...that's according to twitter; anyone got a press release?

Fresh adventures ahoy! Am off to Radio 2 to do an evening show of new music of quality and distinction. Adieu Radio 1. It's been fantastic.

...good to see Jo found a high-profile place to continue her career. Also, Huw Stephens will be great on daytime radio, I'm looking forward to hearing him.

Personally, I'm a bit sad to see Jo leave. I was listening to her midmorning show as often as possible and I still miss her. Can't get used to Fearne...

Very sad by this move but I never got a proper opportunity to listen to Jo in full since her move to weekends. Let's be honest though, most of us expected this to happen before now.

Huw Stephens will be a worthy replacement for Jo Whiley and I'm glad we're going to hear more of his voice!

I just hope Jo goes on to even bigger things at BBC Radio 2 so by the time I've grown out of Radio 1 I'll be able to hear her voice on daytime again...!

i think i've already outgrown radio 1, and i'm 22. never the very best dj on the station, but she was there when i used to enjoy listening the most. goodbye jo, maybe the fact that you and mark radcliffe are now on radio 2 might tempt me to listen sooner rather than later. only if you cut out playing 'golden oldies' and get rid of steve 'love the show' wright.

on the grid.

See despite Radcliffe and now Whiley going to Radio 2, I went in the direction of tuning to 5Live and 6Music, rather than following the usual route. I do think both these DJs play such a wide variety of music and have such great knowledge that they'd be more suited to 6Music, still at least Lard ended up there.

I was sort of addicted to Jo Whiley's weekday show; was great listening, and really got me into a good mood every day. Fearne doesn't work for me, so as soon as Lauren Laverne is back on 6music, I'm off. Moyles is unbeatable, and Scott does great entertainment (a bit silly, though, at the moment; what's that "we're annoying Matt Fincham" stuff all about?). But I really don't care about the things Fearne talks about. I feel like I'm out of her target audience. Being 23...

You realise Fearne is like 29, right? Admittedly she rarely sounds like it, and I couldn't actually believe that's how old she was when I found out.

Haha...yeah, I know that, but seriously, when I'm listening to her show I feel like she's talking to the 16 year olds. Not to me, at least. And 16 was some years ago, as far as I am concerned...

Of course its sad to see a daytime great leave Radio 1. In her time Jo Whiley was fantastic, an outstanding radio broadcaster. However, she deserves better than being on at just the weekends and for me now doesn't sound right for Radio 1. The time is right and this is a great move for her. Enjoy it Jo!

Indeed, it is the right time for her to move and she wasn't right for weekends. Like Mark and Lard, DLT, Tony Blackburn, John Peel etc, she will be regarded as a legend of Radio1.

EDIT: Just read something of sort-of related interest, it seems Radcliffe is now moving to 6Music with Stuart Maconie. Could that be to make room for the Whiley? It's a right move even if that's not the reason.

We've seen it coming for a long time!

Just that right chance has come along for her now!

Good Luck Jo and Well Done Huw - the obvious choice i would say as long as features like Huw's Hospital Hour gets put in Greg's Radio Graveyard !

Jo is moving into the Radcliffe and Maconie timeslot, so it definitely seems to be the reason.

I loved Jo's show on daytime, and since moving to weekends it seems to have gone from strenth to strength. I think she makes effortlessly brilliant radio- her features are always interesting and worth listening to, and the show fits more perfectly into the weekend than I ever imagined when the changes were first announced. I'm really going to miss her- I thought she brought a certain class to Radio 1 which is kinda missing in other shows. I don't feel the need the need to listen to dumbed-down radio just because I'm 20-something, and I think it's shame Andy Parfitt has once again chosen age over quality. I know I certainly find Jo a hell of a lot more relevant than anything Fearne Cotton's ever come up.

So farewell Jo, you'll be sorely missed.

Oh, and Huw Stephens? He comes across as being a nice person, but his shows are pretty dull. Sara Cox would have been the obvious choice. Don't know why they continue to hold her back.

Really happy for Jo and it's great to see her getting a weekday slot again, even if it does clash with Zane, Jam and Riley.

I think Huw is great but, probably rather selfishly of me, I'd rather he be promoted more as a specialist DJ than a daytime presenter.

Also Good luck to Matt in his new slot.

Really like Huw's show, think it was definitely time for a 'breath of fresh air'.

Jo was a really good presenter though, best of luck for Radio 2, and to be honest, I don't exactly think the story has come of much of a shock!

this could be good news, on the same station as marc riley. the chance of them working together again has increased! then i always think mark was too cool, and still sounded too young for radio 2. even though he's got to be in his very early 50's by now.

I'm not happy at this at all. Yet another great presenter is lost to a station that is continually dumbing down, and causing people to look in other directions... and who suffers?

US, the listeners. We're all doomed, the whole bloody lot of us. :-(

One wonders why there wasn't a smoother transition to Radio 2 though. She could have swapped with Huw Stephens and taken the Wednesday night 9pm to 10pm show while she built up her time at Radio 2. She could have done a Steve Lamacq then and bowed out with minimal disruption.

It's a shame really she couldn't have gone to the specialist line-up again and done what John Peel did, and Annie Nightingale still does. It's essentially what she'll be doing at Radio 2. I guess family changes things though.

Well, Jo did Claudia Winkleman's show on several occasions, and she's been doing "In Concert" for a while (don't remember how long, but I do remember reading a post somewhere saying that Jo did the show way more often then the other presenter).

If, at some point, Ken Bruce leaves Radio 2, i'd quite like Jo to take over. Jo was perfect on that time of the day. That would definitely restore my old listening habit :)
