Wish it was Greg James leaving... the talentless scumbag...

Predictable comment of the day goes to... WE GET THAT YOU HATE GREG FFS, we don't need to hear about it every bloody post.

Christ. Get a life. You could hear it on the radio even if you were out.

and when this gets a perfectly reasonable reply:

This isn't about you.

Err Viv, you MADE it about someone else with your needless insults.

Back on topic:

I don't think any petition will make a damn bit of difference.

Moyles has had a brilliant record-breaking run regardless. I can't see Grimmy achieving anything like the following, but I suppose it's better than some of the other utter failures of DJs (even ones that have screwed up Breakfast before) that were rumoured to be in line for taking over Moyles, however I will agree with an earlier point that this DOES kinda make sense and there are SOME similarities to Moyles.

I will be sad to see Moyles go, also Moyles still has a few years of contract left so where does HE go from here?

Dunno what to think of this move, I am a pretty big fan of both Chris and Nick. Nick's (current) style suits night time radio so well it will be interesting to see if he can make the transition to breakfast.

Radio 1 are in a pretty rubbish situation as the controller /has/ to make these, for the most part, hugely unpopular changes as quite simply he has to do as he is told (to reduce the age of the average listener).

Regarding the petition on chrismoyle.net, what a gigantic waste of time. Bit of a generalisation, but for the post part I'm betting that a lot of the complainers (I could even use an example from the users posting in this thread) will be out-with Radio-1's target age range and therefore have no cause to complain about any changes. The content is simply not supposed to be catering towards you.

That. Right there. Is where the BBC Trust made all the mistakes. Coz we are still here, and guess what... we are complaining. The listening figures are not working out for R1 - they are going down, and the BBC Trust still fails to get the message/point.

Actually have to say I wish they had gone right outside the station, and tried out some new "blood". Sorry to say this. Grimmy ain't the worst, but he ain't the best choice either.

In fact, FUCK. **

** Still, if it is him or Chris Evans.... YUP, it's Grimmy !!!! Will have to get used to it.

Well... all I can say is that I'm incredibly disappointed. And that talentless idiot Grimshaw of all people being chosen to replace him. How fucking marvellous. The day he leaves will be the day Radio 1 dies.

So save the last dance

I don't think you grasp the fact that if you are over 29, Radio 1 controllers (at the present moment due to the BBC Trust's guidelines) couldn't give a toss if you complain. They are not catering for you, they don't care if you don't like the new changes. Its as simple as that.

I actually do... thing is, I have a heard a LARGE NUMBER of considerably younger listeners ALSO complain about the output by the BBC.... that, in itself, tells me the BBC Trust have got it all wrong. As, indeed, they have for some time.

As Helen says (and I don't often agree with her!!), we could well see it as the day the station dies. Poor decisions by the Trust, the Controller has to implement them, and young, very young and older are not happy. What does that tell ya?

Firstly, forget about 'the older'. As I said Radio one doesn't care. If I wrote a strongly worded email to the controller of BBC2 asking them to play more dub-step and less 70's music they would laugh when they read it.

Secondly, of course some of the younger listeners will be annoyed. Chris Moyles is a firm favourite with a lot of people. However change happens, and Chris has been doing the show for over 8 years and it is time for change. The same reaction happened when Greg got afternoon from Edith, and again when he took over drive-time from Scott. The breakfast show WILL lose listeners, it's certain, but Nick Grimshaw is a popular choice with Radio 1's target audience. Fact.

Some people will just have to come to terms with the fact that Radio 1 is no longer for them. It's not designed to keep adjusting to the listener as they grow older.

it isn't ... young and old LOVE him. Love his rants, love his style///

As for the show not being designed for the listener as they get older, I think that may be subjective. If you like your new music, you're gonna continue to look to R1 to see what is out there - what's good, what the DJs think. No?

BTW, moyles has already been replaced on the R1 homepage www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/

i think radio 1 should give him a good proper send off. love or hate him he's been one of the best servants the station will ever have, i would love to hear some archive footage from the old afternoon shows and early breakfast etc. but im not holding my breath, this is a station who seem to be ashamed of their history afterall.

on the grid.

Change happens. Did you want Moyles to go on forever? If you were radio 1's controller (god help us) what would you have done? Keeping in mind the constant pressure to reduce the average listeners age, etc. I'd be interested to know.

Sure, if you like new music Radio 1 is a decent place to hear it. But that doesn't give anyone the right to demand other DJ's.

I'd also like the hear the great masterplan (not sarcasm, or at least not nearly as much as it could have been).

There are also much better outlets to hear it than Radio1, to be fair.

You can keep your inane personal insults away. as to what i would do..... As a controller, i would keep moyles for at least another two years... The way it was supposed to be, challenge the bbc trust about their attitude towards r1, which is causing listener figures to drop. this is where the real problem lies. get the age range back UP, review the listening figures, then, if moyles really aint cutting it, bring in fresh blood from outside r1. and with that, it is time for my yummy pineapple sundae and a bit o mills.

    • Less so with 5 Live. But with Nihal, Nicky Campbell and Mark Chapman get what you are saying.6 Music does have that with Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe
    • Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.
    • To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?
    • It’s Jamie’s dream of a lifetime to be a full time Radio 1 presenter apparently, but he can only do it 2 or 3 days a week.
    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
