TV or the Internet?

what do you spend more time doing, watching tv or going online?

i was talking about this with a friend the other day, i realise that i probably spend more time on my computer than i do watching tv. i've never been into soaps or reality tv at all, my parents aren't either so i've never bothered myself. to be honest apart from football i might watch something like police interceptors, american dad, family guy etc. but apart from that i don't really have any dedication to watching anything, i probably spend more time going around youtube.

on the grid.

To be honest, on a regular school day, I'd probably spend maybe six or seven hours on the Internet and between half an hour to three hours watching TV. That's a bit excessive, right? But to be honest, most of the time I spend on the Internet is actually watching TV. I spend most of my time on YouTube, whether it's watching random YouTubers or (this is pretty sad) soap storylines (there are hundreds. Spent half-term watching Kish from the American soap OLTL and LuRe from the American soap As The World Turns) or films. Also, half the stuff I watch I'd rather not watch in front of anyone (Skins, Playing It Straight, Happy Endings, etc.), so I watch them either on my laptop or iPad. In all honesty though, the best way to watch TV is on an actual TV…

(This makes me sound incredibly sad, but I promise you, I do have a social life… Sort of.)

OMASM. Radio presenters are like fruit. Matt is my kumquat and Scott is blatantly my orange.

I can never get to the TV because my little brothers are always playing fifa or something... So I usually spend most time on the internet really, but most of it is watching TV shows that no one else in my family wants to watch or I want to watch on me tod eg. House, Hustle, New Girl, Misfits, Skins etc... And there's more to do on the internet like finding people on Youtube...

Again, I do have a life, but school work is too boring sometimes.

I have a tv in the house/flat but its not used for watching live tv. Firstly me and my flatmate never actually got round to making a decision regarding the tv license so we dont have 1, and secondly we're out a hell of a lot so it doesn't really make much sense to have it if we're not gonna use it.

We've got the internet so anything we wanna watch can be done through that on the iplayer etc and connect the laptops to the tv and watch it that way so its all good. Between us we have an unbelievable amount of dvds/things on hard drive so we're probably not missing out on much anyway.

I love it. But not so much the new series, I'm all about 1st generation. ;)

I hear that. 2nd Gen I'm partial to due to a certain pair of characters... (Why yes they DO happen to be twins :P), this one, couldn't care much less, haven't bothered with much of this series, though at least the androgynous one changed image, even if it turned her into sorta a slut (going on the 1 ep I've seen).

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
