Olympics !!

I will undoubtedly watch something, but I won't watch purely events where Team GB do well etc. When's the bobsledding? and more to the point WHERE in London? Down the side of the Shard? Over the O2-Excel CableCar?

Someone will miss the gag there, I guarantee it.

Actually, just realised, Kurt Angle didn't qualify this time* to try and repeat his 1996 Gold Medal in Heavyweight division of Freestyle Wrestling, so that takes away one point of interest for that event :P

* It's weird, he had a legit injury that stopped him competing in the trials according to reports I've read, but has been appearing and putting on great matches in Professional Wrestling since that happened, even with a bandaged up knee*

I'm afraid I'm not the slightest bit interested in The Olympics. The politicians claim they will bring wealth to London. Hmm. To whom precisely? I feel for the friends and family I have in London, most of whom will actually lose work, partly because they're so worried about being able to physically get to it. I'm also not confident London's infrastructure is anywhere near ready for what's going to hit it. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Agree with Steph. Might watch some horsey stuff and gymnastics. Perhaps a little diving. Daresay women's volleyball will probably be on the agenda too

Whatever happens, it's given us a GREAT TV Show... called Twenty Twelve, brilliant 'behind the scenes' show in the style of The Office with David Tennant narrating, Hugh Bonneville and Jessica Hynes (nee Stephenson) off of Spaced/Shaun Of The Dead. :)

Some brilliant topical comedy and is probably a bit more close to the truth than intended in terms of the kind of people behind running the games and the other things that happen (like the Trafalgar Square countdown clock going wrong etc).

I think in terms of transport walking or cycling will be the only things worth bothering with. Can't imagine the roads are going to cope, especially with those ridiculous VIP lanes they're going to have (not sure whether they are still going ahead with those). As to public transport, well, probably the same.

Well, anti-aircraft missiles, and the residents have been told.

favourite quote "It's a massive inconvenience" err how exactly, you probably won't even SEE them most of the time unless there's the unlikely event of them actually being launched... and even then there might be a bit of noise.

"Having a 24/7 armed forces and police presence will improve your local security and will not make you a target for terrorists." The kind of thing they SHOULD have done for the riots... this sounds so much like a scene from 28 Weeks Later really, that had chopper patrols and snipers on rooftops in Canary Wharf/The Docklands area.

As my mum said, at least they won't get robbed with a shitload of missiles on their roofs...

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
