I do wonder who'll do the Chart Show if Greg is still ill on Sunday.. Scott's away to 'The Hotel' and Reggie's busy.

Last time that happened it was Dev, but I think he is off as Deacon is covering Huw and covering for Dev next week..

Wow, what a kick in the nuts for SM. I only listen to the radio when at home in my garage, so time of day is no issue to me. However, I download every single SM daily podcast and listen to them religiously when I'm working - I work abroad and it helps keep me sane when on long trips driving round Europe, I hope all the features are still there.

I'm 6 months behind with the podcasts, so this hasn't been announced yet, I heard on Chris Moyles show this morning. I'm still unsure what "Go On Pigs" is about too!

I like Greg, but it certainly looks very disrespectful to Scott, his show (podcast) is the only one I bother with.

Anyhow, I'll keep doing 40 of those & there will also always be a place in my heart; for a horse for one bin. Who can forget CJ Cans off of stupid street?

So, in summary.... [bBC]If it's not broke, break it[/bBC].

40 of those

Apologies for the lateness of this reply.. Upon hearing the new's that SM was swapping with GJ I was very dissapointed as with the exception of SM and Moyles (and possibly Vernon). Every DJ on Radio is bland, boring and talks nonsense (in particular Cox's). I have never enjoyed GJ and just don't get it.

At 37, I get I don't fit into the Radio 1 demographic. Which I find extremly odd as I don't fit into the Radio 2 bracket either. IMO, I thought Radio 1 extra was more geared towards the younger generation (15-25)?

Now here's the facts. Radio 2 has the bigger audiance because there is a larger audience of 50+ listening to the radio than any other demographic. Going by this logic, is there not a bigger audience of 30-50 than 15-30? Assuming so, why would you turn this away by aiming for a younger demographic? Also, the 4-7 show is called the drive time show for a reason. i.e the majority of listerners are driving home from work. The biggest proportion of people driving at the time are not aged 15-30!!

So with SM you had an established DJ who people actually like, just as you have with Moyles. Go on any forums and you will see where the majority of luv sits. I have yet to see a high proportion of followers or forums say how good the likes of Cotton, GJ, Cox are (in fact the opposite).

I didn't want to do the usual knee jerk reaction and not give GJ a chance, so I have listened to see if he can deliver. Unfortunatly, he hasn't and his style is the same nonsense as it was before - which no one liked then and no one likes now.

I'm sure Radio 1 will not miss 1x 37 year old listerner, however I do not think I am alone and I hope the figures reflect this and show them what a big mistake it was. How the management team thought this was a good idea is totally beyond me as not a single part makes sense!

I guess the next question is, how long does Moyles have before Radio 1 decide he is too old?? If you lose him, then I am guessing Radio 1 goes back to days of Mark Lard, Zoe Ball and Cox's. And just in case you don't remember that, their listening figures plummted so low, that Radio 1 was close to being shut down! He aint called the saviour for nothing!!

Have to agree with every word. it is just ignorance on behalf of mr ben cooper. think i said before that this is a time period which will go down in radio one history (for the worst reasons).. i cannot imagine how cooper simply thinks he is gonna get rid of listeners over a certain age. if you like new music, you're gonna stick around. and, like you say, a lot of radio two's output IS too old.

Delta Machine, Depeche Mode - buy NOW !!

Been listening to Radio 1 a lot over study leave and the half-term, and have noticed how crap the playlist is at the moment (There are quite a few good songs on the PL, just not played enough, and there are far better songs at the moment - Grimmy has been playing some great songs (him and Annie on Sunday is hilarious).

In terms of presenters, Chris is great (as per), Fearne is even more vapid than I remember, Scott has been vastly improved (compared to 4-7),and Greg is just unsuitable for Radio 1 - his 1-4 show was good and a bit mental, but the new show has nothing going for it, sadly.

I just saw this thread and read the title as 'Scott Mills to Wife Swap with Greg James'. That would be amazing. Greg could spend a week with Bradley, Scott's bf, and once Greg gets a girlfriend who doesn't immediately dump him for Skrillex (WTF???), Scott can spend the week with her.

OMASM. Radio presenters are like fruit. Matt is my kumquat and Scott is blatantly my orange.

Sarcastic? Really?

"What am I doing at 9?" "What are you doing at 9 Scott?!" "I'm listening to x, and what about 10?" "I'm listening to x, and do you know what else I'm doing at 9?" "no" "Watching Britain Unizziped, I love the BBC!!"

    • Less so with 5 Live. But with Nihal, Nicky Campbell and Mark Chapman get what you are saying.6 Music does have that with Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe
    • Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.
    • To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?
    • It’s Jamie’s dream of a lifetime to be a full time Radio 1 presenter apparently, but he can only do it 2 or 3 days a week.
    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
