This week began with the Birthday Show and a variety of surprise messages for Mills, including one from Britney which he very genuinely seemed to love. Scott shares his birthday today with Lady Gaga!!

A lot of effort / organisation clearly went into the birthday show, but I still found it a little 'flat'.. Didn't enjoy the guest, Matthew, off of 'Glee' (tedious), AND he used the 'S' WORD. OMG. OMG.

My highlight this morning was former Big Weekend stuff, and actual Madonna being played out, in all her glory and supreme brilliance - 10/10 for that.

Didn't like the boring 'Census' talk, which Scott seems bizarrely stressed out about?!? So much so, he is even bringing the form into Radio 1 tomorrow.......... why doesn't he just sit down, give himself a target time of completion, and bang it into the post, without involving a whole load of listeners and colleagues, and half of Planet Earth.

Overall, so far this week 4.5/ 10. - mondays definitely don't work that well, do they ...

hmm frequently when covering Breakfast TOTDS or Becky has time off - you think on Breakfast (the prime time slot) you'd want to be at your strongest or is this a resignation that they won't get breakfast anyway so why bother? PS having met Becky with Matt Fincham she's lovely :)

No, I think he just stresses about everything. I gave myself 1 hour to complete the form - no longer - and just got it done!!

The only bit I failed to 'get' was the fact the Government would be reading, and I have made a short note about "government pointlessness" next to one of the boxes.

The Big Weekend stuff was making my head fizz this morning. Must have been good to have been presenting to a big bunch of school kids, but from a listener point of view, very irritating.

And, as Jono says, the very worst kept secret on Planet Earth. It's been all over twitter for days and days. Get ready for weeks of BW stuff, even when it's finished. #r1bw - well pleased about Lady Gaga though * screams *

0/10 for this morning.

Think Scott said before that TOTDS isn't good with mornings

It's VERY interesting how many characters there are on Scott's show now. The addition of Chris and Dan is making the show sound more like a proper breakfast show and not something we've witnessed before. There's also TOTDS, Beccy and Posh Radio 4 Lady. Simon and Tulip are also quite active on breakfast too.

I find it very telling about what direction they're trying to take things in. No complaints mind you.

Catching up on the podcasts at the moment.

Still not enjoying this particular week that much - 4/10 :-/ Did enjoy Gaga being played out this morning!!

I think the thought of the BW from now until May may mean I have to have a temporary break with local radio.

Don't do it! I tried local radio for drivetime didn't end well, couldn't stand the adverts for more than couple of minutes did classic fm and radio 4, but most evenings just read book or podcasts instead!

Don't have to keep listening though if does get too much as you check your number "We will email you to say if you have been lucky or not between Tuesday 12th April and Thursday 14th April - please check your spam or junk mail folders if you do not hear from us by this time. From midday on Thursday 14th April you will also be able to check online if you have kept your personal registration number."

Not getting too much yet, although I am finding the ability to get "Carlisle" on the air more than tedious. "Lambing Live" comes from Cumbria, so we have to hear about that - a feature suitable far more for local radio I would say.

and the Cotton drew something that looked like the Carlisle football team symbol, so we "conveniently" had to hear about that.

    • Less so with 5 Live. But with Nihal, Nicky Campbell and Mark Chapman get what you are saying.6 Music does have that with Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe
    • Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.
    • To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?
    • It’s Jamie’s dream of a lifetime to be a full time Radio 1 presenter apparently, but he can only do it 2 or 3 days a week.
    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
