Firstly, forget about 'the older'. As I said Radio one doesn't care. If I wrote a strongly worded email to the controller of BBC2 asking them to play more dub-step and less 70's music they would laugh when they read it.

Secondly, of course some of the younger listeners will be annoyed. Chris Moyles is a firm favourite with a lot of people. However change happens, and Chris has been doing the show for over 8 years and it is time for change. The same reaction happened when Greg got afternoon from Edith, and again when he took over drive-time from Scott. The breakfast show WILL lose listeners, it's certain, but Nick Grimshaw is a popular choice with Radio 1's target audience. Fact.

Some people will just have to come to terms with the fact that Radio 1 is no longer for them. It's not designed to keep adjusting to the listener as they grow older.

Agree whole heartedly with this. Very well put.

I am listening to a show where people are asking if moyles not being paid and having a fit about it may have angered management. one good thing.... This should see the demise of cm.net. every cloud....

It won't mean the 'demise' of Cmnet at all. What drugs have you been taking that made you assume that when he's not even leaving Radio1, just the actual breakfast slot. Also when he DOES fully leave, that place will still be going, like it or not.

O no, it won't. this site had the sense to have a bbc r1 section, so even if mills goes, it could just evolve. cm.net focus specifically on moyles' radio show. without him, they only have archives left.

You were banned from chrismoyles.net weren't you?

Banned from everywhere! harris banned me when i gave him a big speech about his site being littered with dickheads. I still think that. archives are excellent though.

You couldn't be more wrong. The only dickhead is a user of unofficialmills.co.uk

Pretty sure they focussed well on his TV shows when he's had them too? Like this site, they focus on the person, not their affiliations. This move, combined with a possible move to weekends (I say possible because after today's curveballs, we simply don't know what's speculation right now) might leave him free to do more TV work as I understand he HAS expressed interest in.

As an aside to that point, he even appeared on the BBC's fine F1 coverage with Aled this weekend... taking Aled's virginity (in terms of going to races...). I was wishing they would do a red button commentary like they did for the football, could have livened up the one dull race of the year so far.

Loved Moyles in the afternoon, but when he moved to breakfast, the show just became something more. Dom (a huge part of the success), Dave, Aled, Carrie (and then later Tina) have become a part of every day life, more than just a radio show. They are there every morning. They are all consistantly funny. There are running jokes, and features that just always seem to work. No more Dominic The Donkey? No more Roy? No more Mcfly Day? No more "ALED. Coming up today on Radio 1..." so much stuff we will miss. The jingles, the songs, the parodies. The team. If they do get a different show/timeslot, I hope the whole team stick together. They are all essential. I'm going to make the most of the next two months. It's weird I was just thinking last week when they said Moyles was going to be Herod, how would that work with the breakfast show, but never thought it would be like this.

Good luck to the team, and thanks for all the excellent radio over the years

This is a nice idea in theory, and their alternative football coverage did work pretty well as it was fun but I honestly can't see Ecclestone being too pleased at the prospect of alternative commentary where the commentators were inclined to have a bit of fun rather than a serious/sensible approach. It would be good if that happened, but sadly I dont think it ever will.

Oh, was Ecclestone objection the reason they don't have the rather fun CBBC Commentary any more too? I agree it's extremely unlikely though. Maybe if Moyles ends up on 5Live (he likes shows with less music.. and Richard Bacon has Comedy Dave on sometimes and often lets timings of news etc slide a little, it could work for Moyles), he could do their commentary sometime, still a VERY slim chance.

Just a thought.... Well, actually the thoughts of others on twitter..... Would management really move someone as big as moyles to weekends, and leave scott where he is?! or could we be seeing more changes shortly? mills moved (again), with chris and team in the one to four slot? is this too mad?

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
