I heard on Newsbeat this morning that there is a flare approaching planet Earth. May affect power and the National Grid.

Is this really likely to happen? Should we be concerned today?? I am going to the kids flumes this afternoon (again), and if there is no power, I won't get on them

Oh by the way, the last time this happened (not long ago actually) do you know what effects it had? The Northern Lights could be seen much further south, like in the north of the Midlands... and not much else.

That said, to see the WORST kind of damage this kind of event has had historically, look up The Carrington Event of 1859. Granted, they didn't have all the electronics we have today back then...

it might effect sky digital, the astra satellite that puts that across is over north africa. so it depends if that's facing the sun at the time i guess.
