News of the World: Greg James will get breakfast

BBC bosses have picked GREG JAMES to replace CHRIS MOYLES as Radio 1 breakfast host.

They want the 25-year-old boyfriend of pop star ELLIE GOULDING to take over - but not until Chris has served out another contract.

My news will devastate long-serving afternoon DJ SCOTT MILLS, 36, who has been chasing Moyles' job for years.

But don't worry, Moyles fans, Beeb chiefs are expected to keep the top-rating 37-year-old at the flagship station until next year, to allow Greg to build his following while he fronts the early afternoon slot.

Last night a source at the BBC revealed: "Greg is the future of Radio 1. He's in his 20s, cool and a star on the rise.

"Unfortunately for Scott, he's just too old to get the breakfast gig now because the station is meant to be targeting teenagers and people under 24.

"Greg is the obvious choice for the job, but we have to be sure that he is ready.

"He is most definitely the heir apparent and it means we will soon have to have a discussion with Chris about how long he will be willing to stay on for.

"We are going to be careful not to force Chris out before Greg is ready.

"We're well aware Chris is a huge star, but we have to look to the future because someone who's nearly 40 can't really be hosting a show aimed at teenagers."

However, the big-mouthed ratings-winner may be snapped up by one of the BBC's commercial rivals.

Greg won Best Male DJ at the 2005 Student Radio Awards and got the chance to do a one-off show on Radio 1.

After that, he was quickly signed to cover for JK AND JOEL on the station and for SARA COX on her weekend show.

After a stint hosting the early breakfast show, he was picked to replace EDITH BOWMAN in the important 1pm to 4pm weekday slot.

I'm a big fan of Chris and Greg, and know they'll both be successful for years to come.

I'm not convinced there's much of a story in this. It seems purely speculative.

i cannot see it, firstly the breakfast show needs to be today a team of people & it's a very hard thing to form as many have found out to their cost, the shows you need to do to gain the experience to do the breakfast show are usually the 'drive time' shows like what Scott does & most of the time these have teams.

i do tune into Gregs show from time to time & nothing has changed from when he first started, only last week he played the stupid 'news reader' theme thing he does & that song where the band changed the lyrics to his name, come on i know R1 are trying to get younger listeners, but what age group does this sort of thing appeal to, five year olds ? maybe if he gets the Breakfast Show, he will bring back that childish 'flash flash' thing he used to do smiley_baby.gif

i'm sorry but i don't rate Greg one bit, he simply isn't in the same class as Moyles or Mills, i would even go so far as to say that Fearne is better than Greg as a DJ, it's like he is still living the dream & it hasn't sunk in that he is actually a DJ on R1.

it would be nice if Moyles dropped R1 in the shit & left & then we can see just how "amazing" Greg really is, the future of R1 year right

just how long in to Greg's stint on the Breakfast show will it be before the press turn on him like they did with Moyles & every other DJ at the station.

I dont think there would be anything wrong with Greg on breakfast, but he will definitly need a team if it is to work, the shows with teams generally are much better to listen to I think, with the exception of Vernon who goes it alone but I still find very good although admittedly he does rely on texts and calls with listeners. I have a feeling this might be another pile of horse sh*t from the papers though, I really don't think Chris Moyles is anywhere near having to leave or move on.

On a bit of a side note, I'd like to think that if Scott Mills is to move onto breakfast that his mate will get to be the sidekick full time. After Chappers left I think the show was alright, but on the whole wasn't as entertaining to listen to. Scott was his usual self, but the balance between their senses of humour was missing, and I think it has returned now that Scott and Becky have someone else in the studio.

Why not? Not the reader's fault that such sources often turn out to be dodgy people, if they aren't made up anyways... Only reason I can see to keep a source anonymous is in criminal cases to be honest... though it could be argued this would be criminal if it happened :P

Also given that they so often have complete disregard for the private life of some celebrities, they don't seem to have much of a problem printing stuff that someone wants kept quiet when it suits them to...

This is hardly news. Chris Moyles will be leaving Radio One some point in the future, unbelievable really. Doesn't take a genius to work out R1 are training up Greg James, seems to put himself/be put forward for everything is enthusiastic but bland enough not to get into the controvesy that Moyles does. Would rather someone like Vernon Kay got it but won't because of his age.

Well newspapers are essentially whistleblowers. Celebrity culture aside, an important function of journalists is to hold public bodies to account. If there's corruption within the NHS for instance, it might take an employee leaking confidential documents to uncover it. That's in the public interest, but the only way that's going to happen is if the source stays secret, because clearly they'd lose their job if it was discovered they were the source.

It's an absolutely vital component of journalism. Reporters protecting their sources is a matter of the highest professional integrity.

Its not really news this- we all know Moyles will either go this or next year (or we presume the time might be about right). And we all know that Greg is destined for big things at the station. We all know that Scott, although he is easily the most natural successor, wont get breakfast permanently (maybe a short 8-10 months stint to fill a gap while they jiggle the schedule) as he is not the long term future.

I do think we all forget Grimmy though.

And finally, we have to remember that most presenters at the station have been there for a long time. When Moyles goes I think it will spark a year of changes with some other names following while the station tries to recreate its identity - its a normal process. Moyles, Scott, Zane, Pete Tong, Bowman.

Theres been some names who we all class as newcomers still who realistically have been on the fringes for a while waiting for this shake up - Grimmy, Huw, Reggie, Dev, Annie Mac, Kissy Sell Out, Tom Deacon & Matt Edmondson. These are the future names with Kissy & Annie Mac fronting specialist, Matt, Greg, Annie, Reggie, Grimmy on Daytime and Tom Huw & Dev weekends!

In that case, News of the World and various other rags only care about their 'integrity' in cases where it suits them then...

In the case of corruption I agree it's important as with criminal or otherwise not-strictly-legal matters (as I said above), but when it comes to speculation about something as unimportant as a DJ lineup?

Newspapers can't reveal their sources though. Occasionally they'll write that and there will actually be a source. Of course it also gives them free reign to completely make stuff up as well, but that's the way things have to be.

you cannot believe anything written in a newspaper, they are full of shit, especially the ones owned by News Corp & the Rothschild's ie the Daily Mail group.

the other day in the Sun they were moaning that the BBC spent £30,000 on flowers for their offices & that this was license payers money yet the entertainment bloke wants to blow Greg by the sounds of it.

you want real news, then find alternative news websites ones that are not affiliated by the mainstream media, if you want to watch REAL news, then you should watch RT (Russia Today) Al Jazeera, Press TV for example, you should also take notice of what Wikileaks put's out, even if he is a supposed C.eye.A shill, (allegedly).

Interesting, I think Grimmy covering Scott and Reggie covering Greg could be a sign of things to come. I hope that Grimmy teams up with Annie Mac if he does move to daytime.

I hope they don't rush Greg onto breakfast they seemed to rush him to afternoons, Dev is developing well on Early Breakfast but if he was rushed onto daytime it would be bad. However they seemed to have stop Greg covering for Scott, I thought Drive would be Greg's next obvious destination so maybe they will rush him to breakfast. :(

Huw deserves more than his new weekend slot, it's a good start though, I'd love him on mornings in the live lounge or at 10 to replace Grimmy.

I wouldn't like to see Scott leave anytime soon if he does leave drive (not for 50 yrs at least!!) I think he ought to go on Weekends like Coxy is at the moment or a morning or afternoon slot. Also wouldn't like to see Zane leave but Kissy sell out is brilliant.

I'd like to add another name to the hat, Andy George + Jaymo are fantastic, I hope that being with Moyles will give them some exposure as they are fantastic and they had a good rapport with Chris whose discussed them on his own show. I rate them well over both Tom andd Matt and think they deserve Early/Weekend Breakfast.

A conundrum is Dev, I really like him but he seems to polarise opinion and they've seem to have given up letting him cover daytime. Weekends may be best for him. Oh and Vernon has to do one Asap
