how one person leaving a station can affect your outlook on the whole station.
    • Happy birthday Scott! Hurry up and get back on the airwaves 😊
    • Think it just depends on his commitments but agree he's a good listen.
    • I liked her last show, but I don’t feel it had the same impact as Annie’s show. Also, I feel her tenure was quite short to be honest, so don’t understand what the sentiments are all about. I mean Annie did this show for 6 years and Zane Lowe for 12, compared to Clara’s 3 years. Looking forward to Jack taking over from her - I think he has a lot of influence from Zane Lowe and we need that energy in 6pm slot.
    • I wonder if R1 will do a big event type thing on the week that Jordan starts on Capital? It will minimise the number of people turning over I’d guess
    • Hard to believe that all the new shows from September 2021 are now pretty much over, aside from RMC on the live lounge show, and even then, they seemed to change things up after 18 months or so. It feels like yesterday since 6th September 2021 when all those new shows began!
    • I've never listened to Rylan before this week but have found him to be excellent.  He should be Scott's main cover going forwards
    • Always thought Arielle would get this show. She's the most natural presenter to Annie Mac. Maybe it was something to do with her Dj career and residencies in Ibiza
    • Sad that she said she felt different to others at Radio 1 having come from 1Xtra. Lovely how supportive Greg was through her career.
    • To be honest she never filled Annie’s shoes in my eyes. It’s been a disappointing tenure having not been able to grow her show. It’s a stark contrast from her mid morning show where I preferred her to RMC.
